Revenge of the Rejected
Charles got to the bottom of the stairs, and was wondering what his next action should be. If he had brought his phone along, he would have dialed James’ number, and his security guards as well. “How did they break into my house? They must be experts at this for them to have achieved this.” He thought to himself. Then he saw the shape of something sitting on the center table. He couldn’t make out what it was exactly, but he noticed there were other things there. He slowly found his way to the switch, and when he did, he turned on the light. “Surprise!” Vera and James voiced out together. Charles was dumbfounded, and still couldn’t believe his eyes. He never expected James and Vera to come to his home to throw a surprise party or whatever they intended to do right now. It was even more surprising to have Vera do this as well. “You both had me there. What’s the surprise for?” Charles asked, out of curiosity. “Well, you’ve been working a lot, lately. So, we decided to throw a small party between us three, and take a little rest from the whole tensed work.” Vera explained smartly. “Wow. Well, I could make use of the nice vibe.” Charles smiled, and joined them in the sitting room. The things he saw on the center table, but could not make any meaning of what they were, were two bottles of wine, wine glasses, and a cake. He sat down comfortably to dine and wine with them, and the mood was set. Vera filled everyone’s wine glass with wine, and they all cheered happily. “Here’s to a long-term work, and cheers to sticking together, regardless of whatever happens.” Vera voiced out, and they cheered. They all continued having wine, and eating the cake with so much joy. To Charles, they were really important, and he hoped that the bond that brought them together, would still be there always, and stronger every day. The trio had a no-work time until it was a bit late when they headed back home. Charles laid on his bed with a smile on his face. It had been long since he had something this close to fun, and wasn’t related to business. He closed his eyes in satisfaction, and didn’t know when he drifted off to sleep. The next day, Charles got ready. He was surprised, and commended James’ diligence. Despite the little fun they had in his house last night, he was still able to arrange a few house managers who all looked capable to manage his house properly. They all sat down, and Charles nodded his head in approval as he glanced at them all. “Good job.” He commended James who was beside him. “Thanks boss.” James responded happily. Charles conducted a test for the house managers, and out of all of them, only three passed his tests excellently, but he preferred to choose the oldest among them who also looked really experienced. “Alright, so Mrs. Daniels, your room is over there, and I need you to take good care of this home while I’m around, and when I’m not. Here is the list of do’s and don’ts.” Charles informed her, and handed over the list to her. “Alright, sir. I will see to it that this house stays just the way you want it.” Good. I’ll be going to work now.” Charles uttered, then walked out of his house with James by his side. They got into the car, and James handed over an I.D card to him. “So, this is your new identity when you’re working at the Lincoln’s tech company.” “Okay, looks perfect. Andrews Jacob. The name sounds a bit boring, but I can do with it. What matters most is getting what I want, from them.” “Exactly, boss. So, I have retained a position as a lawn mower for you. All you need to do now is to change your appearance.” James informed. Charles pulled off his shirt, and put on something which looked really casual, and cheap, then he put on a moustache, and a fake eyebrow. “Wow. Just this little touch, and you already look like someone else. Not just someone else, but like someone really in need of a job, and a changed life.” James chuckled, forgetting that he was speaking to his boss. Charles cleared his throat to jolt him back to his senses, and James straightened up his back, and smiled lightly. Soon, they got close to the company, and Charles instructed the driver to halt. “So, I’ll get down from here, and walk up to their company to resume work.” Charles notified, and James nodded. Charles got down from the car to complete his disguise. It would have been a total waste if he had parked the car in front of the company, and still pretended to be one of a lowly status. It would enable whoever was going to dig on him, to find out something fishy. He walked a five-minute distance to the company, and then entered. He stood and watched the lobby, and how everyone was busy going about their business. “Soon, this company will crumble down to sand, and I will plant a new control over here. Just watch and see, father.” He said, under his breath. Then he moved on to the receptionist for directions and explanation of the process to finally resume work. After he was done with all processes, and had been recognized as a worker there, he started his work. He began to trim the grasses to maintain the shape that was made. “Hey, I’m Simon.” One of the lawn mowers introduced himself with a smile as he walked up to Charles. “I’m Cha…” Charles paused as he was about to give away his identity so quick. “I’m Andrews.” He rephrased with a smile. “Nice name.” “Thanks.” “By the way, I’ve been watching you trim those grasses, but you really don’t seem like a lawn mower. Spill it out, you’re under disguise, isn’t it?” Right there, Charles’ heart skipped a beat in fear that he had been caught so soon. And what got him more anxious is what Simon would do with the information he just found out.
