DAWN’S POV We were still waiting to get a response from the guard when suddenly we heard a loud thud followed by the jerking of our carriage. This time, the effect was greater than when our carriage had stopped unceremoniously. We saw ourselves flying in the air and landing on ourselves. If not that Scarlet was fast enough to grab us and stop us from hitting our faces and bodies on the carriage we would all be seriously wounded. The driver and the guard both tried to rush over to us from the front, and in the process, they both squeezed themselves as they were each struggling to be the first to get to us. “My Chamlar... my Chamlar” they called as they tried to find their way to us. First, it was the blockage, and now an attack on our carriage. My wolf was already on alert and was fighting to take over. But I cannot allow it, I will have to wait for Scarlet to react first. “And what just happened?” Scarlet asked after everywhere became a little calm. When they saw that everything was fine and none of us were injured they stopped struggling to get to us. “My Chamlar...” The guard began to speak but then our door was forced open before he could go on. Scarlet quickly whispered to us. “Don’t act, wait for me first” “My Chamlar, are you okay...” a voice called out in panic. We saw a head pop in and discovered that it was lord Nathan. As soon as the door opened, I felt the bite of chilly air settle into my bones as a result of the cold from outside. I clenched my fist and held my mouth tight. The cold outside is killing. “Lord Nathan” Scarlet muttered. We were all relieved, at least for the one part, that we are not under an attack. “Yes, my queen. Please we are sorry. The driver couldn’t see through the snow and he didn’t realize that a signal was already sent until it was too late. Colliding into you was never intentional” lord Nathan explained He looked all over Scarlet's body to see if she had sustained any injury as a result of the collision. “I am okay, lord Nathan, what is it about the blockage ahead?” Scarlet asked.“My lady...” lord Nathan was about to speak but was interrupted by someone. “My queen, what just happened? I heard a loud sound from over here. There is a blockage ahead and I was thinking...” it was the Chamlee that had appeared. “I am fine, my Chamlee, it was just a little collusion with the other carriage” Scarlet responded. The Chamlee exhaled and then noticed lord Nathan. “Lord Nathan” he called. “Chamlee” lord Nathan responded. “What is it with the blockage ahead?” he inquired. “The two guys on foot ahead came to inform us of it. But there was no one in sight. Not sure if they are undercover to conceal their presence in the meantime” Chamlee replied. “Then we must send some men to survey the area. Everywhere have to be uncovered” lord Nathan said. He turned to Scarlet and said. “You remain here, my queen, I will go look around and see who dares to attack us” “And me too, we would be back soon,” the Chamlee said and the both of them walked into the snow. “I will climb down and take a look around,” Scarlet informed us after some time. “But you don’t have to, they have already gone to check it out” I persuaded. “I will be around the carriage. I won't wander far off” she assured me. “But the cold” I replied. “I am a white wolf, Dawn,” she said and climbed down of the carriage. I am a wolf too and should not feel this much cold, but it has been ages that I have been in a cold as much as this. It is practically freezing out here. Nevertheless, if we should get the issue of the blockage taken care of, we will be out of the east pretty soon. I can't wait to feel some rays of the sun. “We will go join the Chamlar” Kendra informed me. “Are you sure you both can handle the cold?” I asked. I was amazed by their willingness to go out in the cold. “Sure, we can. It is nothing that we cannot handle. Or maybe we would shift to our wolves” she responded. They stood up and walked away leaving just me and the driver. After a while, I decided to join them. After all, I am a beta wolf and has got some skills to take care of situations such as this one. I should be able to uncover this.Having made up my mind, I informed the driver. “Sir, I will be out. Let’s take look around with the Chamlar” “Oh... sure” he murmured. Immediately after I set my foot outside, my cheeks became red due to the high concentration of cold air. I tucked my hands beneath my arms and began to survey the area for signs of Scarlet and the rest. It was not easy to see ahead due to the fogs surrounding the atmosphere. But I continued to move around and soon I found them walking ahead to the area where the blockage was done. I followed behind them and with my feet lagging due to the high level of snow coverage I dragged myself along. I caught up with them when they are already at the area of the blockage, and Scarlet was discussing with two of the guards. I walked closer to the blockage and began to inspect it. It was a big log of wood and some sharp-edged irons hidden in front of it used to demarcate the road. A passerby might be lucky to notice the wood before running into it but would not notice the hidden iron on the other side of the road. So when trying to avoid the wood, he runs into the iron and would be unable to move on. On further investigation, I saw that just after the wood and the iron is a carefully dug pit set as a hidden trap. I believe the trap is for those on foot. It does not look deep from a distance but standing in front of it, one can tell that it is over ten feet and would be impossible for anyone caught by it to escape. Now the only solution would be to take an alternative route since we cannot lay hold on any of the perpetrators of this. The other route is longer, but it is safer and more convenient because should we decide to abate this blockage, we would spend a couple of extra hours and time is a luxury that we can't afford right now. I returned and stood beside Scarlet. She was still discussing with the guards. At the moment it was as if the cold was increasing so I had to hold my teeth tightly against each other. “My Chamlar, we are not yet sure if this was set up for us. Right now we can't say for how long this has existed” the guard said. “I hope it is not but that doesn’t save whoever is responsible for this. General Rich sent some men ahead, where are they? They must have seen this, right” she asked him. “They are required to go all the way to Diamond Cut, my Chamlar, and I can't say why they allowed this here. I don’t think this was set up today so there is a great chance that they must have seen it” he replied. “Or maybe they were caught by it and the captors have taken them away” she pointed out.“That should be another explanation, my queen. The only problem is that those sent are among our best soldiers and cannot be easily captured” he replied. As they were deliberating, we heard a voice from afar. A man was running to us and waving his hands in the air continuously. I cannot make out the words of the man, but he seems to be calling on the Chamlar as I could hear echoes of the word Chamlar or something close to it. “You ladies should remain behind me” she ordered.
