Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Magnus’ p.o.v. It takes us a few more days to finalize everything and I watch as Captain Miles gives his instructions to the last team to depart for Frozen Star Pack. “Once you are in place, send me a message. Alpha Lincoln and Elder Chelsea will leave as soon as we get that message and I will join you as soon as I can.” Captain Miles says as the last team member gets in the SUV. It will take them over two hours to get into position; then, they will reach out to the others to obtain the latest updates. After that, they will inform Captain Miles and we will be on our way to Frozen Star Pack. Meadow has all the papers from the trial. She suggested that we treat this as a follow-up to verify the information Winston gave us. Well, actually, it is the information that Meadow collected with her team and Wiston only confirmed everything. “Magnus, if Alpha Ferdinand asks, you are accompanying me as a learning experience. I want him to understand that he might have to deal with you in the future, not sure if there will be a Frozen Star Pack left.” Dad says. “We are still searching the archive for information on Frozen Star Pack’s Alpha family. If there is anyone out there who can take over from Alpha Ferdinand, we will find him or her.” Elder Josiah says. We all know that Milcah has the right to take over from her Father, but we don’t know if she is willing to lead a Pack that did nothing for her Mother or herself. If any Pack-member realized that Zaphara never left the territory, that is. “Let’s get some breakfast. We have a long day ahead of us and I am not looking forward to it.” Elder Chelsea states. No one says a word as we eat our food and I let my mind wander to Milcah and Zaphara. Gilliam hates thinking about them, primarily due to their Shifter halves. Neither of us can imagine being locked in a suite on the Alpha floor, never seeing daylight or other Shifters. It makes Gilliam pace in the back of my head; it makes him feel restless. At least, we know that she got an education and access to a laptop. Her messages reveal that she is a smart woman who is willing to try anything to broaden her horizons. It allowed her to reach out to the Elders and expose her Father’s crimes. She even managed to record conversations she wasn’t supposed to hear and realized that it would help the Elders to make a case against her Father. Gilliam doubts that Milcah sees him as her Father and if I am being honest, I wouldn’t want to refer to someone like that as my Father either. “Link me when you have news, Gilliam needs to run.” I say before I walk out of the dining room. I quickly walk to the nearest treeline and take off my clothes, handing over control to Gilliam. He takes off at high speed and I watch the world fly by as he runs through the forest. “Milcah never had this luxury and Zaphara hasn’t been able to shift for many years.” Gilliam says. I can hear the pain in his voice at the thought of not being able to shift, to run or to just walk around. “Once they are safely in Gold Moon territory, they can shift and run as much and as often as they want. No one will ever deny them their freedom ever again. We will make sure of that.” I reassure him. Dad has planned everything to accommodate Milcah and Zaphara. If they don’t feel comfortable within the territory, they can relocate to Black Valley territory. Everyone is helping out with whatever they might need, including a place to stay, clothing and anything else they can think of. I am not sure if they would prefer a place in the Pack-house or a cottage that is further away from other Pack-members. Regardless of what they want, we will ensure they receive it. Gilliam hasn’t slowed down yet and he will probably keep up this pace until we have to leave, which means that he will be asleep in the back of my head for the entire trip to Frozen Star Pack. “Gilliam, you need to get back. We are leaving in ten minutes.” Dad says through the mind-link. Meadow is waiting for us near the tree where we left our clothes. “Follow me, you can use a shower in my opinion.” She leads Gilliam to a small building near the forest and she opens the door to what appears to be a small changing room. Once we are inside, Gilliam hands control back to me and I take a quick shower before getting dressed again. I thank Meadow as we make our way over to the SUVs and we drive off the second the door closes behind us. “Did Gilliam calm down a bit?” I hear Myka ask. I have my eyes closed while my head is leaning against the window. “Yeah. We both have trouble with Alpha Ferdinand’s actions. He is keeping his fated Mate and Daughter captive. Do you realize that that means that Milcah shifted inside?” I ask. The SUV erupts with roars from different types of Shifters and I feel the SUV slowing down and coming to a complete stop. It takes them a few minutes to calm their Shifters down and I have to explain to Elder Chelsea why they are so pissed off. “Sorry, if I had known they never thought of this, I would have kept my mouth shut. Didn’t expect myself to be the only one who understood the ramifications of Alpha Ferdinand’s actions.” I mumble. After five minutes, we are ready to head out again and hopefully without any further delay. Gilliam is still in a deep sleep and I am grateful he missed this conversation. He probably wouldn’t have given me the time to take my clothes off and I forgot to bring an extra pair of shoes. Usually, I am better prepared for situations like this and have extra clothes and shoes with me. What I hadn’t counted on was being in Renegade territory and didn’t bring an extra pair of shoes. I doze off from time to time, but don’t fall into a deep sleep during the last stretch of the trip.
