I Married My Boss... On a Blind Date

Chapter 1435 I Am Sorry

“I'm such a fool,” Morgan said mockingly. “You know, I originally planned to blow this place up, to kill Dexter, but I was afraid you wouldn't be able to bear such a sight. So, I used the pretext of the Securities and Exchange Commission to keep you confined in Wavery. Why did you come? Why did you come...” Dexter was gradually losing his strength, his complexion growing even paler. Josie stared intently at him, her heart racing wildly. “Because I don't want to see you make a mistake. It's not too late to back out.” A look of sorrow crossed Morgan's face. “It's too late. I have to admit that Dexter's strategies surpass mine. After I'm gone, you can entrust your life to him.” Even at that moment, he was still thinking about her. Morgan lifted the gun, pointing it at his own head, resolved to meet his end. Josie's expression shifted. “What are you doing?” “Morgan!” A male voice echoed. Ryan stood awkwardly behind Josie, a gun gripped in his hand. “If you dare to take your own life, I'll kill Josie. Go on, try me!”It was these words that made Morgan pause in his actions. “Ryan...” “Stay alive. We haven't hit rock bottom...” Ryan advanced toward Josie step by step. “Our people are gradually assembling. We won't lose to the Russell family! By taking them hostage, we can make our escape!” Dexter bit his lower lip hard, the pain jolting him into clarity. He rasped out, “I forgot to mention, there are plain-clothes police officers arranged by the Yowell family within a ten-mile radius.” After he finished speaking, he suddenly lunged at the unsuspecting Morgan, who tumbled to the ground, losing grip of his gun. Then, he swiftly stepped forward, raising his arm to strike Ryan in the face. As Ryan staggered backward, Dexter pushed Josie aside. Ryan's bullet missed its mark. When Josie got the opportunity, she caught sight of the now-empty crowd downstairs from the corner of her eye. She pressed a button forcefully. A loud noise echoed throughout the building as the floor beneath Morgan cracked open. He fell from the second floor and was no longer able to fight back. Pools of blood spread out in all directions. With the threat gone, plain-clothes police officers and medical staff rushed in immediately. While restrained, Ryan shouted, “Morgan!” “Are you out of your mind? He was armed! A single misfire could've killed you!” Josie, cradling the weakened Dexter on the ground, roared in anger. His actions from earlier had drained all his energy. He slowly shook his head. “I won't allow anyone else to use you as leverage against me, and I certainly can't bear the thought of anything happening to you. Leanne, I'm scared...” “You idiot...” Josie sobbed uncontrollably. “Doctor, hurry, he's been shot in the arm. Quickly bandage him up!” The doctor quickly stepped forward, providing him with basic medical treatment. Afterward, he was carefully placed on a stretcher and carried away. At last, Dexter could close his eyes in relief. Josie followed swiftly behind. “Dexter, please be all right...” She followed them all the way to the entrance, only then realizing the chaos outside. Salazar and the others had already been escorted into the police cars, while she was stopped. “Ms. Warren, we will look after Mr. Russell. We still need you here.”Josie could only stop in her tracks. She had to give her statement, a task that was too time-consuming to finish quickly. Turning her head, she saw Morgan surrounded by a crowd as they attempted to administer on-site medical assistance. “It's too late. He hit the back of his head on the rubble. There's no time left...” The mask on Morgan's face was removed. He kept his eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, and opened his mouth. “What?” The doctor leaned in to listen. “Jo...” Everyone turned their attention to Josie. She moved slowly, inching closer step by step, and knelt beside him. With all his strength, Morgan looked at her and seemed to see the girl from those years ago. “I'm sorry...” Josie gazed at him, her voice filled with sorrow as she said, “Why did you choose this place? Have you forgotten? I designed this place. No one knows it better than me. No one knows what's hidden here. You didn't have to die. It was a choice you made.” During La Oriele's redesign, she and Dexter had concealed their true intentions, never anticipating that one day those hidden motives would prove invaluable. She never even imagined that they would use it on Morgan. He seemed to hold no regrets at all. Closing his eyes, he said, “I've given you my life. If you remember me for the rest of yours, it's worth it.” At this moment, it was as if he had returned to his usual self, the carefree and guileless Morgan who loved to joke around. Josie could no longer hold herself back. She leaned over, grasping his icy hand, and tearfully said, “You fool, you're killing me.” “I'm sorry. If I could do it all over again... I wouldn't have broken up with you back then.” Morgan's mouth was stained with blood, and there was her reflection in his eyes. “I truly loved you.” Josie held his hand tightly. “Jo... the back mountain...” Morgan couldn't hold on any longer. His pupils dilated, and with his last bit of strength, he said, “The back mountain of the Bastille residence.”His arm slipped away, and he breathed his last. The dashing young man who used to attract the attention of countless women had tragically fallen amidst the chaotic ruins. The snowfall intensified.
