Revenge of the Rejected
Charles decided to go to bed, as it was getting late, and he had a journey the next day. He was worried about James, as it was obvious he was feeling lonely just as Vera had suggested. Indeed James liked to be everywhere, working, and doing his job. It must have been tiring for him to sit around on the bed all day. Even during the meal they had that evening, Charles had been scared, as he watched James move his arm continuously to feed himself. He knew bombs didn't just go off like that, but it was probably because James was someone he cherished, and didn't want to lose. Taking off his clothes, he walked into the shower, and stayed under the water for a long time. The water patted his head softly, warmly, and trickled down his back, and face. He had a lot on his mind, but thankfully, he had a little cause to be relieved, and the major reason for his relief was the fact that he had successfully completed the first task. After a long shower in which he had turned thoughts over and over in his head, he finally dried himself, his hair, and tugged on night clothes. Then he fell on the bed, exhausted. However, before he could step into the land of dreams completely, his phone rang, jolting him out of the sleep that had almost blanketed him. It was Vera. "Why are you calling this late at night?" He muttered to himself in frustration, and picked the call. "Hello?" "Hello." She replied. "Why are you calling?" Charles asked. "Because I was worried. You didn't check back in at work after you left, and didn't notify me of where you were going. Also, I wanted to ask about James. How is he? Is he fine?" She asked, and I sighed. "Well, he's frustrated just as you guessed he was. He wants to move around, and suggested going on a trip to learn more about different tech products, where they originated from, and tour the tech companies in whatever city we go to. Learning what the world needs. That was his main point." He explained. "When is the trip?" She asked. "I'm guessing tomorrow. I don't have much to do, and need a break from this city. Also, it would help me find better ideas for my tech products that would be more successful than the one with Lomgman." He replied, and Vera sighed. "Is he going?" She asked. "No way. I'm still worried about his arm." "He's going to be devastated. James loves stuff like trips. He hates to be left out on anything that's going on. Do you think it's fair leaving him out?" She asked, and Charles sighed. "He only needs to wait. Just a little more until we can get the bomb out. It'll be fine." ~ The next morning, Vera showed up at Charles' house, and went straight to see James. He was sleeping peacefully. His arm was healing fine, and looked strong. She knew he was probably depressed because he couldn't do the things he loved to do, and that a trip would really help boost his spirits. The breeze from the window during the drive, people and their different appearances, actions, city lights… Who wouldn't like travelling? She patted him slowly, and adjusted the blankets on him, before leaving the room. It was only a matter of time before he'd be back to being himself. She left the room, and met Charles about to go in. "Is…." "He's sleeping." She replied, and he turned away. "Let's go, then. Is there anything you have to take care of? You don't have to come if you're busy." He said, but she pursed her lips. "You're not the only one who sees this as an opportunity to take a break, and find comfort in the road." She replied, and Charles chuckled, then they met Amelia on the stairs, about going to check on James. "Are you leaving already?" She asked. "Yes, James is sleeping. Please take care of him." Vera said, and Amelia nodded. "We'll be leaving." Charles said, and they went down the stairs. The drive was a smooth one, without any traffic, and the breeze floated in comfortingly. It was exactly the kind of break he needed. The breeze was cool, and the sight of so many tall buildings was refreshing.Shortly after driving past the tall buildings, and arriving at an intersection, Charles spotted a woman afar off, who seemed to be down. Her head was turned down, and her bag was held downwards dejectedly. The breeze blew around her hair, but she didn't seem to care. Rather, she seemed like she had given up on caring. Then she looked up, stared at the crosswalk, and began to walk on it. "What is that woman doing?" Charles asked, sitting upright. "What woman?" Vera asked, trying to see what she was saying. The woman was walking onto the crosswalk, and it wasn't even the red light yet. The cars were going to crush her. Even if the cars weren't too much on the road, there was no way she'd make it without being hit. "Woah!" Vera shouted, finally spotting the woman. "What is she doing?" The driver asked. There was a car going for the woman at a high speed, but she didn't stop, rather, she looked at it, without fear in her eyes. "If you want to die, die somewhere else!" Vera exclaimed, and all the disaster seemed to happen in a second. The car came to a dangerous halt, and the back lifted into the air, before falling back to the floor. The car behind it crashed into it, not expecting it to stop, and another car, which had seen it coming, tried to swerve away, but only collided with another car which was pushed towards the sidewalk. People screamed, and tried to get away, running for their lives. The destruction didn't stop. A large van was involved, and that complicated things. A car turned three hundred and sixty, trying to avoid crashing into the chaos, and surprised Charles' driver, who shouted, as the car spiraled towards them.
