Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 145

Charles fluttered his eyelids again to get the situation at hand, but this time, he could see again. He gasped, and leaned on the dining table, breathing heavily like he had just escaped something sorrowful. His whole body became weak as he had been agitated from the brief blindness that attacked him, but as his sight came back and his body released the whole agitation, he became weak. He moved away from the dining room, and walked up to his bedroom, then turned on the lights, and looked at his eyes in the mirror. There wasn’t any weird thing in his eyes, and in fact, it looked as normal as it used to look. “What the hell went on back there?” He muttered under his breath, squinting his eyes in bafflement. There was only one action he could take on after this, and that was none other than to see the doctor. ~ The next morning, Charles got dressed up after having his bath, then he walked down the stairs swiftly, and headed towards the door. “Good morning, sir. I prepared a little something for breakfast.” Martha informed, and then Charles looked in her direction. He was happy he didn’t allow Martha to make dinner for him last night, or he would have suspected that she did something to his food, and for the juice she gave him, he had watched her while she poured the juice into the glass cup. Charles sighed. “I have to run. Won’t be able to eat breakfast.” He said, then pulled the door knob down, and walked out of the house. His driver adjusted his suit as he sighted him, then opened the car’s door for him. “Thanks.” Charles appreciated him, then sat comfortably on the car seat. The driver then drove him off to the hospital. On getting to the hospital, Charles met a few people in line, while sitting, so he joined them, then brought out his phone to pass time. “How are the Lincolns doing? I hope they are doing their job as they ought to?” Charles texted the manager, and then began to browse over the internet. He checked on latest news about the Lincolns of how all of them had just secured new deals, and how they kept flourishing in their businesses each. Most investors wanted to invest in them as they saw them as fertile ground, and they knew how to deal with business. “Well, all these won’t go on for long.” Charles spoke in his mind, with a light smirk. Then he put a call through to Vera. “Good morning, Vera. I need you to ensure that the news of my acquiring two companies of my father, doesn’t get out to the public. I want him to find out, himself.” Charles instructed Vera. “Noted. I think you might have a business trip coming up very soon. Probably in two days.” Vera informed him. Charles clicked his tongue and then sighed. He wasn’t certain that he was ready for a business trip right now. “Let’s see how it goes.” “Sir, it’s your turn.” The nurse informed him. “Will talk to you later.” Charles said to Vera over the phone, then hung up. He rose to his feet, then followed the nurse into the doctor’s office. “Good day, Mr. Lincoln.” The doctor greeted him. “Good day, doctor.” He responded as he had his seat. Then the nurse left their presence, and Charles leaned closer. “I experienced something strange last night.” He spoke, with seriousness. “And what’s that?” “My eyes went blank for about five seconds. My eyesight was literally gone. I don’t understand.” Charles revealed to the doctor. “Have you been eating things you aren’t supposed to eat? Maybe allergies or sort, or did you hit your eyes hard, somewhere or some time?” The doctor questioned as he brought out his notepad. “None of these, doctor. Not even an injury close to my eyes.” Charles replied, looking worried. “Alright, you’ll need to be calm, Mr. Lincoln. We are going to conduct an eye test right now.” The doctor informed. He rose to his feet, and performed the basic test first, with a torch before moving on to special tests which was done in a laboratory.Charles had to wait a while before the results were out. “There is nothing wrong with your eyes, Mr. Lincoln.” The doctor concluded as he leaned against his chair. “Really? How can that be?” “Or probably you felt a bit dizzy or something.” “Look doctor. I’m not a kid. I know what I am saying. I wasn’t feeling dizzy. I went blind.” Charles raised his voice a little higher than his normal tone. He was beginning to get frustrated that the doctor couldn’t find anything wrong, and that gave him concerns. He was aware of people who have problems that can’t be detected by doctors, but he wasn’t ready to go home with such report, so he rose to his feet after grabbing his result from the table. “Thanks.” He voiced out, then walked out of the doctor’s office. He took the elevator down to the ground floor as he didn’t want to waste any more time. As he got into his car, and placed the result in a folder beside him. “Take me to another hospital.” He ordered his driver who responded immediately. When Charles got to the next hospital, the same tests were ran for him, and he got the same results as well. He didn’t stop at that hospital, and made his driver to drive him off to different hospitals. Even those whose tests were slightly different from the others still brought out the same results to Charles. “Shit!” Charles cursed out loud as he threw the folder of results against the car window at the other side. “Sir, do you feel you have a problem?” His driver asked, out of concern. Charles couldn’t bring himself to respond as he was filled with anger at the moment and didn’t want to lash out on him for asking when he shouldn’t. “I hope it isn’t something big I have to worry about.”
