Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Milcah’s p.o.v. “Thank you, Magnus. I think that would be best, especially if I am better than your Betas. I wouldn’t want to be responsible for major injuries to any of your Pack-members.” I respond as I look at him. Lyrexia loved this sparring session and she can’t wait for the next one. We will have to wait until after the Full Moon party, though. Maybe even longer if Magnus finds his fated Mate tomorrow, because it will at least take a day before they show themselves. “Are you feeling better?” Magnus asks and for a moment, I have no idea what he is referring to. “Yes, I do feel better. Being faced with so many fated couples and how they interact had me wondering if I am making the right decision about tomorrow.” I answer him truthfully. I never had anyone else to talk to than Mom and it is easy to talk to him. He seems to understand more than meets the eye and he allows me to say what I need to say. “Whoever is present tomorrow will be invited again in a month or two. Mom realized that your Mate could be among them, but she wants to give you and your Mother some time to enjoy your freedom.” Magnus responds. “I appreciate that and I know Mom will too. Not sure if Mom wants a second chance Mate, after what Ferdinand did. Only time can tell if she would accept a second chance.” I say.I lie in the grass, listening to the sounds of Shifters sparring and talking. I don’t keep track of time, I am in no hurry to go to bed and I enjoy the silence between Magnus and me. “Milcah, it is almost midnight. Both our Moms are on the verge of sending out a search party.” I hear Magnus whisper, teasingly. I swat my hand in his direction as if to shoo away an annoying bug. He chuckles before I feel myself get lifted off the ground and I slightly open my eyes. Magnus is carrying me bridal style and I decide to enjoy the feeling of comfort, placing my head against his shoulder. “Good morning, Pumpkin.” Mom’s voice wakes me and I slowly stretch my hands above my head before I turn toward the sound of her voice. “You fell asleep as Magnus carried you home and I didn’t want to wake you. You looked so peaceful with a small smile on your face.” Mom heads for the living room, while I walk into the bathroom to take a much-needed shower. Lyrexia slowly wakes up as I rinse the conditioner from my hair and by the time I am done, she is fully awake. “Ask Luna Leona if we can help with the preparations. We need something to keep our minds off the Full Moon and Magnus will be too busy for a sparring session.” Lyrexia says as I get dressed in a pair of jeans and a sleeveless shirt. The entire leadership is in the living room and Lyrexia wants to know if Magnus said anything about our sparring session from yesterday. “Good morning.” I say as I sit down next to Mom. “Luna, can I help with some of the preparations, unless you can miss Magnus for another sparring session. I want to find out if I can get him on his ass again.” Magnus softly growls at me, but everyone can tell that it isn’t in anger. Meadow looks from Magnus to me and back again and I decide to add to the fuel. “According to Magnus, I am better than his Betas. So, I guess a sparring session with Meadow will suffice.” I state. Meadow giggles at my words, while Makay stares daggers at his friend and Myka tries to hide his laughter. “I might be Makay’s Mate, but I don’t think he has forgiven me yet for kicking his ass.” Meadow says with a massive smirk on her face. “Myka has been on the receiving end as well, but he doesn’t mind getting his ass kicked by a woman.” “Want to find out if you can defeat me, Makay?” I ask, my voice interlaced with Lyrexia’s. I am not sure who is more surprised by my challenge, me or Makay. Everyone else seems to enjoy the prospect of my challenge and Luna Leona makes sure we have some time after breakfast for a sparring session. Magnus and Myka keep teasing Makay as we walk to the training grounds. Makay stops dead in his tracks when he sees the training grounds and a second later, I know what made him stop walking. “You didn’t think you would get away so easily, did you?” Meadow says teasingly, before she sprints off, followed by her Mate. Almost every Pack-member and Squad member is present and some have their phones ready to record our sparring session. I don’t care if I win or lose, because this will be my second sparring match in my life and the outcome isn’t important to me. “Are you both ready?” Meadow asks as she looks at both of us and after we have nodded our heads, she gets out of the way. I keep an eye on the moves that Makay makes and remember every countermeasure Magnus gave me yesterday. He still manages to hit me with a few solid punches, but when I pick up the pace on delivering my punches, all he can do is defend himself. Every time he tries to attack me, I sidestep to deliver a series of punches to the side of his body. Connecting with his ribcage, arm and shoulder, again and again. His chase after Meadow had already cost him some of his stamina and keeping up with my punches is costing him even more. He gets slower in his reaction time and when I see an opening, I punch him straight in the gut. He stumbles back a few steps and I follow him to connect my next blow to his jaw, sending him to the ground. Meadow walks over to Makay as she counts to ten and declares me the winner after she has reached the count of ten. “Nicely done, Milcah. I hope I never have to face you in battle, because then I will run in the opposite direction.” Magnus says. “The speed you have when throwing your punches is so damn fast, I have never witnessed that before.”It takes Makay a few seconds to open his eyes and instead of anger, I see admiration in his eyes. “Nice job, Newby.” Makay says as he gets up. “I pity the fool who ever crosses you.” Lyrexia and I feel proud of ourselves. We defeated a well-trained Beta and he isn’t upset with us for kicking his ass.
