Revenge of the Rejected
The employees were taken aback. Why was Charles suddenly annoyed? He had been a little impatient earlier, but not mad. Also the mini-robot had detected it when his mood switched to a sad one. "Sir. Um, we'd like to know what made you mad all of a sudden. Did we displease you in any way?" The leader asked, with his hands held in front of him. Charles inhaled, and exhaled, his expression softening, then looked at the robot. He studied it for a while, then nodded. "The mini-robot is good." He commented, but they didn't know if they were to feel good or not. "You're not… you're not angry with us about anything?" The leader asked, still with his hands politely clasped together. "No, that was just a trick. I'm not mad at you for anything. Rather, I'm a little impressed. So, I think this little man can really detect emotions, but it won't last more than five minutes." He informed them, and the leader scratched his neck. "Actually, that was… uh…" He began, but didn't know how to complete his words. He knew that they hadn't focused on the duration of its effectiveness. They had only worked on its abilities. "In that case, I'll need you to work better on it. It's a really nice tech product, so I want to be guaranteed it won't fail. We can't bring out a product which would get many complaints, can we? We have to do our best." He added, and they all nodded, looking determined. "We will try our very best, sir, and will increase the duration of its effectiveness. Do you perhaps have a certain time frame in mind?" The leader asked, but Charles shook his head immediately. "Make it last for as long as you can make it. It needs to be reliable." Charles replied, getting to his feet. "Alright. So…" He began, then turned, so he was facing them all. They all straightened up, not wanting to seem bent or out of shape. "I will need each of the three teams to come up with a new idea for a new tech project." He announced, and waited for it to sink in. " A new tech project? By what time should we have come up with the idea? The deadline?" A female among them asked. "Two weeks." Charles replied. "Two weeks." The leader muttered in reply. "In two weeks time, each of the teams would have a new idea for a new tech project." The leader assured Charles with a determined look in his eye, and Charles nodded slowly. When the meeting was done, he, and Vera left the room immediately for their next schedule. "So…what's next?" "We're going to check…" She began, as she opened a document where she had outlined all of Charles' schedules. "Let me guess. Mrs. Adam's lost company?" He asked, with a sneer, and Vera chuckled. The robot must have really impressed him for him to joke about the company he took from Mrs. Adams. "Yes. Yes, we're going to check it out. So, how well did you like the robot?" She asked, as they walked into the elevator. "It was quite impressive, and sensitive too." He replied, pressing the button for the down floor. "That's the main thing it needs. Sensitivity. So…" "The design is nice, and I just liked the robot. They really put a lot of work into it. They're hard working. I'm expecting the robot to be a big shot the moment it is out." Charles added, placing his hands into his pocket. "That's what I thought too. If they can really work on what you asked them to, I think all would be fine." Vera replied. "Oh, yeah, back to the schedule." Charles recalled, snapping his thumb, and middle finger together. "It's not much. We're just going there to check on things. Staff punctuality, productivity, sales, and stuff like that. It shouldn't drain you much." She replied, and Charles looked at him watch. "Well, let's end it quickly." He replied, stepping out of the the elevator. Their shoes tapped on the tiled floor, as they made their way to the door, and the employees they encountered, greeted Charles with smiles. They got into Charles' car, and Vera drove while Charles closed his eyes to have a little rest. When they got to their destination, Vera tapped him slowly on his arm, and he opened his eyes. "I wasn't sleeping." He said immediately, and Vera almost scoffed. "Yes, you weren't." She replied, taking off her seatbelt. "You don't believe me, do you?" He shot back, unfastening his. "Of course, I do." She pushed open the door, stepping out. "I was somewhere between dreams, and reality. I wouldn't doze off before meeting with people." He argued, also stepping out, and Val chuckled, as she walked round the car. They walked into the company, and the employees all greeted them as they saw them. Charles went to his office, and had the manager come into his office. "Alright where is the sign-in book?" He asked, and the manager who came in prepared, handed him the book. "Here, Sir." Charles ruffled through the pages, checking for unusual sign-in times, or times that didn't correlate with each other. Luckily, he didn't find any, they were all punctual. They went over more important details like the productivity, income, and expenditure, and lastly, Charles asked for the sale records. "I'll bring that." The manager said, bowing, and left Charles office. "Shouldn't he have brought that also? He prepared all these, but forgot the sales records?" Vera asked, looking at the door which the manager had gone though. "It must have skipped his mind. After all, he prepared a lot of documents." Charles replied, leaning back in his seat. Not too long, the manager returned with the sale records book, and handed it to him with a bow. Charles took it from him, and opened it, going through it thoroughly, more than he had gone through other documents. And thanks to his through checking, he was able to spot some weird things that pointed out the fact that a case of embezzlement was going on.
