Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 209

Charles stared intensely at the text which was sent from a strange number, and read it over and over, with his curiosity hitting the high bar, each single time he tried to make sense of it. “I guess today will be the day I need to tell you that I know about the system in your head, Charles. When it’s time for us to meet, I’ll contact you. But be prepared to meet me anytime.” “Is everything alright?’ James who noticed something different about him, asked, inquisitively, and with concern. Charles looked up, and fluttered his eyelids like he was woken from a trance or sort. “Yeah…Yeah, I’m fine.” Charles said, now squinting his eyes, trying to guess who could have sent him this text. But there was no way, he could guess about the person who could have sent the text. No one knew about the system, so if this person knows about it, it’s either the manufacturer, or the one who put it in his head. But these thoughts almost gave Charles a headache, because he couldn’t recall having any surgery when he was younger; if it was that they had fixed it in his head. Although, he was glad about one thing, which was the fact that someone who knew about this system, and how it works, exists, and has texted him. But Charles was too curious to wait to be sent another text. He needed to know who this person is, and how to get to him or her. “James, I’ll need you to track this number for me. Sent it to you already.” Charles said, then James’ phone beeped. He reached out his other arm to his phone, and opened the text. “Alright then. I’ll need my laptop.” “You can use mine. Just download whatever you need to get it done.” Charles said as he rose to his feet, then walked out of the room, heading to his, to get his laptop. He was a bit excited that he was going to get the person who sent him that text, in no time. After getting a hold of his laptop, he went back to James, then James sat up, and began to work on it. While James was tapping his fingers on the keyboard, Charles was anxious about the results, and hoped that he would get the result he needed. After for what seemed to be about ten minutes, Charles noticed James shaking his head slowly, like things weren’t going the way he wanted.“This person is untraceable. Besides, he has surrounded his information with a lot of big-time viruses. Whoever tries to penetrate which will turn out to be successful, will experience a terrible, and unrevivable breakdown of his or her device.” James explained, looking a bit sad that he wasn’t able to help out. “This person must be a tech guru.” Charles thought to himself. “This person must be a tech expert. A top-notch.” James uttered, then dropped the laptop beside him on the bed. “Why do you want to track the number, by the way?” James asked, out of curiosity. “Well, it’s nothing to worry about. You need to rest up.” Charles said, trying not to sound a bit down that he had his hopes, raised. He picked up his laptop, and walked back into his room, then laid on his bed, feeling so exhausted. He had had a long day, and realized that he needed rest badly as his body came in contact with the bed. Then he recalled that he had left Vera in the sitting room. So, he scrolled to her contact, and dialed her number. “You can take your leave, Vera. You also need rest. Tomorrow, we’ll get back to work.” “Alright then. Enjoy the rest of your day.” “Thanks.” Charles hung up the call, and then let out a deep breath as he sank into his bed, more. Then he slowly closed his eyes, until he fell asleep. ~ A few hours into the night, Charles woke up. He wished he had slept al through, and woke up in the morning, but since his mind was wide awake, he decided to check on James. He walked out of his room, then headed to the room where James was healing up. But as he got into the room, he discovered James was grunting in pain, holding his arm, and then his phone was vibrating. Charles dashed towards James, and tried to understand what was going on. “I’m…I’m in so much pain. The painkiller isn’t working.” James voiced out in pain. Charles became worried, and put a call through to the doctor, but the doctor wasn’t picking up. He was probably sleeping, with his phone on silent.“Shit!” He cursed out loud, feeling frustrated. He glanced at James’ phone, and figured out it was Amelia who was trying to get to him. So, to put her mind at rest as he knew she was capable of coming over to his house by this time of the night. “James is fine, and the bomb has been removed from his arm. He’s sound asleep now. You can speak with him tomorrow.” As he sent the text, he hoped that she would be at peace, and would be able to sleep. James was still groaning in pain, and he was sweating. It wasn’t supposed to hurt this bad, but he knew nothing about the mini surgery process, so he had to be cautious. Then he went online, and tried to search up what he could do, but none of his research was giving him the result he wanted. “Sys…system, what do I do?” Charles muttered under his breath, worried about James. Then the system whirred, and on its screen which Charles only could see, it noticed that the system was trying to scan James, and find out his condition. So, he decided to wait, hoping that it would find it out immediately, and give him a solution to the issue on ground. Another thing he had to worry about was that he hoped that whatever the solution was, it was going to be within reach as he wouldn’t be able to get anything outside, this late. And this kind of pain which James was experiencing, seemed like it could take his life if nothing was done to it quickly.
