The Heiress Who Took Revenge

Chapter 636 The Abduction

Naomi said from the side, “I think he probably went to get the car. Mr. Hartwell, it looks like it's about time. Why don't we head to the parking lot and see?” “Alright.” Nathaniel nodded, clearly approving of Naomi's suggestion. Henry and Nolan said nothing. After the two had left, Nolan looked toward the back of the church. Henry teased him from the side, “Getting worried? Want to go check?” Nolan shook his head. He didn't want Eliza to think he didn't trust her. Henry and Nolan waited outside the church for a long time. Henry took a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and offered one to Nolan. He said, “When I was a kid, I never understood why adults smoked. I get it now.” As he exhaled a puff of smoke, Henry seemed to see his younger, reckless self through the haze. But they were adults now, not children. Seeing that a significant amount of time had passed, Henry finally looked at a staff member nearby. “Go to the back and see if he is still talking to Ms. Rivers.” “Yes.” The staff member quickly headed to the back of the church, but Nolan, however, felt something was wrong. They had been standing here for ten minutes. If Nathaniel and Naomi had noticed Matteo was missing, they should have come back by now. But there was no sign of them. Realizing something was wrong, Nolan quickly walked toward the back of the church. The staff member was also looking for Eliza and Matteo, but couldn't find a trace of either of them. Henry, following close behind, realized that both Eliza and Matteo were gone. The staff member came to Henry and said, “Sir, when I got here, I didn't see him or Ms. Rivers. Did they go somewhere else? Should I have people search?” “Then what are you still doing here? Hurry up and search!” Seeing Henry's dark expression, the staff member didn't dare to delay and quickly retreated to organize a search for Eliza and Matteo. Nolan, meanwhile, sprinted to the parking lot. Nathaniel's car was already gone. It seemed he had left. Henry ran to catch up to Nolan. “Don't panic. Matteo probably wouldn't do anything to Eliza.”Before she disappeared, Nolan had thought so too. But now, Eliza was gone. If it wasn't Matteo, Nolan couldn't think of any other possibility. “Have your men keep searching. I'm going after Nathaniel's car.” Nolan got directly into his car, called his men, and immediately headed in the direction of the Hartwell family residence. ... At the same time. Eliza groggily opened her eyes. Matteo hadn't hit her hard, so she had woken up midway. She realized she was in a car, heading toward the outer ring of the city. She didn't know how long she had been unconscious, but the funeral venue wasn't far from the Hartwell residence. If they were going there, they should have arrived long ago. The car was stuffy, and she was blindfolded, unable to see her surroundings. She could only feel the vehicle rocking; it was probably a van or something similar. Eliza hadn't expected Matteo to make a move on her. She asked tentatively, “Matteo? Is that you?” After a long moment, Matteo's voice came from the front. “Mn.” “Let me go!” “Are you joking, Ms. Rivers? I went to all this trouble to grab you, and now you're telling me to let you go? That's not very realistic, is it?” “We can still negotiate. There was no need to do this, was there?” “No.” Matteo gave a slight laugh. “Ms. Rivers, you're a person of strong principles. Since you already said you couldn't help me, I have to do this myself.” Eliza's mind raced. She quickly understood. He had grabbed her because she wouldn't let Nolan and Henry help him. But she didn't understand what Matteo's plan was. “It seems I went too easy on you before. To make sure you don't ruin my plans, I'm afraid you'll have to sleep a little longer.” After saying this, Matteo slammed on the brakes. Eliza felt herself thrown against the back of the seat. He stopped the van, opened the rear door, and pressed a towel over her nose. Eliza consciously held her breath, but Matteo seemed to have anticipated this. He pinched her waist hard. Eliza instinctively gasped, and the smell of ether quickly filled her nostrils.
