Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 32

“Let go of me!” Charles warned Mark who was holding on to him desperately. “Charles, we can come to an understanding. I will do anything you want. Please for the sake of Angela, forgive me.” Charles chuckled, his eyes burning with rage as he forcefully kicked Mark’s hands away from his leg. "No amount of begging will save you now, Mark. You tried to kill me, so now, I will take away everything that’s yours. I warned you to steer clear from me but you decided to challenge me. I don’t care about Angela or anyone in your family.” Mark's eyes pleaded, his voice trembling with desperation as he attempted to create a scene. "You can't do this, Charles! You can't just take everything from me!" But Charles remained resolute. "You should have thought about that before you attempted to destroy me," he retorted. “It’s all your fault!” Mark thundered. “You spoiled my family’s chances to fund our company. You ruined all our plans because of your selfish actions. You are a very wicked man, Charles.” Suddenly, people began to know the commotion going on stage. Many of them brought out their phones and began to film the interaction between Charles and Mark. “Your family humiliated me for years. You deserve everything I’ve done to you. And trust me, it’s not over yet. If you try to come after me again, I will definitely send you to prison.” Mark immediately rushed toward Charles and grabbed him by the collar. “I will kill you!!” He shouted as he struggled with Charles. Mark's attempt to cause a scene was stopped when Charles’s bodyguards came to the rescue. They immediately got hold of Mark and subdued him. “Don’t touch me! Bastards!” Mark yelled as the guards bundled him. “Tell everyone who you are, Charles. You are an illegitimate son, a failure.” Charles smiled faintly but his eyes were burning with fury. “Once I take over your company, your family will be forced to work for me. I promise to pay you the least, I want you to suffer like I did. And then, you’ll figure out who is a failure between us.” “Don’t you dare touch my son!” Mrs. Adam came up to the stage. She was glaring at Charles with undiluted anger. “You are such an ungrateful bastard! Without us, you wouldn’t have ever gotten to this level.” She spat. “We trained you to be hardworking so you could stop living like a beggar. Without us, no one would have ever known who you are. Your father kicked you out and we took you in when no one wanted you. Is this how you repay us?” Charles scoffed. “You didn’t help me in any way. You allowed me to marry your daughter because you thought I was the son of a rich man. You used me for three years and treated me like trash. Mark will suffer the consequences of his actions and there’s nothing you can do. Adams Corporation is mine.” “You will never—” Charles signaled to his bodyguards before she could finish her statement. “Take her away. I don’t want to see them here.” Immediately, the guards rounded Mark and Mrs. Adam up. They began to drag them out of the hall, everyone watching with amusement. “The Adams have finally learned their place today. Next time, they would never challenge someone like Charles.” A man said as Mrs. Adam was dragged away from the hall. As the attention returned back to Charles, a man from the crowd suddenly stood up. “I want to purchase that robot prototype. How much will you sell it to me?” “Me too!” “I will pay any amount for it!” The room was suddenly filled with people begging to buy Charles' prototype. Charles was astonished because he didn’t consider selling the prototype to anyone. But he realized it could be a great opportunity if he did. After all, people were desperate to lay their hands on the robot. He quickly beckoned to Vera amidst the noise and she came up to him. “What do you think I should do? Should I sell the robot?” “Considering it cost us over 40 million dollars to build, I think you should put it up for auction. The highest bidder can pay for it.” “Hmmm. Great idea.” Charles said. “Thank you very much. I always trust you for the best advice. Would you like to lead the auction for me?” “Sure.” She said, beaming. He handed her the microphone and she replaced him on stage. Immediately she came up, the hall fell silent, everyone paying attention to the beautiful lady on stage. “Ladies and gentlemen, it has come to our attention that many of you desire to purchase the robot prototype. For that reason, a bid will be organized. The highest bidder will pay and take home this prize invention.” She exhaled, then continued. “The bid will begin immediately and we are starting with $10 million dollars.” Before she could finish, a hand shot up in the air. “$10 million dollars.” “$12 million dollars!” “$20 million dollars!” $25 million dollars!” Charles was shocked at the extent people were willing to go to purchase his prototype. He didn't know if people were interested in it because of the design or because it was invented by him. “$30 million dollars!” $35 million dollars!” The first bidder who showed serious interest threw his hands in the air again. “$40 million dollars.” “Wow.” Charles said within himself. “That is exactly how much it cost me to build this robot. If someone bids above that, I will be making so much profit.” He immediately began to consider starting a robot manufacturing company in the city. “$45 million dollars!” Another man added. The first man persisted. “$50 million dollars!” Vera waited for another bidder but it seemed like no one was able to go over the $50 million dollars price mark. “$50 million dollars going once! Going twice! And sold!” Her voice echoed in the large hall and an applause broke out quickly.
