Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 176

Charles was disturbed by this new discovery, and didn’t know what to think or do at that moment. While in his room, he walked around his bed, thinking deeply about why the system would act in a strange way which he never dreamt about or imagined would happen. “What upgrade is needed, and how do I go about this upgrade?” Charles asked the system, out of curiosity. ACCEPT THE UPGRADE AND THEN MORE INFORMATION ABOUT IT WOULD BE REVEALED. ONCE YOU ACCEPT, THE DEADLINE FOR THE UPGRADE WOULD BE RENEWED. Charles was still confused about where all these were coming from, but he had no choice than to adhere to whatever the system says. Afterall, who would be happy to lose their sight? “Alright, I accept the upgrade.” Charles responded. Then the system made a sound that sounded like everything was going smoothly. But Charles wasn’t so comfortable. He didn’t know what kind of upgrade he was agreeing to, but after a while, he felt a bit calm. Since he got the system, the system had brought nothing but more gains, and a better life. It couldn’t possibly bring him something worse, and since it was called an upgrade. “Since it’s an upgrade, I should expect something much better. Although, we could have made use of the upgrade during the times I was still trying to put my father behind bars.” Charles spoke out, then sat on his bed. But then, he was ready to conquer whatever trouble he could have left, and also to focus more on his businesses, and one of the things he had to focus on, regarding his business was the competition ahead. He put a call through to Vera again, and she answered the call almost immediately. She had been a bit worried about him, hoping the incident that happened, wasn’t going to disturb him too much. “I think the competition date must have been out, by now. I need you to check it out, and have our teams prepared for that day.” Charles instructed. “No problem. I’ll see to that.” “Sure. You can reply me via text as I’m about to go to bed.” “Alright, I will. Have a nice rest.” Vera said, over the phone.Charles hung up and then went to his bathroom to have a shower before going to bed. The next day, James and Amelia were on their way back to the city, and both of them looked at each other at intervals, smiling happily as James drove them. “So, if I was really pregnant, how would you feel, and react? I need you to say the truth.” Amelia asked, looking quite elated. “Well, when you told me you were pregnant, I was shocked, and didn’t know how to react, but now that I’m a bit calm, I would have accepted the baby, obviously.” James replied with a smile, then swerved to the left. “Are you certain you’re ready to be a father?” Amelia chuckled, covering her mouth in modesty. “Well, why not?” “Your job. You have a lot to do, and most times, you could be busy.” “I know right? But then, as the mother, you would be able to watch after my children.” James smiled. Amelia blushed at this, and she hoped in her heart that they were going to last long this time, and not like the other times when things came up that made her distance herself from him. When they got to a lonely road, and were driving at a moderate speed, a few cars blocked their paths which made James stop abruptly, and the car tires screeched. James got annoyed as he wondered what exactly was going on, especially as the car owners’ reckless attitude could have made them lose their life, or get injured. “Are you okay, Amelia?” James asked, out of concern “Yes, I am. But something feels wrong, James.” Amelia uttered, looking a bit scared. “What’s wrong?” “There are cars which have closed in on us, at the back.” Amelia spoke, now looking at the back. James began to feel wary about the situation, and then looked back at Amelia. “Don’t get out of the car. Just stay where you are, and don’t speak.” He instructed her, then unbuckled his seat belt. Amelia held him back, looking like she didn’t trust whatever was going on. She also feared for the fact that he wouldn’t come back to the car alive. So many things had separated them, but they were able to come back to each other. But if death separated them, there was no coming back. “Please don’t go.” She pleaded, with tears filling her eyes up. “I shouldn’t go? You mean we should wait until they come over to our car, and then be more interested in dragging you in whatever reason they surrounded us? Just be calm. I’ll be fine. But then, call 911, and speak in a low tone.” James instructed her. She found it difficult to nod her head as she wasn’t convinced that he would be fine. To make matters worse, some men began to get down from the cars in front of them, and they were in black suits. James stared at them from the windshield, and when he saw that they were coming towards their car, he looked back at Amelia and cupped her cheeks with his hands. “Just do as I say.” He said to her, then got down from the car, just so as to make those men to stop walking towards them. Amelia felt so scared within her that she began to feel chills run down her spine. Her hands shook as she brought out her phone, and tried dialing 911. But the cold sweat on her fingertips were making it difficult for that to happen. “Amelia, be calm.” She said to herself in a trembling voice. She was finally able to dial 911, and after a few rings, they answered the call. “911, what’s your emergency?” A female voice spoke calmly over the phone. But before Amelia could speak, she heard a gunshot, and a loud groan which seemed so much like James’ voice.
