Revenge of the Rejected
The announcement left everyone especially the manager speechless. They couldn't believe that Charles had bought the hotel within an hour of his visit. Most of the workers had no idea who he was but they were happy that the ownership had been shifted to him. Mr. Pascal barely paid attention to their needs but made them work heavily. They had complained endlessly to the manager who couldn’t do anything because of the CEO. "This is unbelievable." The receptionist muttered to herself. "He just walked in here about an hour ago. How powerful could he be?" The manager was left dumbfounded in his office. He couldn't believe that Mr. Pascal who was so greedy would ever agree to sell the hotel. He wondered what Charles did or said to him. “Finally.” The head chef rejoiced. “I hope this new CEO will not be a glutton like Mr. Pascal.” “Maybe he will finally buy more kitchen equipments.” Another staff chipped in. In fact, everyone was rejoicing due to the change in management. The hotel was being poorly managed and they hoped that Charles would do better. When Charles emerged at the lobby again, Vera was bewildered. “I know you told me you would buy the hotel but I didn’t know you could do it this fast. How on earth did you get the CEO to sell the hotel to you?” Charles chuckled. “I told you that I have my way.” He didn’t tell her about the system’s skills which helped him to persuade both the manager and CEO. “Let’s be on our way now.” Just then, the manager left his office and approached Charles. He was shaking with fright because he initially opposed Charles proposal. He thought that Charles was going to fire him and decided to beg. “Mr. Charles, congratulations on your new win.” He said offering Charles a handshake. “I trust that you’ll be a better boss than Mr. Pascal.” “Thank you.” Charles replied. “Would I still be the manager?” He asked, his voice laced with concern. “Please don’t fire me because I opposed your deal. This job means a lot to me.” “Don’t worry. I don’t intend to fire you.” Charles responded. “You actually proved to be a good manager so I’ll still leave you to manage the hotel in my absence.” The manager fell on his knees. “Thank you so much. I promise I won’t disappoint you.”Charles patted him on the back. “Go back to your office. We will discuss more details later.” Vera and Charles left Golden State Hotel with Charles clutching the file containing his ownership rights. “Now that I’ve purchased the ownership rights to Golden State Hotel, I can finally say I’ve achieved a lot.” Charles said to himself. “I wonder how Angela and her family would react when they find out I’m no longer the person they thought I was.” “Do you have anything else to do?” Vera asked, jolting him out of his thoughts. “This is the last thing for today.” Charles said, flagging down a cab. “Let’s go get lunch before you head home.” He flagged down a cab which drove them to a small, private restaurant in the city. It was a lovely restaurant, where most couples would come to have a beautiful meal. “I love Nikos Restaurant.” Vera said, beaming with smiles as Charles led her in. “I’ve always dreamed of coming here.” “Well, you’re here now.” He pulled out a chair for her to seat. He was really pleased to have Vera by his side, his attraction to her increasing daily. One of their waitress immediately came to serve them. “What can I get you?” “We will have a bottle of wine first, then get anything she wants.” He said smiling. “We should celebrate our win for today.” “Yes, yes.” Vera was more than happy. “Get us your best wine and two plates of salad.” The waitress left instantly and returned with their best bottle of wine. “This is our best wine. It costs $15000 per bottle.” “No problem. Get us two glass cups.” Charles instructed her. Just then, the system’s screen popped up. [Mission completed. You have been rewarded with two black card points. You can convert any of this points to money during emergencies. Each point values $10 million dollars.] “Ten million dollars? I will definitely keep this points for future use.” Charles thought within himself. Charles cleared his throat, raising his glass of wine. “Let’s toast to today’s success. We’ve accomplished a lot in 24 hours. I’m a CEO and you’re a CEO’s esteemed assistant. I hope our path continues to be smooth.” “Let’s toast to Charles Lincoln.” “Charles Lincoln!” They chorused together. Goosebumps washed over Charles immediately. Usually, his name was never important to people but now, he was now a dignified man. Charles Lincoln was no longer the name of an ordinary delivery man but a powerful man in the city. He couldn’t wait to accomplish all his plans and deal with those who betrayed him. “So, what do you plan to do tomorrow?” Vera asked, eating her salad. “I want to hire bodyguards like I said and buy more properties across the city. I believe investing in real estate is a great idea.” “Yes it is,” Vera answered. “I have a couple of real estate agents that are friends with me. Maybe you can discuss with them and see which one you would like to invest in.” “That’s a great idea. We will definitely do that tomorrow.” After having lunch and paying the bills which was over $17,000, Charles and Vera left Nikos Restaurant. “Thanks for the lunch. It was really delicious.” Vera said politely. “You’re welcome.” Charles flagged down a cab. “You can go home now. Tomorrow, we will discuss more details about your payment.” “Thank you.” He watched as she slid into the cab and it drove away.
