Revenge of the Rejected
That night, Charles called James over to his house for a brief meeting. “Good evening, boss. What's the update?” James asked as he sat on the couch opposite the sofa which Charles was sitting on. “There's this idea which sparked up in my head when I overheard my father and his wife, speaking.” Charles spoke, and James drew closer to listen keenly to what Charles had to say. “I’m all ears, boss.” “It seems my father needs a contract which has enough potential for him to jump on. More like he is in need of a certain amount of money within three months.” Charles continued as he interlocked his fingers. “Okay, boss. So, where do we come in from here?” James asked inquisitively and ready to execute whatever role he had to play. “I need you to disguise as a business man, and offer him a 30 million dollars contract deal. But you will be taking him out of the country. Let's say, Paris.” “Whoa! This seems so intriguing.” James spoke, feeling elated to hop on this mission. He had failed his last mission and disappointed Charles, but this time, he was eager to make up for what had happened the last time, and even resolved in his heart that he wasn't going to let anyone distract him. “Alright, so from tomorrow, send him a text, and then to make things more believable, you can go on to making video calls as well.” “Okay, that's cool. In no time, he would fall for my tricks. So, all I need to do is to make him believe that this contract deal is real, and then when it's time, will bring him over to Paris, which means I would have to go on a trip to Paris.” “Yes, exactly. But we're going to make this contract deal, real. We'll just find a way to topple him over when the right time comes.” Charles said, and James nodded approvingly. As soon as they were done making their plans, which also included him transferring 30 million dollars to James' account to complete his task, the system congratulated Charles and rewarded him with points. Then James rose to his feet to leave, and on his way out, he met Vera who was just coming in. “Hello Vera.” He greeted her, and she responded as well before James left. Vera walked in and sat on the couch as Charles offererd her a seat.“So, what's the report, Vera?” “Business has been good. All companies are doing fine, but we'll need your presence tomorrow, Charles.” “At where?” “At our newly founded company. They are launching the first prototype. And you'll be needed to test it out to give a go ahead on it or not.” Vera informed, and Charles exhaled softly. “Well, I guess I'll have to come up with something that would excuse me from going to my father's home to work, then.” “I guess so. By the way, how has the progress been?” Vera inquired, and Charles leaned back on the sofa after sighing. “It has been more like a pain on the neck, actually. But James and I are now working on something which I believe will turn out to be progressive.” Charles responded. Vera smiled a little, and then rose to her feet. “That's good news, then. So, I'll be expecting you at the company tomorrow. After checking out the prototype, you might need to visit the Adams' company which you took over.” “Oh, that's true. It's been a while since I last visited.” “Yes. I visited there three days ago and they're doing well, following the policy you laid down, but the presence of the CEO need to be felt sometimes.” Vera advised, politely. “You're right. I guess my tomorrow is going to be a busy day.” “Affirmatively.” “Alright, have a safe journey back home.” “You should also rest well ahead of tomorrow.” Vera walked out of his home, and Charles was left alone with his maid who had just come to clear the table. He had not set time apart to watch her and observe how she does her things, but he could tell she was good, judging from the way she had been taking care of the house while he was really busy. He rose to his feet and headed upstairs, dragging his feet sluggishly. As he got to his bed, he shut his eyes, ready for mother sleep to charm him. The next day, Charles woke up to Vera's call. She just reminded him that he had a busy day, and here was Charles, almost sleeping in. The first thing he did was to send a text to Sandra, telling her that he fell terribly sick and would like to be given a day off. Judging from Sandra's ugly personality, he knew she wouldn't be pleased by his sudden request to take a day off, so he turned off that particular phone off to avoid calls from her. He got up from bed, then had his bath, dressed up and was now ready to head out to his company. Vera was already waiting in the sitting room and as soon as she sighted him, she rose to her feet and they both walked out of the house, and got into the car. On getting to his company, his workers all greeted him while he strode to the elevator, heading to the meeting room where his tech pros were all waiting for him. “Good say, boss.” They all greeted him, and he nodded in response to their greeting. “So, what do we have here? I'm here to see the prototype and how well you've been doing in my absence.” Charles spoke, and one of them stood up, and presented the mini robot to him. Charles admired the sleekness and how professional it looked. One could tell that they used the best products to make this, and Charles was convinced that it would work out just the way they intended for it to work. “You know what? I want you all to divide into three teams. Let's have a contest.” Charles announced.
