Revenge of the Rejected
Angela sat in her lavish sitting room, a room that had witnessed her family's rise and now its fall. The warm sunlight filtered through the elegant curtains, casting a warm glow over her face. Grief clung to her like a heavy shroud as she thought over the loss of the family company, a legacy handed down through generations. "I can't believe he did this to us," Angela muttered to herself. Her eyes were fixed on a family portrait hanging on the wall, a painful reminder of happier times. “How could Charles do this to me?” She shook her head in anger. “And then, he befriended that woman. He replaced me with her. Imagine!” Vera had been a constant thorn in Angela's skin since she saw her at Charles’ place. She felt like Charles preferred Vera to her. Her pain increased when he humiliated her in front of Vera. Just as Angela's despair threatened to consume her, the TV suddenly came to life with breaking news. The sight that met her eyes sent shockwaves through her. MR CHARLES LINCOLN IS RUNNING FOR THE CITY’S GOVERNORSHIP POSITION. The headline read and Angela wiped her eyes to be sure she was reading it quite well. Charles? Her ex-husband? Running for governor? “This is impossible,” she said, jumping to her feet. But as the reporter continued, she realized it was nothing but the truth. Charles was indeed running for governor. "Grandma!," Angela exclaimed, immediately calling Mrs Adams to watch the news. “You won’t believe what I saw!” She said, still calling out to her. "Angela, what's going on?" Mrs. Adams' voice was filled with concern as she dashed into the sitting room. “This should better be important or—” "Listen to the news right now," Angela urged. “You won’t believe what they are saying about Charles.” “Charles? I thought we agreed to never talk about that bastard again in this house. What could possibly interest me about him?” “Just listen, Grandma. I promise it’s worth it.” Mrs. Adams reluctantly obeyed and gasped, witnessing the reporter’s unexpected revelation. "I can't believe this. He's running for City Governor?" Angela was as shocked as Mrs. Adams, her mind racing with a whirlwind of emotions. She couldn't fathom that the man who had torn their family apart was now seeking a political career. Mrs. Adams, always quick to react, didn't mince her words. "Angela, it's time we seek revenge for what he did. We can't let him succeed in this election. He took away the most precious we had. Now, it’s our turn to ruin him. We must sabotage his career.” Angela pondered the words for a moment, her thoughts a raging sea of anger and confusion. "But how do we do it? How can we sabotage his plans? You know he’s now a powerful man.” Mrs. Adams's tone was resolute. "We need to befriend his opponent, Mr. George. If we can find a way to help Mr. George win, it would be a significant blow to Charles's campaign." Angela nodded, her anger transforming into a great resolve. "That's a brilliant idea. Maybe I can even get George to help us financially in exchange for information about Charles's secrets." Mrs. Adams smiled at Angela's determination. "Exactly. Pay a visit to George in his office and befriend him. Learn everything you can about his campaign and how we can assist him." With that, Angela knew what she had to do. She rose from her seat, a fire in her eyes that contrasted with her previous despair. "I'll do it, Grandma. It's time to unveil the truth about Charles and ensure he doesn't become the City Governor. I will show everyone that he’s not the good man they think he is.” “Good.” Mrs Adam added. “And make sure that Mr. George doesn’t turn you down. Make him an offer he can't refuse. He is a politician so he will definitely like to get dirt on Charles.” “Yes, Grandma.” With a nod, Angela dashed into her room to get dressed. ************************ When Angela arrived at George’s office, she met a large number of people waiting for him. “Good day. Please, I’ll like to see Mr. George.” She said to his secretary who was attending to the visitors. “You have to join the waiting list. As you can see, there are a lot of people here to see him as well. Please have your seat.” Despite her attempt, Angela couldn’t convince the secretary to let her see George. After one hour of waiting, Angela stood outside Mr. George's office, fuming with frustration. She had been waiting for what felt like an eternity, and the secretary had shown no signs of allowing her entry. Her patience, worn thin, finally snapped. Stepping closer to the secretary's desk, Angela couldn't suppress her irritation any longer. "Excuse me," she began politely, though there was an edge to her voice. "I've been waiting for quite a while now. Is Mr. George available to see me?" The secretary, her expression hardened, barely glanced up from her work. "Mr. George is currently with important clients, and I can't disturb him. Please be patient."Angela's frustration bubbled over. She couldn't stand being dismissed so casually. "I understand, but I've been waiting for an awfully long time. Could you at least tell Mr. George that I'm here? I have something important to discuss with him." The secretary's tone turned icy. "Listen, if you're here for a job, Mr. George isn't hiring right now. You can wait or leave. It's your choice." Angela felt her cheeks flush with anger. The secretary's rudeness was uncalled for, and she couldn't help but retort, "I'm not here for a job. I'm here to discuss something else with Mr. George, and I expect to be treated with respect." “Look, your pretty face will not help you to see Mr. George. If you think that you’ll be treated any differently because of your looks, then you’re wrong. I have work to do, don’t bother me.” The secretary responded with no emotions. “I can see you’re just jealous of my looks. Maybe you feel Mr. George will replace you with me once he sees me. But don’t bother, I’m not after your job.” Before the confrontation could escalate further, a tall, imposing figure emerged from the inner office, surprising them both. It was Mr. George, who had finished his meeting and was headed out. However, as soon as he caught sight of Angela, he was immediately rendered speechless by her beauty and presence. Angela took a deep breath, smiling widely as she met George's gaze. "Mr. George, I've been trying to see you for a while.” She flipped her hair and inched closer to him. “Your secretary here has been rather impolite. She refused to let me see you for over an hour now." She quipped. George's face hardened as he heard those words. He turned to his secretary, his voice stern. "Is that true? Have you been impolite to this lady?" “She was trying to see you despite informing her you were having a meeting. She came quite late and didn’t want to wait for her turn.” “Is that why you will be disrespectful to a beautiful lady like her? Do you want me to replace me with someone else?” The secretary, flustered and now worried about her job, stammered out an apology to both Angela and George. "I... I'm sorry. It won't happen again." George was not pleased with his secretary's behavior. "This is unacceptable. If you ever treat anyone like this again, you will no longer be employed here. Now, let us not keep our guest waiting any longer." With an apologetic look from the secretary, George stepped aside, holding the door open for Angela. "I'm truly sorry about this. Please, come in." Angela offered a gracious smile and entered George's office, her anger disappearing as quickly as it had flared. She couldn't help but feel a bit flattered by George's attitude, and as he closed the door behind them, his eyes seemed to linger on her a moment longer than necessary. “He looks like he’s already attracted to me.” She thought to herself. “This will be easier than I expected.” Once inside, Angela took a moment to glance around his office. George's office was spacious and well-appointed, reflecting his success in the political arena. She settled into a comfortable chair, her tone now more composed as she began to explain her presence. "Thank you for seeing me, Mr. George. I apologize for the unexpected interruption." George smiled, taking a seat across from her. "No need to apologize. My secretary's behavior was inexcusable, and I'm glad I had the chance to rectify it. Now, what can I do for you?" Angela leaned forward, her eyes meeting his with a hint of determination. "I'm here because I have some information that could be of great interest to you, Mr. George. Information about your opponent, Charles, and his plans for the upcoming election." George's interest was piqued, and he leaned in closer. "Tell me everything, Angela. I'm all ears."
