Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Marley’s p.o.v. I read the highlights from the journal in which their plan was written down and it was clear this was the loophole that Ilma had to reveal her Brother’s plan. “Ilma knew that she couldn’t hand these journals to anyone, but she hoped that her children or her grandchildren would expose the treason of her Brother. We know that never happened, but it wasn’t the only thing she did to thwart his plans. The Warrior that Ilma asked to keep Mahina alive had been beside Koa during the war and would give his life for the Alpha family. His Mate was the Omega that Mahina mentioned in her journals.” I explain. Each time I have covered a question and its answer, I cross it off the board. Slowly, we are getting to the bottom of this huge secret. “The journals were hidden in a room that belonged to one of her children and they stayed hidden until Rhys was a teenager. He knew what was written in the journals, but never informed the Elders. He wanted to take the Alpha position from Hank and has been plotting to get it ever since. My gut tells me that Rhys feels that his family deserved the Alpha position because Ilma was the older twin, but he forgot that she declined the position, publicly.” I say as I cross off another question. Dad points at the question that had us puzzled for a while, until we found the answer, that is.“The three of them planned Mahina’s escape and it took Jacan about four months to discover her escape. He didn’t visit Mahina on a regular basis and never did so during the day. He would climb up there, peek through the windows and leave.” I say. “Did he know that someone was looking out for her?” Elder Chelsea asks after a moment of silence. “Yes, he did. He never found out who it was until the day he discovered that Mahina was gone. Jacan called every Pack-member to the Pack-house and after a head count, he knew who was missing.” I answer. Everyone is staring at me, hoping that I can tell them what their names were and if the Elders might be able to find them. “Their names were Mills and Rayna Proudarm; they were fated Mates.” I say and Elder Chelsea types the names on her tablet. “Did they have any children?” She asks without looking up and I tell her that they didn’t have children at that time. Ilma made sure to write down as many details as she knew and I hope this was to make it easier for us to find them. I look at the whiteboard to see if there are any questions left, but we have told them all we found out and there is nothing left to discuss from the journals. “Oh, this is very interesting. I believe we need to talk to King Joseph.” Elder Chelsea says and powers down her tablet without telling us anything. She grabs her phone to make a call and moments later, we hear King Joseph tell her that he will be on his way, first thing in the morning. “It will take him a few hours to get here, so it was better to get a good night’s rest first. Former Beta Rhys, I suggest that you attend as well and don’t make me send someone out there to come and get you.” Elder Chelsea says before she walks out of the room. A moment later, two Warriors walk in and they get the order to escort Rhys home, to stand guard until morning. “You heard Elder Chelsea. Get some sleep. We will get more answers in the morning.” Alpha Lincoln says. We all head back to our rooms and I crawl into bed after going through my evening routine, right between my Mates. It doesn’t take me long to fall asleep and like last night, it is the best sleep ever. “Good morning, Handsome.” I say when my eyes meet those of Mauro. He cups my face to pull me in for a kiss and I lean forward to deepen the kiss. “Half an hour, Alpha floor.” We hear Alpha Lincoln call out through the mind-link and we both groan at the interruption. “Don’t keep him waiting. I’d rather not deal with a cranky Alpha.” Malek says teasingly as he gets out of bed and pulls me with him. Malek wasn’t really interested in getting to the Alpha floor in a matter of minutes; he wanted to use every minute they had in the bathroom. I think this is going to be my best waste of time from now on. We did manage to get a shower, to get dressed and to the Alpha floor on time. Don’t ask me how we did it, but we managed to get to the Alpha floor before anyone else got there. “We will continue where we left off yesterday, after we have had our breakfast. King Joseph is on his way up as we speak.” Alpha Lincoln says as the last one walks into the living room. “I am already here, Lincoln. I was too curious about Chelsea’s phone call to wait any longer and left shortly after waking up. Let’s get that breakfast, while you fill me in on what you already discussed.” King Joseph says. “Uncle Joseph, before we sit down for breakfast, we would like you to meet our fated Mate, Marley.” Malek says as he guides me toward King Joseph. Hold on, did Malek just call him Uncle? What the hell is going on here? “They didn’t tell you, did they?” King Joseph asks with a smile. “Lincoln and I are related and if I die without an heir, you will have to take over one day.” I turn my head toward Malek to see if the King is kidding, but I can tell immediately know that it is the truth. We might be the successive rulers of this Kingdom and I thought I was going to have a regular and easy life. “Oh, damn. And you said we would have somewhat of an easy life.” I growl softly before burying my face in his chest Mauro explains to King Joseph from which bloodline I come and how happy we were not to have to worry about it anymore. “Sorry for giving you something else to worry about, but I plan on finding my fated Mate and having many children.” King Joseph tries to reassure me.
