The Heiress Who Took Revenge

Chapter 652 The Hidden Villa

"Could it be... Matteo himself?" Lewis was the quickest to catch on, but nearby, Henry also felt something was amiss. "It’s Matteo. This whole thing has been a setup from the start. Matteo took Eliza and used us to aggressively offend those elders under Nathaniel. Those old men likely knew Nathaniel never intended for Matteo to succeed him. If Matteo had simply killed Nathaniel, it would have easily roused their suspicion. Besides, the people Nathaniel previously bribed aren't necessarily loyal; they're fair-weather followers. To unite them and make them truly submit, Nathaniel’s death had to be pinned on someone they wouldn't dare provoke. That person is Nolan." The Hartwell faction knew all too well that Nolan was not someone to be trifled with. They were left with no choice but to let Matteo take over, leading them to seek vengeance for Nathaniel. It was the only way to make his succession look legitimate. "Then where is Eliza now?" Colton frowned. "I’ve had my men search every property under Nathaniel’s name in the city center. We haven't found a trace of her." "Then she isn't in the city center." Nolan’s eyes grew dark and unreadable. "She’s at a villa under Matteo’s name." "Matteo shouldn't own any villas, should he? I heard Nathaniel kept a tight leash on him and never gave him any property. Matteo probably doesn't even have much money to his name." "The point is that it’s not a villa under Matteo's name, but one belonging to the Patrick family." "Weren't all the Patrick family properties seized by Nathaniel back then? Could it be... that Matteo simply left the Patrick villa off the list of known addresses, which is why we didn't find it?" Colton finally realized what was happening. No wonder they had scoured so many locations and checked every address on the notes provided without finding a glimpse of Eliza. It had been Matteo's plan all along. Matteo had never written down the real address where Eliza was being held. "Go investigate the villas and properties formerly owned by the Patrick family," Lewis commanded. "On it!" Colton didn't dare delay and immediately ordered his men to dig into the Patrick family’s old holdings. The Patricks had been famous philanthropists in their time, and they hadn't actually owned many private residences. However, because the Patrick family had been in the real estate business, they had once started developing a villa district on the outskirts of the city. The project was halfway through when the family met its tragic end. The project had been abandoned ever since. Once Nolan and the others received this information, they immediately sped toward that suburban villa district. There was a high probability Eliza was right there. Nolan drove with terrifying speed. Colton and Lewis watched the exhaust from his car, their expressions turning grim. Even though they were heading to the suburbs, Nolan was pushing the limit. "Slow down! I already sent my men ahead to scout. They’ll let us know the moment they have news." Colton tried to call Nolan to get him to ease up, but the line went dead. Lewis spoke up from the side. "It’s no use talking to him now. Eliza is the only thing in his head. He’s on the verge of losing it." They had seen Nolan’s state over the past few days. Even as brothers who had known him for years, they had never seen him like this. If anything truly happened to Eliza, they couldn't imagine the kind of madness Nolan would unleash. Soon, they arrived at the villa district. The area was eerily deserted. Colton’s men began searching the houses. Since there were only about thirty villas in the complex, the search wasn't particularly difficult. Nolan’s eyes immediately locked onto the house in the very center. While all the other yards were overgrown and barren, that single courtyard was filled with blooming roses. "She's here." Nolan ran toward the villa with absolute certainty, with Colton and Lewis right on his heels. Henry signaled his men to check the perimeter for any hidden ambushes while they rushed to the front of the rose-filled garden. With a powerful kick, Nolan slammed the villa door open. Up in the attic, Eliza heard the commotion from downstairs and her brow furrowed. Had Matteo run into some trouble today? Why was he kicking the door? Just as she was beginning to wonder, a shout of "Eliza!" shattered her thoughts. "Nolan... Nolan!" Eliza began frantically pounding on the attic door. Nolan heard the sound from above. Instantly, Colton and Lewis waved their men forward to break down the attic door.
