Revenge of the Rejected
Charles and Vera ordered a cab to Celio Fashion Store after they left Visiondot. Celio Fashion Store was one of the best fashion line in the city and Charles wanted to shop for some clothes there. He planned to spend more money so he would complete the system's task and receive two black card points. As they walked into the fashion store, the receptionist was staring at Charles like she had just seen a ghost. Charles expected her reaction because he used to work as a delivery man at Celio but now he was coming to shop for their clothes. Celio was a well known fashion brand with the best collection of clothes. Most of their designs were made from imported materials from all over the world so their clothes were really expensive. In fact, once you are seen in public wearing one of their clothes, you will be respected and admired. "Charles, is that you?" The receptionist asked when Charles and Vera tried to check in. "It's been a long time we've seen you here." Charles smiled. "I know. I'm no longer working as a delivery man. I'm actually here to get some very nice clothes." The receptionist couldn't hide her shock but she checked Charles in anyway. During his time as a delivery man, she was very kind to him. Sometimes, she would give him some money to buy lunch whenever he was starving. She didn't insult him like others and even made sure that the staffs were very polite to him. As much as she was surprised to see him, she was happy that he was doing better. Charles walked into the large store filled with very beautiful and expensive clothes. They had a collection of various items like suits, dresses, hats, shoes and others. As soon as he walked in, some of the staffs noticed him and Vera. "Isn't that Charles the delivery man?" One of them asked as Charles walked past her. She examined him from head and toe to with shock. "Excuse me," one of the salesgirls, Rita, approached him. "Are you here to deliver food to anyone? Please you should have given the delivery package to the receptionist instead of coming in here." She said, eyeing Charles meanly. Rita was one of the girls who used to look down on Charles whenever he came to deliver food. She would always laugh at his clothes and make fun of him in front of other salesgirls. "I'm not here to deliver food," The calmness in Charles tone made her feel uncomfortable. She also didn't notice any obedience in his eyes. She wondered how he had suddenly gotten so confident. "I'll like to see your recent collections, especially the top ranking pieces on your website. I want to purchase some clothes today." Rita couldn't believe her ears. Was it Charles, the delivery man with shabby clothes that was requesting to see their latest collections? What had suddenly happened to him? Where did he get the money to shop from Celio? Even as she was an employee, she couldn't even afford their cheapest clothing piece. "Are you saying that you can afford even one of our recent clothing piece?" She looked amused. "I didn't take you for a comedian but that was really funny." Vera who was now very impatient and angry with her spoke up immediately. "Can you show us your recent piece or would you like to lose your job?" Rita examined Vera and noticed she was wearing a very nice dress. In her mind, she quickly put two together and concluded that Vera must be Charles' boss. She believed that no miracle on earth could make Charles rich. "I'm so sorry ma," she apologized quickly. "I didn't know that he was your escort." She scoffed. "I certainly knew there was no way he would be able to afford our recent clothing pieces." "That does not matter," Vera chipped in. "We don't have all day. Show the clothes to us." "Come this way," Rita said, leading them to the exclusive section of the fashion house. The exclusive section housed their best pieces from amazing fashion designers. It was off limits to shoppers except they requested for it. "This is our exclusive section. You can pick anything you like and once you're done, you can pay for them at the cashier stand. Also, please check the price tag because the clothing pieces here are quite expensive," she informed them before walking away. Immediately she got back to her stand with other salesgirl, she began to gossip about Charles. "Can you imagine the way he was talking to me like he is the mayor of the city? I'm very sure that he's either working as a mere bodyguard or servant." Rita said to her colleagues. "I don't think so. The woman is walking right behind him. Isn't that unusual? He should be walking behind her if she's truly his boss." One of the salesgirl said. "Hmmm, that's true. He's also checking out some clothes for himself. Could it be that he has suddenly become rich?" Rita hissed. "I don't believe he has suddenly become rich. How can a common delivery man become rich overnight? He's definitely working for that woman." "I think we should tell the manager, shouldn't we?" One of the salesgirl suggested. "Absolutely," Rita desperately wanted Charles to be disgraced. "I'm very sure she would be delighted to know that her delivery boy is now a rich man." She laughed, then quickly ran to the manager's office. "Maam, you won't believe what's happening," She was shaking with excitement. "Charles, the delivery man who disappeared for some days now has returned. And guess what? He is shopping in our exclusive section with a young woman. I think you should come and see him." The managing director of the fashion house, Madame Visa, scrutinized Rita carefully to know if she was joking but there was no indication that she was. "Are you serious about what you're saying?" She asked. "And why did you let him into the exclusive section?" "The woman he was with insisted on going there," she answered. "I decided to inform you about it." "Wow," Madame Visa was surprised. "How can he suddenly go from being a delivery boy to a rich man? I'm very sure something is fishy. Let me go and take a look." Madame Visa was one of those bosses who liked to favor only the wealthy and high ranking people in the city. To her, a poor man had no concern with fashion. With Rita by her side, they rushed out to the exclusive section of the store. To her surprise, Charles was indeed there and Rita was telling the truth. Seeing Vera by his side, she concluded that she was his boss. Unlike Charles, her clothes were of decent quality. She didn't believe for even a second that Charles could afford anything in their store. "Hello," Madame Visa greeted Vera, completely ignoring Charles. "Welcome to Celio Fashion House. I can see you're shopping from our recent collections, have you seen anything you like?" "Yes, I have," Vera replied with a charming smile. "I'm Vera and this is Charles. Your collection is beautiful." Madame Visa eyed Charles with disgust. "Of course, I know Charles. He used to work here as our delivery boy." She increased her voice so that everyone in the exclusive section could hear her. "Why did you employ such an unprofessional and shabby looking man as your personal assistant? Surely, they are better looking men who will do better than him." Vera could immediately tell that Madama Visa wanted to embarrass Charles like others. She simply faked a laugh and ignored the question. "Can I see your recent shoe collection?" "Sure," Madame Visa pointed to the shoe section. "Are you here to buy clothes for yourself or for your assistant as well?" Again, Vera ignored her question and smiled. She was waiting for Charles to finish shopping and shock everyone with his swift payment. Madame Visa on the other hand was annoyed by Vera's lack of response. She had hoped to get some information about Charles from her but Vera wasn't saying anything. "Can you hurry up with your selection please?" She said, eyeing both of them. "And watch your assistant before he steals anything from here." Charles heard her and smiled to himself. He was almost done with his selection and just needed to get some shoes. After getting their best shoes, Charles returned with a heap of clothes and dumped them at Madame Visa's feet. Madame Visa exclaimed with shock. "How dare you–" but she froze when she saw the clothing piece that Charles selected. On the floor were ten of their best suits and shoes. The suits were designed by their best fashion designers and cost more than any item in the store. She looked up at Charles and back to the clothes. Confusion etched across her face because the suits were clearly for men. It only meant that Charles was the one shopping for clothes and not Vera. Could it mean that he was really rich now? "Why did you throw them on the floor? Do you know how expensive they are?" She asked. "Of course, I looked at the price tag so I know they are expensive." Charles replied. "I want to buy all of them." Madame Visa couldn't believe her ears and eyes. Charles was standing confidently in front of her and he wanted to buy ten of their best suits. Since the suits were designed, only rich councilmen and governors had bought them. How did he think he could afford it? "Pick them up," Charles ordered her, snapping her out of her thoughts. "Pick the clothes up and take them to the cashier."
