I Married My Boss... On a Blind Date

Chapter 1411 Yulissa Bastille

The frown on Josie's face deepened. Mark leaned in. “Do you not want to bear this burden for me?” If it had been her old self, Josie would have nodded without hesitation. But after all she had been through, her perspective had shifted. She shook her head. “I'm willing to bear this burden for you.” “Then take it.” Mark didn't initially transfer the shares to her due to his own considerations. Now that she had successfully secured several major projects and established her reputation within Olsen Group, he felt that the time was right. Josie said, “Isn't this moving too fast? I'm not on solid ground yet.” “Leanne, I'm afraid I won't be able to hold on until then.” With a serene tone, Mark spoke words that nearly brought Josie to tears in an instant. She felt a bit lost and averted her gaze. “No, you're overthinking it. You're not seriously ill. There's no need for such wild speculations.”Mark chuckled, tapping his chest lightly with his finger. “Do you know what I was thinking when I was stabbed in the chest all those years ago?” Josie shook her head. “I was thinking that you being alive is more important than anything else.” Her eyes were unbearably sore. “Then do you know what I was thinking?” “What?” “So my biological father does love me after all.” After a moment of silence, Mark choked out, “All right, go rest now.” Josie held onto his withered hand, aching to call him “Dad,” but the word just wouldn't come out. She looked at his aged face, telling herself that there would surely be plenty more opportunities in the future. Last night, the wind and snow had raged fiercely. Josie held a cup of hot coffee, gazing at the scenery outside the window. She feared that the journey ahead might be ten thousand times more fierce than what lay outside. “Leanne, look, the situation is more critical than we imagined.” Mark sighed deeply. “Times have changed drastically over the years. Laura must have put forth a lot of effort to win over their hearts. However, from what I observed of Mr. Groff just now, he didn't seem to harbor any ill intentions.” With a warm smile, Mark said, “That old man was so mean to you, yet you still defend him.” Josie smiled slightly. “I've always looked at the issue, not the person. His words may be hard to swallow, but he truly has the company's interests at heart.” “Okay, if you ever feel the need to take action, you can start with him. Declan is not a bad person.” Having said that, Mark stood still for a moment. Before he left, something suddenly came to his mind. “I've looked into the Bastille family for you. Morgan did have a sister, at least in name. She was three years older than him and died of heart disease at the age of twenty. They couldn't save her.” Josie furrowed her brows. If she was twenty years old... then Morgan was only seventeen. “What is her name?” “Yulissa Bastille. She was the daughter of Gavin, the butler of the Bastille family.”“What else did you find?” With a thoughtful hum, Mark said, “He's incredibly discreet in his actions. He managed to keep this matter well concealed. Apart from the eldest few in the Bastille family, there's hardly anyone who knows about this.” “Yulissa's information...” “Someone will deliver it to you a bit later.” Josie watched as Mark was led away by someone else and left, then stood still in her place for quite some time. The cold wind blew through the window, stirring her long hair and leaving her thoughts in turmoil. Feeling someone's gaze on her, she turned around. It was Laura, fresh from a meeting, standing at the far end of the corridor. They locked eyes from a distance. After an indeterminate amount of time had passed, her phone vibrated in her hand, signaling the arrival of a new message. It read: Congratulations on getting what you wished for. It was Dexter. He really had everything under control. As soon as the meeting here ended, he had already received the news. “Indeed, congratulations are in order. You managed to secure twenty percent of the shares so easily. That being said, shouldn't you be thanking me?”
