Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 137

“And who are you, exactly, Mr. Andrews?” Tyson questioned, sneering at Charles. That was the moment Charles realized that he had overdone himself. Out of anger, he had pushed himself closer to suspicion. Any intelligent person would know that if a poor man could stand up to Tyson to yell if he knows who he was, then he must certainly have something he relies on. Charles lowered his eyes, then moved backwards a little. “I… I apologize, young master. I'm currently having a bad day.” “No, Andrews. Tell me, who are you? That's what I'm interested in.” Tyson questioned again, closing in on him. Right there, Charles’ tongue became crippled of words as he couldn't think of a convincing reason to let himself out of the suspicion zone. “Don't you have ears, Andrews? My son is speaking to you!” Sandra yelled from the dining. Charles glanced at the dining room and noticed that everyone's eyes were now on him. Some of them had this intrigued expression, while some were curious on how this was going to turn out. Only Sandra had an angry look on her face. “Shit! I hope this won't be the end of my work, here?” Charles thought to himself, feeling deep regrets for acting out without thinking. “I'm… I'm a gardener in the Lincoln's home.” He uttered in a way everyone would hear me. Then Charles heard laughter from everyone at the dining room, except Sandra, obviously. “Sandra, you have a talented and funny gardener. You really are lucky. Always getting the good things.” A man spoke, and chuckled. “If you don't want him anymore, just toss him over to me. I have so much use for him.” A woman amongst them, voiced out as well. Then Sandra burst into a light laughter, covering her mouth in modesty. “How could I throw away such gem. He's still ours, Jennifer.” She said to the woman and then turned to Charles. “Apologize to Tyson, regardless of the funny scene you wanted to make.” She snapped, and then Charles turned to Tyson. “I'm truly sorry, young master. Forgive me.” Charles apologized, and Tyson nodded his head while moving his mouth like he would still get back to him.“Leave my sight.” He ordered, then sat on the sofa, staring at Charles with disgust. Charles knew that it wasn't going to end there, but he was probably acting calm due to the visitors his mother had. After a few hours, Sandra escorted her visitors out while Tyson came to meet Charles who was eating at the backyard with the maid. “Come over here, Andrews. I need you to do a particular work for me.” Tyson urged him, and Charles felt a bit infuriated as he was disturbed in his rest time. But he had no choice than to answer to his call. After going on that particular errand, it wasn't up to twenty minutes before Carlos who had just come back from work, ordered him to do something as well. They kept ordering him around like it was all planned, and he had no choice than to do their bid. Apart from doing their bid, they still talked down at him so many times. Days passed and this intense battle continued. Charles was getting fed up of the whole situation, but his determination was the only thing fueling him to keep holding on. On one bright day, Mr. Lincoln called his family to a meeting at the living room while Charles was cleaning the dining room. “Uhm… What I'm about to tell you actually came on short notice. I'm traveling in the next one hour for the contract which I've been talking about for a while now.” Mr. Lincoln revealed, and Charles’ heart jumped in joy as James had finally hooked his father. “Whoa! Honey, you're so lucky and favored. I'm so happy for you. Now, I don't care if it's on short notice. Just do what's best.” Sandra said and hugged him happily. “Tch! As I keep saying, enjoy it while it lasts. You all look so happy now, but when I'm done with you, you'll feel twice the pain my mother felt when she was alive.” Charles spoke with certainty in his heart. After an hour, the family saw Mr. Lincoln off to the airport with Charles, holding a few things for them. When they got back, he served them a few snacks and drinks to relieve them from what the hot sun had drained from them. “So, mom, we're going for that dinner party they invited us to, right? I need to make some connections there. I heard a lot of influential people would be coming over.” Tyson asked, looking quite excited. “Of course we are. And I do hope you'll find yourself a suitable wife soon, rather than dating around.”“Mother, let's not talk about this yet. There are other things I need to do apart from marriage. When I'm ready, I'll introduce a lady to you.” Tyson said as he picked up his drink and gulped it down. “Hey, get me another drink.” He ordered Charles who so much wished he could ignore him. Charles moved closer to him and then went to fill his glass cup again before giving it to him. “You should also pressure Carlos to get married. He's the older one and ought to have been married.” Tyson said, trying to drift the focus to his brother. Carlos gave him a weird look and then faced his mother who was already looking at him. “Mom, you should know I'm actually trying to create a big name for myself first, before thinking of marriage. My reason is still reasonable.” Carlos spoke, then returned to tapping the keys on his laptop. Sandra sighed and connected the heel of her palm to her forehead. She hoped that just as they said, they would get married, and that's why she was also trying her best to pave a way for them quickly. “So, what time do you think we should leave, mom?” Carlos asked while he was still busy on his laptop. “7pm sharp. A lot of things should have started by then.” Sandra replied, with a smile. “Andrews, you'll have to stay a little longer until the maid is back from where we sent her to.” “Perfect. Now, this is my cue.” He thought to himself.
