Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 155

Before he could speak, another doctor came out, smiling, and this made Charles hopeful that they surgery had actually gone well. “Mr. Lincoln, the surgery went well. He will be moved to a ward, and when he wakes, you can visit him.” The doctor informed, and Charles almost jumped up in great joy. He shared the news to the others and they were all glad that none of their efforts went to waste. Then he and James went outside the hospital to take a walk, later that night. “It feels so great whenever we achieve something.” James spoke out, breaking the silence between both of them as they walked step by step down a quiet road. Although, the road was quiet, but a few people were still seen around, each of them to themselves. “I know right? Things are gradually unfolding, and this time, I have a hunch that my father would go down for good.” “I support and trust you on that. He has to go down, because he has tried a lot of things, and it’s time he stops his heinous acts.” James uttered. “Yeah. By the way, so, did Amelia call again after the times you ignored her calls?” Charles asked, out of curiosity. “Well, she actually surprised me.” James blushed as he dipped his hand into his pockets. “Really? By surprise, what do you mean?” Charles went further in asking his question, but before James could reply, a call came in for Charles. It was from Vera. “Hello Vera.” Charles spoke as he dipped his other hand into his pocket. “How’s what you went for, over there?” Vera asked, out of concern. “Well, it’s going well, I suppose. Actually, it’s a process to ensure that my father goes down.” Vera smiled over the phone. She always knew that Charles would never go on a journey just for something which may not be reasonable enough. Just hearing that he had a plan in mind which was currently in progress made her platonic admiration for him to grow more. “Oh, that’s really nice to hear. I’m sure it’ll keep progressing. Your companies here are also doing well, too.”“That’s great to hear. By the way, I need you to check on Sunrise Resort to see how the Lincolns I captured, are faring.” Charles requested. “No problem on that. I will do that.” Charles hung up and then he signaled to James to go on with what he was about to say. “Well, as I said earlier, she surprised me. She surprised me by waiting at my doorstep that night.” “Whoa! That late? She’s got some guts for a lady.” “That’s what I thought. But she came with positive news. There’s a high chance we’ll get back together as a better couple, this time.” “I hope so, too.” A call came in again, and this time, it was from his driver. Charles answered the call immediately as he knew any news from the hospital was what was more important now. “Sir, Mr. Thompson is awake, and has asked to see you.” His driver informed respectfully, with a subtle tone of excitement. “Alright, I’ll be on my way, right now.” Charles uttered, then informed James. They both ran back to the hospital as they had walked quite a distance from there. As soon as they got to Mr. Thompson’s ward, Mr. Thompson opened his eyes and his eyes beamed with joy as he set his eyes on Charles. “You still have a hint of resemblance of your younger self, Charles.” Mr. Thompson said as Charles moved closer to him. “You’ve seen me before now?” “Obviously, I have to know who the young master is. Forgive me that I wasn’t able to take you in. I had problems to sort out as well, and it’s not wise to tag you along in my problems.” Mr. Thompson said, weakly. “It’s fine. I understand. I may not have been able to grow stronger if I wasn’t left in the mouths of lions.” Charles said, then took a seat near Mr. Thompson’s bed. “Very true. Now, getting straight to the situation on ground. I know you’re in search of what your mother kept for you in that vault. I had to take it the moment I discovered that your father took possession of her properties.” Mr. Thompson explained. “That’s what I thought, and I appreciate you for such wise movement.” “Your mother was a good woman. I would do anything to make her smile even as she is in the heavens, watching us.”Charles smiled, happy that his mother had actually formed a good and strong ally before leaving the world. At least, his mother accomplished something nice as well. “She left a few important documents for you and I kept them in the bathroom, the same way I kept the other address. Go over to my house and retrieve it, then take control of what’s rightfully yours, Charles.” Thompson said, with confidence. Charles nodded, feeling overwhelmed by all that was happening, but he tried his best to stay strong and composed. When he was about to leave, Mr. Thompson thanked him again for saving his life, and Charles made him know that his good deeds helped him out. As Charles walked out of the ward, he signaled to his crew to follow him out. They got into the car, and the driver drove them back to Mr. Thompson’s house where Charles went in search of the important documents. He went over to the bathroom immediately, and brought out the documents that were safely kept in the water closet. “Thankfully, my father’s man didn’t find it.” Charles thought to himself and smiled. Then he went over to the sitting room, and went through it. Charles was shocked to discover that his mother had left him three great companies. A tech company, a five-star restaurant, and a company in charge of processing cement. His mouth dropped open when he found out the net-worth of these companies each. He chuckled lightly and said to himself. “Father, you are definitely on the losing side.”
