Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 248

When Charles got to his office, he asked to be left alone as he needed to strategize and see how he could make things work. “System, show me how many points I have gathered altogether.” He inquired and waited patiently for the system to show him his points. YOUR POINTS ALL EQUAL TO 15. DO YOU WISH TO USE THEM? YES/NO. Charles tapped his chin lightly, thinking if he can get through with anything with those fifteen points. “Show me the skills I have as options.” He uttered, and focused his eyes on the screen before him. YOU HAVE THE VARIOUS SKILLS OPTIONS AND THE POINTS YOU CAN USE TO GAIN THEM AS WELL ARE AS FOLLOWS: A. FIGHTING SKILLS (15 POINTS) B. MIND READING SKILLS (20 POINTS) C. MARKETING SKILLS (25 POINTS) … Although, Charles was a bit worried with the number of points needed for the various skills and the points that would be needed for the last skill which the system would bring up. But more than that, he was more worried about if the last skill that would be brought up would still turn out to be what he doesn’t need in this current situation. His eyes were fixed on the screen and his heart anticipated anxiously on what the last screen would be. D. PERSUASION SKILLS (35 POINTS) “Shit!” Charles cursed under his breath. He had mixed feelings regarding this. Although, the skill he wanted, came as an option, but he was short of 20 points and he didn’t know when the system was going to provide him with a task. Even if the system provided him with a task, he wasn’t certain of how often and how quick he would get the points. But then, he decided that he would still try his best to persuade Mr. Jayla while working to get more points to sum up to thirty-five. Charles then put a call through to Andrew and patiently waited for him to answer the call. “Hello Charles.” Andrew spoke as he answered the call. “Hi Andrew. How are you doing?”“I’m doing good. What’s up?” Andrew asked, getting the hint that Charles had called him for something important. “Yeah, well. I actually wanted to know if there’s a way you can tweak the system to provide me with tasks often. I need to get more points to acquire a particular skill.” Charles said to Andrew. “Oh! Regarding that, the system knows when you’re in need of something and therefore pops up a notification with a task to get you what you need. Its existence in your head is just so you’ll get whatever you need, if you’re smart about it.” Andrew explained. “So, you mean it would bring in tasks often than usual because it senses my need for it, right?” “Yes. Exactly. Just ensure you’re able to complete the task whenever it brings one to you because failing a task causes a setback you may or may not be able to bear.” Andrew added cautiously. “I see. Alright, thanks for the information. I’ll try my best to always complete the task.” I voiced out. “Alright then. Good luck to you. I got to go, now.” Andrew said, then hung up. Charles was glad that he had Andrew by his side, although, he recalled that Andrew had once said he was planning to leave for another city. He didn’t know when Andrew was going to leave, but he hoped that he would stay long enough to get the hang of things with the system. As he dropped his phone, he picked up the intercom and asked the secretary to call in Mr. Van. After doing that, he sat back on his chair and a part of him felt relieved that things were going to go in his favor, especially if he was smart about them. In about a minute, he heard a knock on his door, so he sat up and clasped his fingers as he focused on the door. “Come in.” He urged, with his eyes still fixated on the door. “Well-done, boss.” Mr. Van spoke as he walked into the office and closed the door behind him gently. “Yes, thanks. Please have your seat.” Charles urged him and Mr. Van took his seat, although, hoping all was well. “So… Uhm… You know you’ve not really had a proper conversation with me since you got the job, but I hope you know what your job prescription entails.” “Yes, I do, sir.” “Good. You’re going to embark with me on a journey to where Mr. Jayla resides which is somewhere in Paris. That way, I would tell if you’re truly the right fit for the job. I would have asked my most trusted employee here, James, to go with me, but I’m going to leave the company in his hands while you and I go over to Paris to persuade Mr. Jayla. Your actions with me all through would determine if I would accept you whole-heartedly in this company or if you would have to look for another job.” Charles said to Mr. Van. Mr. Van then straightened up, and stiffened his face; although, not the kind that seemed disrespectful or that meant anger. “I promise to do whatever you ask me to and to exceed your expectations of me. I’m more than ready for this journey and would do anything for the company to progress.” Mr. Van spoke, in a determined manner. Charles smiled. He was pleased with Mr. Van’s reaction and his willingness to do his best at all times. He knew for sure that with him, if he truly was a good man and a good employee, his company and business affairs would blossom more. “Alright then. We leave first thing tomorrow morning. Also, this journey and what we plan to do has to be confidential. So, you’re free to tell your family that you’re going on a business trip, but you must not tell them the details.” “Noted, boss.” “Alright, dismissed.” Charles said, and watched as Mr. Van walked out of his office. He smiled to himself and let out a relieved sigh. “Paris, be prepared to have me.”
