Revenge of the Rejected
Everyone in the car, heard Mr. Lincoln’s threats, and James could understand why Anthony was so pressured to capture Charles. Even as they understood him and had a feeling he was now on their side, they still preferred to ensure he wasn’t out of their sight as Mr. Lincoln’s threats could lead him to have a rethink. “But I’m glad you’re giving me a second chance. Once this is all done, I really hope I can escape far out of Mr. Lincoln’s reach, just so I won’t be captured again to be tortured to death.” Anthony said, shakily. “You won’t need to run nor hide, because I will ensure he goes to jail, and before then, he wouldn’t even have the time to give orders to search for you.” Charles voiced out, with determination. This time, he was going to use all his might and resources to ensure that his father gets what he deserves, and regardless of his power and influence, he won’t escape this particular arrest, especially if he has been escaping the others, before. Soon, they got out to the busy streets, and there was a bit of traffic, holding them down. “I hate delays.” Charles complained, under his breath. Then Charles turned to Anthony who was merely looking at the busy life on the streets. “You know your way around these places, isn’t it? So, tell us, what short cut can we go through?” Charles asked, desperately. “Actually, I don’t know places around here. I was sent from Paris to eliminate you. I once lived in California, before I was taken away by Mr. Lincoln to Paris to receive torture, but I didn’t live or come over to places like this.” “Really?” Charles exclaimed in disbelief. “It’s the truth.” “I trust you, but then, where were you leading us to, back then when you were driving my car?” “I had actually found a perfect spot to eliminate you and that’s where I was taking you to.” Anthony responded. “Oh, I see.” Charles had no choice than to sit back and watch as the traffic congestion either reduced or increased. For what seemed like fifteen minutes, they were stuck in traffic, but all of a sudden, everything cleared up, and the driver sped up while obeying traffic rules. Soon, when they got to their destination, they all got down from the car, and stood, staring at a particular modern house. “I guess this is his house.” James voiced out as he studied the house. “I hope so.” They walked up to the doorstep, and then knocked, but there was no response. They knocked for about three consecutive times, but there still was no response until they discovered that the door was slightly closed and not locked. Both James and Charles exchanged looks, hoping things were fine. They quickly barged in and then discovered that the place was already a mess. They all split up immediately, in search of Mr. Thompson. Charles hurried up to the bedroom and to his shock, he met a man, stabbing Mr. Thompson. From the look of it, this was the second time he was about digging the knife into Mr. Thompson’s stomach. “Shit!” Charles cursed out loud as he dashed towards the man, and pushed him against the floor. James and the others who heard the sound of their struggle, rushed up to the bedroom and joined Charles before the man could stab Charles. They were able to free Charles, but the man ran off and escaped. Charles’ driver had called 911 as that was most important at the moment. Soon, the paramedics arrived, and Mr. Thompson was laid on a stretcher, then wheeled into the ambulance, while Charles followed him, then James, Anthony and the driver followed them with Charles’ car. While Charles was in the ambulance, hoping deeply for Mr. Thompson to survive the stabs, a system notification came up. YOUR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN CREDITED WITH FIVE MILLION DOLLARS AND YOU ARE EXPECTED TO SPEND IT WITHIN SEVEN HOURS. Charles ignored the system notification as he wasn’t in any mood to start looking for a way to spend the money. But he hoped that he wouldn’t fail the task as he was well aware that it could have serious repercussions which are worser than the present situation. On getting to the hospital, they wheeled Mr. Thompson into the emergency unit, then a doctor hurried up to Charles. “He’ll need to undergo surgery. Are you his son?”“No, but you can say I’m his relative.” Charles replied. “Alright then. He has two serious issues now, and it is only surgery we can perform to help him out. The stabs damaged a few things in his system, and there is a complication he has had for quite some time now, and if it is left untreated, it’ll get worse, and reduce his lifespan. So, you’ll need to make payment and sign the consent form.” The doctor explained and then handed over the consent form to Charles. “Here are the payment details as well.” Charles checked it out and he felt grateful that he could solve two problems at once. The payment required for the surgery to commence was five million dollars. It would save Mr. Thompson’s life and then accomplish his task. Charles hurried up to the reception and made payment immediately, then Mr. Thompson’s surgery commenced, leaving Charles and the others who just got to the hospital, waiting desperately at the hallway. CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED A TASK AND HAVE THEREFORE BEEN AWARDED FIVE POINTS. Charles continued to pace around, hoping for the best for Mr. Thompson. If the system could grant him a healing ability, he would have requested for it, and walked right into the surgery room to heal Mr. Thompson. Then the glory would be given to the doctors as it would seem like a successful surgery. Suddenly, the surgery doors opened and Charles rushed to meet the doctor. “Doctor, how was it?” He asked desperately. But Charles couldn’t tell what the situation was as the doctor looked neither sad or happy about it.
