Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Meadow’s p.o.v. I have not only examined our section of the border that we need to cross, but I have also inspected the entire border of Seven Cloud Pack. Somehow, Alpha Devlin has most of his cottages near the Pack-house and the same goes for every other large building. Magnus agreed with me that it was a strange setup, having never been to a Pack with a similar situation to Seven Cloud territory. “Myka, is there a way to find out if there is an older map of the territory? This one isn’t making sense and I doubt if it is genuine.” I say to my Mate, who knows how to find almost anything. It takes us the rest of the day to find a path from the border to the Pack-house that will keep us as far away from the cottages as possible. My eyes are burning a little by the time we get called to the dining room for dinner. Myka hasn’t been lucky enough to find another map of Seven Cloud territory and the three of us fall asleep, exhausted. We wake up in time for morning training and after training with so many people, I enjoy the quiet of our bedroom while I take a shower and change into some clean clothes. Breakfast is served in the ballroom for us and almost everyone is going through their notes while eating. Even Madden and Mylah join us this morning and I smile as Mylah keeps walking around to fill coffee cups or to take plates off the tables.I hear Magnus talking to his Father about the buildings so close to the Pack-house. Neither of them can make sense of it and Madden keeps staring at the screen as if it will suddenly make sense somehow. “Meadow, what do you see here?” Madden asks as he points at a cluster of trees. I lean over the table to take a better look at the map and discover that there are six trees, planted closely together. I slide my finger over the map and find dozens of other clusters of trees on it. I walk out of the ballroom and onto the patio to take a look at our tree line, hoping to find an answer. “Rebel, is this making sense to you?” I ask because my Lycan can sometimes have fantastic insights, while I am stuck going in circles. “Those trees are hiding cottages. The amount we can see on the map isn’t sufficient to house the number of Pack-members that Seven Cloud Pack has, according to the file.” Rebel answers. I walk back inside to have another look at the map and I have to admit that Rebel is right. Housing that many Pack-members in the amount of cottages that we can see is insane. Her explanation is the only one that makes sense and I hope Myka can find another map. “Lunch is served.” Mylah calls out and I look at the buffet that is set up against the wall. I am arguing with myself about whether to get lunch or to point out my discovery; Rebel forces me to get some lunch first. “Captain, Rebel and I made a discovery.” I say as I walk over to the screen, once we are all done with lunch and point out what we realized after looking at our tree line. Every team leader has gathered around me to see for themselves what I had uncovered and then the screen flickers for a second or two. Suddenly, we are looking at another map that is projected over the first map. “This is the original map from about five decades ago. It proves what Rebel and Meadow discovered: those trees were planted intentionally. The only mistake they made was not altering the number of Pack-members in the territory.” Myka states. “Damn, I’m glad that the two of you are on our side. We would be doomed if we had to go up against Meadow and Rebel.” Someone mutters behind me. With this new information, we return to the drawing board to devise a new path through the territory. It becomes a bit harder with this new information, but we manage to find a route through the territory to the Pack-house with minimal exposure. After Captain Miles has drawn every route onto the map, we head to the dining room for dinner and will continue our planning in the morning. It is during the night that something pops back into my mind and I can hardly keep my attention on morning training. “Where do you think Alpha Devlin built that prison of his?” I ask as I walk into the ballroom. Just about everyone looks at the pictures they took of the map or at one of the maps on the tables, while I stand in front of the screen looking up. Something tells me that he wouldn’t place it close to the Pack-house or too far away from it. It isn’t until Myka removes the recent map from the screen that we see where it might have been built, but we have no luck in narrowing it down and are stuck with three locations in the end. “Okay, this means that teams Red, Yellow and Purple have to keep an eye out for that prison. The moment you spot it, I want intel on Warriors around the premises and if you can spot a way in.” Captain Miles says. “Madden, can I have a moment of your time? In private.” I ask through the mind-link, while I walk out of the ballroom and straight to Alpha Lincoln’s office. I don’t mind discussing this with our current and future leadership present, but I don’t want to raise everyone else’s hopes only to fail miserably. “How good are your border patrols, Madden?” I ask once everyone is in the office. “Damn good. No one can get into the territory and especially not anywhere near the Pack-house.” Madden answers. Before he can elaborate on how his patrols work, I interrupt him by raising my hand. “I want to test my ability and see if I can get myself and a team into the Pack-house. Maybe scare the shit out of River in the process.” I say teasingly and I see a smirk on Madden’s face. I call Captain Miles into the office to inform him of my plan and ask him to find a way to convince the team leaders of groups Blue and Green to follow my orders if my test is successful. “Not a problem. They will be given a choice: follow your lead or get replaced. I know the team leaders will be an issue and I won't think twice about replacing them.” Captain Miles says. Now, we need to head out to Black Valley territory and see if we can get into the Pack-house. Let’s hope my Brother doesn’t scare easily.
