Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 27 No Intention

Meadow’s p.o.v. I wait until everyone has entered my office and as they are taking a seat I close the door and lock it for good measure. “We will be leaving for our next assignment in a few hours, our objective is to capture the defendant and bring the Alpha’s Daughter home safely.” I say as I sit down and I see Makay staring at the whiteboard. “Meadow, the Alpha is asking for the guy’s death. Why would you want to capture him?” Makay asks and I hear some of my team members gasp. “Makay, why would you let someone else kill your Daughter’s kidnapper?” I ask him. Calista looks at me for a second and then she slams her hand against her forehead, almost as if I revealed life’s secret to them. “Something isn’t adding up in this case and I intend to find out what that is. His Daughter, Janey, went missing on the morning after the Full Moon and Andrew went missing two days later. Does that make sense to you, Makay?” I ask him. “Why would anyone kidnap a person and then remain in the territory for a few days?” I hear Makay mumble. “This doesn’t add up at all, we are missing some very important pieces of the puzzle.” Maryan turns the whiteboard around and Makay gets up to read the notes and questions we wrote down on the board. “I know that with a kidnapping we need to act fast, but her Father waited almost a week to call in some help and the first question that popped into my head was why did they wait so long to ask for help.” I tell Makay. Calista hands him the file with all the intel we gathered ourselves and one of the things that stood out is the time between Janey and Andrew leaving the territory. No one remembered if they had been near one another during the Full Moon and no one witnessed another male claiming her as his Mate. She stayed on the stage with her Father until she turned in for the night, making me question just about everything about this case. “This is very unusual.” Makay states. “If someone finds their fated Mate then everyone around them would know about it, our other halves would have said it out loud, even if the Human part wanted to keep it hidden.” He is good at seeing the errors in this case and he points out the same things that we already uncovered. “Do you think that they could be fated Mates and her Father is against it?” Makay ask, no one in particular. It had crossed my mind, but there was nothing in our intel to support that theory. Maybe we should take a closer look at her so-called Mate and see if we can find out the truth. “Let’s pay them a visit, before we go searching for Andrew and Janey. Keep an eye on anything that might give us some answers.” I say before I dismiss them all. I walk into Captain Miles’ office to let him know that we will be leaving shortly for our assignment, I always let him know where I am going, even if it is to the other side of the territory. Instead of shifting into Rebel, I walk to Uncle Major’s territory myself. I just want to tell him and Arion that we will be gone for a few days, I don’t want them to worry about us. I have been sitting near the border for less than five minutes, when I can sense that Arion is approaching me. I look up to see Arion lying in front of me, his gaze on me and I smile at him. “I have to go on an assignment and I am not sure how long it will take me to get back, but I didn’t want you to worry about us. We will be back as soon as we can and I want you to stay out of trouble, Arion.” I say teasingly. Arion tilts his head to the left and I just smile at him.“We will be fine, thanks for the heads up. We like having you around, come back soon.” I hear Uncle Major say in my head and I run my hand through Arion’s fur before I kiss the top of his head and walk back to building A. “Did you say goodbye to Elder Major?” Maryan asks, while I walk up to the SUV. “Yeah, just wanted to let them know that it might be a few days before they see me or Rebel again.” I answer her as I get behind the wheel. Blood Moon Pack is a good four-hour drive from Renegade territory and while we drive there, we go over our question for Alpha Rolf again and again. “Alpha Rolf is the type of male that doesn’t like a female in a High-ranking position, so I will do the talking. Makay, I want you to stay behind me at all times and keep your eyes on that so-called Mate of his Daughter.” I say and I see a smile on his face. “You know how to piss off someone, don’t you?” Makay asks laughing and I feel a smile spread across my face.Makay is the right guy for this job and I doubt he will do anything to piss me off today. Let’s just see how Alpha Rolf will respond to dealing with a female, I just hope that we will get some answers. Our SUV is marked as a vehicle from Renegade territory and that should make it easy at the gate or at least that is what I am hoping for. You can never know what you run into and I am prepared for almost everything that comes my way. Halfway through the drive, we pull over to stretch our legs and to get something to eat. There is still an hour and a half left before we get to Blood Moon territory and once we get back on the road, I close my eyes for a while. A soft push against my shoulder, makes me open my eyes and I am staring through the front window to see four Wolves standing in the middle of the road, but we aren’t near the territory yet. Calista stops the SUV a few inches from the Wolves and one of them shifts back to Human form.“Turn around and leave, you are not welcome here.” The male says and I open my window to respond. “Good, that means I get to sleep in my own bed tonight. Tell Alpha Rolf that he can keep looking for Janey himself.” I say, before Calista puts the SUV in reverse and turns around a few feet away. I have no intention of giving up the search for Andrew and Janey, but now I am even more convinced that something is off.
