Caught Between Two Alphas

Chapter 242 When A Man Betrays His Brothers, Even An Enemy Would Not Trust Him

SCARLET’S POV I am glad to see that Dawn is looking better today. When she was brought back yesterday she was in a deplorable state and I could not restrain myself from crying when I saw her. Who could ever believe that a father would do such to his daughter? I suffered the same fate in his hand but he never tried to kill me, at least not with his own hands. But back then, it was so obvious that he would not lift a finger if I was to be on the verge of death. My little sister would have been sacrificed to some blood-thirsty beast if Landon had not arrived at Diamond Cut Pack when he did. What would have become of me, how would I live a single day with the guilt of knowing that I could not protect my sister that had returned home with me? If as a queen my sister dies under my watch who then can I protect? My blood was boiling and I felt like shredding the duo into pieces. Mildrid, and sir Tim, they don’t deserve any form of mercy. Not from me, not from anyone. As I gazed at them, I so much wanted my eyes to turn into acid and melt them to dust. It is even more annoying to see the lack of remorse in them. They stood there gallantly with their heads held high. Not to worry, they are yet to find out what was coming for them. Today I will preside over this. Alpha Fred and the other alphas should sit and watch. Today it has to do with my sister and no one can do this better than me. I can see the fury in Landon as he stood beside Dawn and the weeping ma Patricia. Of course, now she would weep as it has to do with her dearly beloved daughter. I couldn’t stop myself, but her tears made me despise her more. I stood up from my throne and looked at each of the faces of everyone in the crowd. There is sir Tim and with him is the witch, Mildrid. And a little distance from them at the corner of the hall were the almost lifeless bodies of Carl and Hedrick. On the opposite side is Dawn standing between Landon and the would-not stop crying ma Patricia. Standing just close to them is Sam and by his side is Gina. He should be my brother but I’ve got no sibling but Dawn. Also, a little distance from sir Tim are the remaining zombies of Mildrid and sir Tim and they are all in chains. There are about thirteen of them. And the rest are some of the people of Diamond Cut, all here to witness the event of today. And now to the podium, I have here with me Lalic, the Chamlee, and Lord Nathan. Also, with us are the three alphas together with their betas. Now to Beta Robert, I cannot explain how it felt to see him again after such a long time. He is one of those that kept me sane during my days at Black Moon Pack. I had my veil over my face the whole morning, never intending to pull it off. I don’t think there is any need to come out open to them. They don’t deserve to know my true identity and I don’t mind remaining a mystery to them forever. Sir Tim seeing me on my feet rushed over to Dawn and dragged her to the center of the large hall. Landon wanted to stop him, but I signaled him not to. Things can go sir Tim’s way for now and at the end of the day, I will say what punishment befits him. He is already condemned even without having to make a case for himself. “This is the girl, she is a traitor. Even though she is a daughter whom I love so much, it doesn’t mean that I would have to cover her guilt” he said. Dawn kept her face down the entire time and refused to look in my direction. I know she is silently begging that I look with pity upon her father but that can't happen today because today, he is going to meet his father, and the fathers before him. “Let her go” I requested. Sir Tim was adamant and did not agree to my request rather he urged. “She is a traitor, my queen, and deserves to be shown no mercy” I heaved. I don’t know how he did it, but he has succeeded at getting on my nerves and I am fighting really hard to contain myself. “I already said to let her go” I insisted. “My queen, when a man betrays his brothers, even an enemy would not trust him. I know that she fought alongside your land during the war, but we are one now and she can't be left to live among us. She has shown that she is not a person to exalt loyalty” he persisted. “She said you let her go, Tim, why do you choose to remain adamant?” alpha Fred got up in anger and yelled at him. He was about to go over to beta Tim in his angry state but I waved at him to stop and return to his seat which he did. “I am sorry, my alpha, I am truly sorry to refuse you but in this Pack, we must promote some level of decorum and patriotism,” sir Tim said. “Shut up” I yelled at him. Lord Nathan got up furiously to go deal with sir Tim, but I stopped him. “Let him be, lord Nathan” I requested and he bowed and returned to his seat.“And when did the rogues begin to have a say among us?” the witch’s voice was heard. Hearing the words of the witch lord Nathan started to fume but I asked him to relax because I am going to take proper care of this. “I say Dawn is innocent and no one dares to hold anything against her,” I said to sir Tim and completely ignored the witch. She of all people should know not to speak until she is spoken to. “B... but... you can't... you... can't do that, my... queen. She betrayed her own Pack. She can't live... freely among us. She is an outcast and so must die” sir Tim stammered. This is even more than I had anticipated. He is really bent on doing away with his daughter. For the witch, he is ready and eager to lose his daughter even while on the verge of losing his two favorite sons. Right now, I wouldn’t be surprised if he seek to do away with all the members of his household, even his most precious wife, ma Patricia. “I am the law, and I say who is guilty and who is not. On the contrary, Dawn here is a hero here as she fought for what she believes in” I said. Immediately after the words left my mouth, there were murmurs among the people. “Fighting against her people can never be what she believes in” sir Tim challenged. I clenched my fist in anger, who the heck is sir Tim to challenge and question my words? Nonetheless, I went on. “Dawn, you can speak for yourself” I ordered. She opened her mouth to speak, but looking at her father, she hesitated and closed her mouth again. “You see, she has no word to say in her defense. The fact is glaring, there speak for themselves” sir Tim boasted. “Speak, Dawn, you have no right to remain silent” I commanded. I know that for her father, she would rather admit guilt before me but there is no way that I will allow her to do that. “My queen, it is true that I fought against my people” she stopped. “Now tell us why you had to fight against your people,” I demanded. However, my request was met with silence. I should have known this was going to be hard. Dawn has always been shown love by her father and so it would be almost impossible for her to turn against him even when it is obvious that he desires to end her life. But then, I wouldn’t want to appear autocratic to my subjects. I don’t mind being seen as such for the sake of Dawn, but now that there is a good reason to acquit her, I must do well to make such reason known to all. So in a bid to fully explain my stand, I asked her again. “Or were you forced?”
