Caught Between Two Alphas

Chapter 158 The Ultimate Sacrifice

LARA’S POV Scarlet arrived with lord Nathan and we led the witch, Eval to the Chamlee’s chamber. I sincerely hope that this will be the last time we would get someone to heal the Chamlee. I pray this witch is as good as they describe her. Healing the Chamlee will bring great joy to our land, it will make Scarlet overjoyed. It will crown our victory against Diamond Cut Pack. It will be more than anything that we could ever ask for. We arrived at the Chamlee’s chamber and saw that he was soundly asleep. He was not even aware of our presence. The witch walked over to his side and took a look at him. She sighed and shook her head. Seeing the reaction of the witch, Scarlet became anxious and rushed to her. “What is the matter, my lady? Please tell me that my Chamlee would be fine. I don’t mind going in his stead” Scarlet asked in a panic. “Please remain calm, my Chamlar, I still have to take a proper look at the Chamlee in order to ascertain the real cause of his state of health and why it is rejecting every remedy,” the witch responded. I exhaled. I hope there is hope. I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The witch bent close to the Chamlee and started to touch his body while humming softly to herself. LORD NATHAN’S POV What if she is unable to do anything, how will my Chamlar take it? However, I refuse to dwell on the thought of such a possibility. I was tensed, afraid that something might go wrong and my Chamlar would hurt herself. She has gone paranoid. I don’t blame her at all, not in the least. I know just how much the Chamlee means to her. I know that the Chamlee is only in this condition because of her. What else can I do, what else can be done if the witch should fail to heal the Chamlee? Chamlar is not herself anymore. She hovered around the witch, waiting for her to say something. It definitely will be a long wait. The witch was focused on the Chamlee, constantly moving from one part of his body to the other and touching every part of it. She leaned close to the Chamlee and spoke some words that were barely audible into his ear and then the Chamlee sneezed. He opened his eyes, looked around everyone in the room as if he was in some trance, and then went back to sleep. It was a great sight to behold. His eyes were not weak as they have always been. They were strong and focused. They were sharp and for a moment I had expected him to say something and get up. Even the Chamlar was amazed. She almost wanted to jump on the Chamlee but before she knew it, he was back to sleep. “He... he just...” the Chamlar stuttered, pointing to the Chamlee. “Hush... no noise. There is already a lot of it where he is now” the witch whispered. “Where... where is he?” the Chamlar sobbed quietly. I walked up to her and placed my hands on her shoulders. “Be calm, my Chamlar. Your Chamlee will be alright” In response, the Chamlar could only sob and nod her head while looking at the Chamlee. He will be fine, I can see it. He is no longer as white as he has always been. Now there are some traces of blood on him. He looks a little more lively in just this short time that the witch has been here. The witch continued with her act and did not bother herself with us anymore. She was focused and occasionally whispered in the ears of the Chamlee. And each time she does so, he moves a part of his body. RICH’S POV I held on to Lara’s hand. I know just how much this means to her. It has to do with her friend, our friend, Scarlet. She has been through so much and each time it seems as if she has comfortably pulled through, a tragedy would hit, a calamity always greater than the former. But the witch seems to be getting this right. Maybe I was wrong anyway, maybe we were will wrong about her. I was reluctant to lead the troop to her but seeing all that Scarlet has put in place to protect us from any possibility of the greed of the witch, I have to agree and bring her here. Now I am glad I did. The Chamlee is getting livelier by the seconds. He is responding to the witch so well. Just now, he opened his eyes and looked at everyone. It was as if he wanted to say something to us but could not. He did not appear dull anymore, he looked so agile like someone that has never been sick. “He... he... he” Lara whispered. “He will be fine, can’t you see? It is like magic” I replied softly. “Yes... but it feels like he is calling out for help. He may not want her around him” Lara whispered. “No... no... Lara.. that is not so...” I reprimanded her. Just then, I looked up and saw that the witch had her eyes fixed on Lara and me, she must have heard us. I pulled Lara and led her out of the room. “I am sure about that, Rich. I don’t know why I feel this way but I have been with the Chamlee all this while and I have learned to read his body language alone” Lara said as soon as we arrived outside. “Didn’t you notice the tremendous improvement, Lara? You only allowed yourself to be clouded by your fear. You should be happy for the Chamlee, and also for your friend” I said. Lara forced a smile and replied. “I think you are right. I think I am already very exhausted” “Then we will wait here until they are done,” I said. SCARLET’S POV “He should be fine, but there is more to this” the witch announced. Her words came unannounced and it caused me to jerk. “You... you say?” I asked in fear. “I have done everything. And you can see for yourself that he is in a great trance. The spell was made to be irreversible. The fact that he is still alive till this time is beyond explanation” she replied. Just then, I looked at Landon, and he moved his gaze downwards, away from me. “But, he woke up... I saw him... just now. And he looked at me... at everyone” I said. I needed an explanation, this whole thing is getting even more confusing. My Chamlee is looking well already, what else is she talking about? “He desires to live, Chamlar” the witch responded. “Then make him live. Make him stay with me” I demanded.“It is not that easy, not as you think” she replied and cast her face downwards. “You talk, can’t you do anything?” I asked, confused. “For a life to be saved, a life must give way” she announced. A life... save... a life... give way... No... this must be what I am thinking. “What do you mean, what can be done?” I asked. She stared at my stomach with a little smirk. “You are with a child, my Chamlar” she replied.
