Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Myka’s p.o.v. “Fuck, that hurts.” I hear Makay say through the mind-link and I smile as I see the iron grip that Meadow has on his wrist. I hear a few chuckles come through the mind-link as Meadow drags him behind her, and Dad laughs when her Lycan calls him 'Teddybear'. I don’t think anyone will ever let him forget this, especially not me. Thyrius pushes forward the moment she asks if they are after her. None of us have to ask who she is talking about and the look on Elder Major’s face tells her all she needs to know. “Why are they after me?” Meadow asks and I sit down on her other side. She seems to feel at ease with Makay next to her and I know they aren’t close friends. “Myka is still looking for the journal; it will answer many of the questions you will have once I am done.” Elder Major says and I am more determined than ever to find that journal. “Only a female in our bloodline is gifted, not just with the ability to tell which Shifter she is looking at. At the age of eighteen, she also receives an extra gift, at least I think it's just one gift. I need the journal your Mother had to be sure, but so far, it is still missing.” Elder Major says. “Meilani had the gift of sense; she could tell you where and how many Shifters were around. The Shifter gift is given to every female in our bloodline, but what kind of other gift or how many other gifts they receive when they turn eighteen is unknown.” He states. I see her reaching for her bag, but she can’t reach it without getting up. River is quick as he grabs it from the floor and hands it to her. “I have obtained some journals from Brent; he was the only Shifter from a special bloodline we were able to speak with. He died minutes after handing these journals to me and for some reason, I have been unable to part with them, even though he requested that I hand them to the Elders.” Meadow says as she pulls a few journals from her bag. “Go back to the library; I saw something similar to that journal. It might be what we are looking for.” Thyrius says and before I can stop him, he has forced me to walk towards the door. “Thyrius believes that he knows where your Mother’s journal is. We will be right back.” I explain before I walk out of the office. I take the stairs two at a time, not planning to waste any time finding that journal. I just hope that Thyrius is right about seeing it and that Meadow can finally get a few more answers than what she has gotten so far. Thank the Goddess that Alpha Lincoln was smart enough to place a decent lock on the door to the Alpha floor; otherwise, we might have lost a lot of information, as I see Rhys trying to pry open the door. “Alpha, Alpha floor. Now.” I yell through the mind-link as I use my phone to record what Rhys is doing. I know he will jump away from the door the moment he hears the others coming up the stairs and I want to have proof of what he was doing. Rhys turns to face me the moment he hears the others running up the stairs and his eyes are fixed on the phone in my hands. He probably doesn’t realize that this recording goes straight to my Father’s laptop because he takes a few steps towards me. “It won’t help you if you take this phone away from me; the footage is already on my Father’s laptop and we both know that they heard what I just said. Why did you try to break into the Alpha floor, Rhys?” I ask. He looks behind me with anger in his eyes and even though I haven’t spent much time with her, I can feel that Meadow is standing behind me. Anger is radiating from both of them and I slowly move to the side. I don’t want to get caught in the middle of whatever this is about. “You are not my Daughter, you are an imposter.” Rhys says this while looking at Meadow. “You don’t look like me or your Mother. I don’t know where my Daughter is, but she left the territory years ago and I can prove it.” Alpha Lincoln walks past Meadow and Rhys, who are still holding a staring contest. “Why don’t you show us this proof?” Alpha Lincoln asks after he has opened the door to the Alpha floor. Rhys walks onto the Alpha floor, and Alpha Lincoln follows him closely as he makes his way to the private office of the Alpha. Rhys pulls a few books from the shelf behind the Alpha’s desk and opens a small drawer hidden behind the books. He pulls out a file, which he hands to Alpha Lincoln. After opening the file, Alpha Lincoln starts to smile and hands it to Meadow once he is done reading it. “You think that this proves I am not your Daughter, just because I don’t look like the female in this picture? Alpha Lincoln had a DNA test done after Myka found out the truth, which proves that I am your Daughter.” Meadow says after she has read the file. “Meadow looks like my Mother, the same blond hair and amber eyes, the same spirit. Meilani, River and I all look like my Father and Meadow looks just like every other female in our family.” Uncle Major says as he hands a picture to Meadow. Makay and I both glance over her shoulder at the picture; they could have been identical twins if there hadn’t been a few decades between them in age. “Thank the Goddess I look like Grandma; if I had resambled my Father in any way, I would have been miserable.” Meadow whines dramatically. River grabs her face in his hands and smiles at her before he says, “There is always plastic chirgury.” We all do our best not to laugh, but when Meadow is the first to crack, we all give up and laugh at River’s remark. Rhys gets escorted off the Alpha floor while Luna Leona bans him from the Pack-house. I walk into the library that is located next to the office and within seconds, Thyrius has found the journal we were looking for.
