Revenge of the Rejected
"Can anyone explain what's happening here?" Mr. Celio asked again. "Why are the staffs not working? Why are they clustered in one corner?" "I believe that would be my fault," Charles chipped in before Madame Visa replied. "We were trying to settle some poor customer care issues but I'm already on my way out." Madame Visa shot Charles a pleading look, begging him not to say anything. Charles had never seen her that humble and scared before. He knew that reporting her to Mr. Celio would be the end of her job. "What poor customer care issue?" Mr. Celio asked, looking around in bewilderment. He didn't want to believe that any of his staff would be trying to ruin the reputation of his store. "Please, enlighten me, Sir. I'm Celio, the owner of this great store." Charles cleared his throat. "I'm Charles." "Mr. Charles was actually leaving." Madame Visa chipped in immediately, hoping she could drive Charles away before the truth leaked out. "May I escort you outside?" "Not so fast, Madame Visa." Mr. Celio said and all the color on her face drained. Her heart began to hammer in her chest and beads of sweat clustered her forehead. Mr. Celio turned to Charles. "You were talking about poor customer care amongst members of my staff, weren't you? Please point them out and their offenses." Charles knew it was time to take revenge on Rita and Madame Visa for their terrible attitude. He recounted everything that they had done to him starting from when he used to work as a delivery man to his present experience. When he was done, Mr. Celio's face was reddened with anger and Madame Visa was trembling with fright in the corner. The proud woman couldn't even dare to look at Mr. Celio in the eye. Rita on the other hand was already crying as she stood behind other salesgirls. She knew that even if Madame Visa was spared, her time at Celio was over. She immediately thought about her poor mother who she was taking care of with the money she earned as a salesgirl. What would happen to her if she lost her job? Within her, she was doomed and only a miracle could save her. Mr. Celio clenched his fist in anger. "Rita!" He called out and she crawled out from the midst of the salesgirls. "Stand right there!" The tears on her face did not move Mr. Celio because he knew she was only sorry that she was reported. If Charles hadn't spoken up, she would have continued to be a terrible attendant to people. "When I employed you, you were almost begging for scraps. I took you in regardless of your inexperience with fashion and trained you. Despite all that, you've decided to tarnish the reputation of my store." "No, Mr. Celio," Rita began to beg. "Please, I can explain." "Explain what?" Mr. Celio's voice echoed across the entire store. "Explain how you humiliated this man countless times? How will you explain that you almost drove a man that bought clothes worth five million dollars away from my store? There's no explanation that you would give me to justify your actions." Rita rushed to Mr. Celio's feet and grabbed his anger. "Please Sir, please don't fire me. Please give me another chance and I promise to do better." She cried. Mr. Celio kicked her away with such an intensity that sent her flying across the room. "They will be no second chances for you. Pack up your things if you have actually anything tangible here and leave. I don't want to see you or whatever looks like you in this place in the next one minute." "No!! Please!!" Rita screamed, tossing her hands and feet in the air. "My mother is sick and this is the only job I have. She will die if I don't have money to take care of her. Please, give me one more chance." "You have thirty more seconds," Mr. Celio said, ignoring her pleas and tears. "If you really cared about your mother, you should have thought about the consequences of your actions. Now, get out before I ask my bodyguards to throw you out of this place." Other salesgirls watched with fear in their heart as Rita kept begging but Mr. Celio remained adamant. They only prayed that Charles wouldn't say anything about how they gossiped about him. "Bruno!" Mr. Celio called out to his bodyguard. "Take this thing out of here and if she resists, ensure you call the police to lock her up." He ordered him to bundle Rita out when she failed to leave within the time frame given to her. "Please, please," Rita begged as she was hauled out of the store. Immediately she was taken out, Mr. Celio turned to Madame Visa who was praying her case would be forgotten because of Rita. "Now, come forward." Madame Visa walked timidly toward him, her lips quivering with fright. "Sir, it's not what you think it is." She became defensive even before he said anything. Mr. Celio chuckled. "Why are you defending yourself and I haven't said anything? I believe you're already feeling guilty for your actions, aren't you?" "It was never my intention to–" "Shut up, Madame Visa." Mr. Celio barked and she froze with fear. "I've received a lot of complaints about you from several people. Most of the time, you feed me with lies and excuses because you feel like you're untouchable. Well, today, I will show you that you're nothing but a worker in this store. You're just in the same level as these salesgirl here." Madame Visa's heart was in her mouth. "Sir, all I have done is to improve the name of this store. I've never done anything to hurt the image of this store." "You injured this young man with your car. A car that I bought for you so that you can be available at this store at all times." Mr. Celio spat. "Before I send you out, I want the keys to that car. You don't even deserve a bicycle." At that moment, Madame Visa fell to her knees and began to beg. Initially, she didn't think that her punishment would be so harsh but she had underestimated Mr. Celio. "Sir, please, forgive me for all I have done." She cried. "You can take away my salary for this month or even two months. But please don't take the car or fire me. I promise to turn a new leaf immediately." Mr. Celio laughed. "Your tears don't mean a thing to me. Hearing what you've done to Mr. Charles, I know you don't have a conscience. I will not only fire you but I will blacklist you in the entire city. No one will employ you and wherever you go, everyone will know you're wicked and unprofessional." Madame Visa was left tongue tied by his words. She knew it was the end of her career and the only way she would ever work was to leave the city. "That would destroy me," her makeup had smeared all over her face. "You can't possibly do this to me. I don't deserve it." Mr. Celio signaled to two of his guards. "Go up and clear her desk. Bring the car keys and any other thing from this store to me." "No!!! Don't touch my things!" She yelled and tried to run upstairs to her office. "Stop her and throw her out!" Mr. Celio ordered and his body guards rounded her. She tried to fight them but they easily overpowered her. "I don't deserve this! This is unfair!" She screamed as the bodyguards dragged her away. "Charles, this is not over!! I promise you!!" "I can't believe she's not remorseful," Mr. Celio said to Charles as Madame Visa was taken away . "Thank you for bringing my attention to the improper treatment you received. I'll definitely hire someone better to replace her." Charles nodded. "I'm glad that you resolved the issue and fired those that don't deserve their positions here. Others will learn from what happened today and I'm sure they will behave better." Mr. Celio looked at Charles with respect. "I really admire your ability to handle situations well. Here is my business card in case you need our rare fashion collections specially produced in Paris." He handed Charles his hand which he quickly collected. After some brief conversations, Charles left the store with Vera. "I'll like to reward you for your kindness to me," Charles said to the receptionist. He quickly pulled out his check book and wrote a check of five hundred thousand dollars for her. "Here, you deserve it." The receptionist couldn't contain her joy and excitement. "Thank you so much, Charles. I can't believe this!" "You're welcome. Keep being the kind woman you are and people will continue to bless you." He said, before walking away with Vera.
