Revenge of the Rejected
Charles stepped on the throttle and zoomed off, trying to cut through and ensure no one was going to take up space on the road which he could take advantage of. “If I’m able to drive faster than this, I should get to the nearest hospital very soon.” He thought to himself and then sped up. Fortunately, there was no traffic congestion this time, and the hospital he planned to go to was just right around the next main road. There was just ten minutes left and apart from getting to the hospital, there would obviously be some little process one would have to go through before making payment. Soon, I got to the hospital, and then walked in immediately, heading to the reception. “Good day. Please I’ll like to make payment for any patient who is need of medical attention or anyone who hasn’t been able to make payment.” Charles said to the receptionist. “Alright, sir. We’ll go through the records now. Please kindly have your seat while I make my research.” “No. I need to make an urgent payment right now. I’ve got to leave as soon as possible.” “Uhm… Alright, sir. I’ll make a quick check.” Charles checked his watch and noticed he only had about four minutes left. He got so nervous and tensed to an extent that he felt this was going to be the day he wouldn’t meet up with the system’s requirement. He couldn’t make them see how urgent it is more than what he had done, because it would only give room for suspicion and would result in delay in what he had to do immediately. “Oh, no. Goodness.” He muttered under his breath. ~ Charles walked out of the hospital building with a bright smile on his face. He had managed to make payment before the time elapsed, and even when he did that, he credited the receptionist for being extra fast, especially not knowing why he needed things to be done so fast. He got into his car, and made a victorious gesture with his hand, then started the engine. As he started the engine, a system notification popped up right before his eyes. CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED A TASK. THEREFORE, YOU’VE GOTTEN 5 POINTS.Charles was overjoyed. At least five points was still better than three points. He was glad that he was able to pull it off. Now, he just needed 15 more points to be able to acquire the skill he needed. He began to drive off, heading home when a call came in from Andrew and he answered it happily. “hey Andrew.” He said with a smile on his face. “Judging from your tone, it seems you were able to pull it off.” Andrew uttered, feeling happy for him as well. “Exactly! And do you know what made the victory sweeter? It was a last-minute thing. Thanks to the fast receptionist, I was able to get it done, and also went to extend my greetings to the patient I paid for, just so as not to seem too suspicious.” Charles narrated to Andrew who was more than happy to hear all he had to say about getting the task done. “Wow. That’s sweet. So, how many points have you gotten now?” Andrew asked, out of curiosity. “I have 20 points, now. So, I’m left with 15 points, and I hope to have them soon. This really made my evening.” Charles said. “Yeah, it needs celebration.” Andrew teased, and they both laughed. After the hearty conversation they had, Charles hung up and then focused on the road which he had given just half attention, before. When he got home, Martha welcomed him in and then carried his bag. “I have made dinner for you, sir. You can take dinner when you’re done having a shower.” She said, with a slight smile on her face. “Thank you, Marth. You really make me feel at home.” Charles complimented. “You’re welcome, sir. It seems you’re in a good mood today. You’re glowing up.” Martha said as she noticed it from his expression and gestures. “Oh, yeah! Things were just good at work. Oh, yes! That reminds me. I’ll be going on a business trip tomorrow. I can’t tell when I’ll be back, but whenever I’m certain of the date, I’ll inform you, just so you can prepare something really nice for me.” Charles said, with a bright smile. “Oh! Alright, boss. I wish you luck on your business trip. It’s certain you’ll come back victorious.” She said, with so much confidence. For the amount of time she had been working with him, she had also come to know that whatever he ventured in was always a success, and so many people respected him. She knew she was lucky to be working with him because he never made her feel like a maid.In her past working places, she was treated like a maid and reminded over and over that she was nothing but a worker, and would always be. But right here, she was shown love, and she sometimes saw herself as Charles’ mother. It was obvious that one day, Charles would regard her as a mother, or she wished so. “Alright then. I’ll go have a showet then.” Charles said, then walked upstairs. She also followed him upstairs, and then dropped his bag on the bed, then walked out. When Charles was left alone, he pulled off his shirt, and trousers, and his shoes as well,t hen stepped into the bathroom. “It feels so nice to be home, especially after a victorious day.” Charles said as he stretched and then turned on the shower. As he turned on the shower, he let out a sigh of relief, and began from washing his hair which had produced nervous sweat from the hospital. As he flashbacked to that moment when he thought he was dead meat, he laughed. “Well, I’ll always be victorious. It should be obvious to anyone now that I’ll always win.”
