Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Makay’s p.o.v. “Hypocrite.” Blade grumbles; he has been grumbling that word every few minutes since I punched Rufus for rejecting his fated Mate. I am not a hypocrite; I know I have said that I would reject my fated Mate if she wanted to fight. I also listened to my Mother; she was right when she said that I had to talk to my Mate about my fears. Myka and I have been talking for many hours about our Mate and how to deal with certain issues, and we always come back to the same solution: communication. We need to talk to our Mate, to ask her questions and to give her time to answer them. Our Mate needs to know that we will listen to her when she is bothered by something; communication is a two-way street. I wasn’t paying much attention to where we were going, so the stench of the dungeons hit me hard. I chuckle when I see one of the Warriors size up Meadow and then choose to step aside. “Smart choice,” I tell him through the mind-link. I see him looking at me and then back at Meadow as a smile forms on his face. “Miss, are you the one that kicked a Bear’s ass?” He asks, which makes Blade growl in my head. Neither one of us has forgotten the beating she gave us, and others around us make sure we can’t forget about it. Meadow looks at me over her shoulder with those gorgeous amber eyes of hers, a big smile on her face as she nods her head. The Warrior points at a door, and when she nods, he pulls the chain with keys from his pocket. “This is the one that Makay and Myka brought in from the border. I'm not sure what his deal is, but he has been cussing and swearing ever since we locked the door.” He says as he pulls open the door. A loud ruckus is coming from inside the cell, and it gets louder when Meadow steps into the doorway. “I don’t think he’s too happy to see me. I thought he would be thrilled to be faced with the one they have been looking for.” Meadow says this while looking at me. “Did you do that to him, Makay?” I know what the guy looks like, he got his ass beat by a female and she gave him a damn good beating. Almost as good as the beating Meadow gave me, but this guy is in a cell surrounded by silver and wolfsbane, so he isn’t healing at all. “No, one of our female Warriors did. She is almost as good as you, Meadow.” I answer her. Myka holds out his tablet so we can see what happens inside that cell. Some of the others have moved towards the cell to look at the action. “Get me a table.” Meadow orders, before turning her attention back to the Rogue. “You are the first Rogue Mountain Lion I have ever seen; you smell worse than a Rogue Wolf.” A table is placed in front of Meadow and she places her bag on it, slowly pulling open the zipper. My jaw drops when I see her rolling it out across the table; it contains many knives and other tools.“It is simple. I have a question and you have the answer. The quicker you give me the answer, the less pain I will cause and the quicker death will come for you.” She says. I look up at Dad to see him a bit pale around the nose, his eyes focused on Meadow. Meadow’s fingers glide over the knives, which come in different sizes and shapes, sometimes lingering above one but always continuing to move further. It is that I was paying attention to her fingers or I would have missed it, but we suddenly hear an ear-piercing scream from inside the cell. A knife is lodged in his body just under his left collarbone, just above his heart. “Where is your Boss?” She asks as her fingers touch another knife. She doesn’t say another word, no warning, nothing at all before she throws another knife at him. It is lodged in his body at the bottom of his sternum, right between his lungs. “That is scary. This young and that calculated. I think you are lucky to be still breathing, Son.” Dad says through our mind-link. His screams are deafening, but the injuries don’t look that bad to me. That is, until Blade points out that a smell comes from the cell. I take a sniff to see if I can identify the scent, but it's Layton's facial expression that tells me what it is. “She uses liquid Oleander on her blades.” I inform the others. River looks towards the cell with admiration in his eyes; like us, he is impressed with his baby Sister. Her fingers glide back and forth until she has decided which knife to use this time; the knife flies through the air to end up in his face. Everyone that is looking at her “art” mumbles “ouch” before the next knife flies through the air, lodging into his right shoulder. “Maryan, did you remember to bring my other toys too?” Meadow asks. The Rogue looks from Meadow to Maryan with wide eyes and I see a smile appear on Maryan’s face. Meadow is handed a package of fabric, but it is unclear what is inside. I stare at the screen as she pulls the string, before she folds open the fabric, revealing three syringes filled with a liquid. “If you think the Oleander in your system right now is bad, guess what a syringe filled with liquid Oleander can do to you.” Meadow says as she raises a syringe. She walks around the table towards the Rogue, and he tries to get away from her, screaming “no” over and over again. “Grand Valley territory.” He finally says, just before Meadow reaches his neck with the syringe. “Good boy.” She says as she pets his head. “That wasn’t too difficult, was it?” “I will end your suffering. After all, I promised less pain with a fast answer and death would come soon for you.” Meadow says and as he nods his head, she plunges the syringe into his neck. Injecting him with the liquid Oleander. She doesn’t wait for him to stop breathing; she turns her back on him to put the syringe back on the fabric.“Clean up the mess and take care of the other two as well.” Meadow says, looking at Maryan. Calista walks out of the cell towards the other two prisoners. The doors get opened quickly and before we can question their actions, the other two Rogues are dead as well. Meadow is halfway up the stairs before any of us move; she doesn’t slow down as Myka runs after her. She is a female with a mission and no one is going to stop her, not even her Alpha.
