Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Mauro’s p.o.v. As we reach the Pack-house, I look up at the rooftop and let my eyes glide down the structure. “Did we do a full sweep of the outside?” I ask Malek and he follows my line of sight as we stop walking. “No, we only checked the inside. Why would you want to check the outside?” Malek asks. “It won’t give us any clues about hidden rooms or corridors in the Pack-house.” I keep checking the wall of each floor until I reach the ground floor, but I haven’t found any anomalies. Malek follows me as I walk to the front of the Pack-house and we both check the wall from top to bottom, again, nothing. “What are you looking for?” Malek asks and I shrug my shoulders. I have no idea what I am looking for; all I know is that we missed something. We walk to the other side of the Pack-house and here we come up empty too. Not a single thing out of place and my gut tells me that there should be something. Magnus is waiting for us by the back door, and he joins us when I stop to look at the wall. This time, I look from bottom to top. “We missed something, but I have no idea what.” I say before Magnus starts asking questions. Each window is accounted for. I call out what is behind the window and Magnus confirms it, while my eyes travel further up the wall. I point out our rooms as my eyes glide along the outside of the Gamma floor and nothing is out of place. The Beta floor is the same. There's not a door, a window, or a balcony that leads to an unknown space for us, and I am starting to lose hope of finding Marley anytime soon. “Are you seeing what I am seeing?” I ask when I am looking at the outside of the Alpha floor. If I hadn’t been so focused on finding something, I would have overlooked it. On the wall, next to the last window on the left, are iron pins stuck in the wall. “Let’s go upstairs and take a closer look at it. It looks man-made and ancient.” Magnus says before he walks into the Pack-house. We ignore everyone’s questions as we walk up the stairs and that is enough for them to follow us to see what we are up to. Magnus opens the door that leads to the balcony, and Malek is the first to step onto it. “It looks as if someone tore off a fire escape, but it isn’t a fire escape because it only leads up and not down.” Malek says as we both follow the sporadic remaining pins. I place my hand on Malek’s shoulder as I climb onto the fence, grabbing the closest pin to pull on it. It seems strong enough to hold me and I slowly pull myself up to reach the next pin. No one follows me, but Malek and Magnus move closer to the fence, just in case. When I reach the top, I take a deep breath before pulling myself onto the rooftop and take a second to steady my heartbeat. “Oh, fuck.” I say as I get up and see the small structure on the rooftop. “There is a small building or room up here.” I don’t have to scream for them to hear me down there and I hear Malek and Magnus bicker about who will climb up next. I hear both of them cussing, which means that someone else beat them to it and I wait for my backup to reach me. “If you snooze, you lose.” I hear Milcah say teasingly as I help her onto the rooftop. We slowly walk toward the small structure and Gossom growls in my head when he smells the Evlehover. “It isn’t just Evlehover, there is Kreasium in there as well.” Milcah says and I take a deep breath to smell the scent of Kreasium. “I have no idea who put it here, but I am going to tear it down. The Kreasium makes it impossible for you or Meadow to sense a presence and the Evlehover makes it impossible for anyone to use their mind-link.” I say. We walk toward the small door and Milcah looks from the door to me with a smile on her face. Yeah, I am not going to fit through it and something tells me I should be glad. Milcah opens the door as I wait to the side and Marley nearly knocks her over as she runs out of the door. “Don’t go in there. Make sure someone is always outside if you really want to go inside.” Marley says as she presses something against her chest. “Are you willing to let that go?” I ask her as I point at the items. “We need to climb down and it isn’t an easy task.” Marley walks toward the spot where we climbed onto the roof and looks down to see what is situated beneath her. “No problem. Boys, move inside. Unless you plan to catch me.” Marley says as she climbs onto the edge. None of us gets the chance to say something before she jumps off the ledge and Milcah runs toward the edge to look down. “Have you lost your fucking mind? Why the hell did you jump down?” Magnus says, while Milcah is laughing at the expense of her Mate. “Well, the least you could have done was catch me.” Marley responds and I snort as I take a peek over the edge to find Magnus face down on the balcony with Marley sitting on his back. Milcah and I climb down the pins to ask Marley how she got up here and how she got locked in that structure up on the roof. I assume she got locked in, because I doubt she would have stayed inside willingly. “Alpha Lincoln, we need to investigate the claim Alpha Hank thinks he had to Gold Moon Pack. I have evidence that Gold Moon was taken over about three hundred years ago, after the Alpha and Luna were murdered.” Marley says as she gets comfortable in her Father’s lap. “What do you mean? Alpha Hank descends from a long line of Alphas. They founded Gold Moon Pack.” Alpha Lincoln responds. He might believe that what he says is the truth, but something tells me that Marley just opened a can of worms.
