Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 146

On getting home, Charles loosened his tie, and sat on the sofa. Because he didn’t get a solution or an answer to what he experienced last night, he cancelled all the meetings he had today. Then Martha brought him a bottle of wine, and a wine glass. He was really troubled with what happened because he knew what happened to him was blindness and not dizziness. What was even more frustrating was that all the hospitals he went to today, were the best hospitals in the city. Then the doorbell rang, and Martha went to get the door. James walked in, and met Charles drinking. He had come over because he heard of Charles cancelling all his meetings. “Is there anything wrong?” He asked out of concern as he got closer to Charles. Charles looked up at him, and sighed as he gulped down the wine in his wine glass. “I heard you cancelled all meetings you had today. I get that, that could happen, but seeing you drink is giving me this vibe like something is going on.” James spoke, getting more concerned. “I went to various hospitals today, and it didn’t go so well.” Charles finally spoke, and then he poured in more wine for himself. “Hospitals? Why? Is something wrong?” James asked, inquisitively. Then Charles sat up, and exhaled sharply. “Last night, I was at the dining table, eating, and then my sight went blank all of a sudden. I went blind for about five to six seconds. I swear it. So, I went to a hospital, and a few tests were conducted, but they said nothing is wrong with my eyes. I couldn’t take that, so I went to more hospitals, but the results were the same.” James was surprised, and didn’t know the exact words to say, but he knew Charles needed to hear some assuring words. Whoever was in that situation would certainly need an assurance that nothing was wrong. “Well, I think the doctors are right. If you had an eye problem, one of the many specialist doctors you went to see, would have spot it. Your eyes going blank might have reacted to something which we don’t know about now, but the best thing you can do is to watch if it’s going to happen again.” “Hmm.” Charles sighed, reasoning what James had just spoken about. “But ensure you also have enough time to rest.” James advised, with concern expressed on his face. Charles felt better hearing these words as he now began to feel it could have been a one-time thing that happened, due to any reason. “Thanks. These words were really helpful. And I do hope it’s not a hidden big problem.” “Sure, boss. So, is there anything we need to get done since you have cancelled all meetings?” “Well, there might be.” Charles said as he rose to his feet, dipping both his hands into his pockets. Mr. Lincoln on the other hand was getting prepared for another meeting with Mr. Henry who is the man Charles and James set up to keep stalling Mr. Lincoln. He and Mr. Lincoln had not had any progressive meeting yet as Mr. Henry had told him he was still checking out some things, but today was meant to be the day they were to meet up to discuss something better. Mr. Lincoln’s phone rang as he picked up his briefcase, ready to head out to the restaurant which he and Mr. Henry had planned to meet at. He brought out his phone from his pocket, and smiled when he discovered it was Mr. Henry, calling. “Good morning, Mr. Henry.” “Good day, Mr. Lincoln. I do hope you are not on your way yet, because I’m sorry to disappoint you, a really important issue came up, and I have to settle it immediately. Let’s meet up next time.” Mr. Lincoln was quite disappointed and sad about the information, but he had no choice than to cover it up, and remain calm and patient. After all, it was only Mr. Henry that had a really enticing offer which is a rare one to come across. “Oh, it’s fine. Please take your time. We can always reschedule.” Mr. Lincoln responded with a smile which wasn’t from the bottom of his heart. As he hung up, he almost threw his phone on the bed frustratingly, but he decided to hold himself back. As a famous business man as he was, he wasn’t used to being tossed here and there. People were always willing to secure deals with him, and he was highly respected. His patience was beginning to run out, and the moment he lost it, he was capable of doing things which Mr. Henry would never expect. “I just hope that with all this patience I have exercised, something good comes out of it, or your life and pain would be the ransom to calm me down.” Mr. Lincoln muttered under his breath. Then he grabbed a drink from the bedside table, and poured it into a shot glass, and gulped it down in one go. He went through his call logs to call Sandra as he had not been able to speak to her since the time the network got so bad that it disconnected the call. But as he tried her number, it was unavailable. He didn’t want to worry much because he had something else to focus on, here, but the last conversation he had showed that they were in trouble. Troubled by that, he put a call through to one of his men. “Good day, sir.” “I need you to go over to my house to check on my family, and if they aren’t at home, go over to Sunrise Resort to ask of them. Whatever the results are, let me know immediately.” Mr. Lincoln instructed his man. “On it, sir.” He responded, and Mr. Lincoln hung up. He had it in mind to destroy that resort if it was that they held his family all because they couldn’t pay. “I don’t care who owns that resort, I will make sure it crumbles down.”
