Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 10 Tried To Stop

Elder Morton’s p.o.v. I have been waiting for this call for years and now that I have gotten it, I am not sure how to feel about it. Alpha Hank has been a thorn in the eyes of the Elders for years, from the moment he took over from his Father he had opposed the Elders in every way he could. From banning the Elder in their territory after an argument to not filing reports on Pack matters, he had done it all and now he was gone. I get in my car to head down to Gold Moon Pack, I need to let the Pack-members know that the Elders support Alpha Lincoln and any decision he makes for Gold Moon Pack. Halfway through my trip, I get a call from Elder Chelsea. Our newest recruit is on her way and I want to be there for her interview. “I will take the jet on the way back, that way I will be back on time.” I tell her before I disconnect the call. For just a second I think I am hallucinating, but I am not. Four Rogues jump out of the tree line and I manage to evade them, but I know I am not faster in my car. I come to a full stop at the side of the road and make a run for it, as fast as I can. I skid to a halt, one of the Rogues is right in front of me and a moment later I am surrounded by all four of them. I take a few swings at them, connecting with a face and a ribcage. I stagger back as one of them connects with my stomach and when I hear a door open I pray to the Goddess to keep that person safe. Not that I needed to send the prayer, because all four Rogues are dead in the blink of an eye. Our eyes lock for a moment and I can see the pain and distrust in her eyes, but she walks into her room before I can say anything. The owner and his Son start cleaning up the mess and I walk back to get my car. I find out that my savior has disappeared and she is traveling in the opposite direction. Maybe we will meet again someday.I am glad when I finally reach Gold Moon Pack and after informing the Pack of the Elders ruling, I walk into the Pack-house. I need to make sure that Lincoln turns this Pack inside out and for him to find every damn secret Alpha Hank hid from the Elders. None of the Elders can tell an Alpha directly what to do, but we can give them advice and Lincoln is known to follow that advice. Until he thinks it isn’t in his best interest anymore, than he will toss that advice out the window. I give Lincoln all the information I can and I can see that he is already processing a few things. His answer to my question on what he plans to do with this territory, is diplomatic as always. I let my eyes pass along everyone present in the room and when they land on Beta Lennox, I know he has a nasty surprise for some people. “Sorry, Alpha Lincoln, I can’t stay for dinner. A new recruit arrived today and I need to be there for her interview. Our jet is already waiting for me, it will get me back in time for some dinner. If you have any questions or any other issues, you know how to reach me.” I say to Alpha Lincoln. “She could tell that Chelsea is a Lynx.” Josiah says the moment I walk into our private living room. “I don’t know who trained her, but she is very good. I checked the files from Gold Moon Pack and she is the first to apply for studies with the Renegades.” I already knew this the day her application came in and I hope she can tell me how she tricked Alpha Hank in signing the document. Josiah tells me that Elder Chelsea is in a private meeting with Meadow, “When she asked Chelsea, I could tell that she has been hurt. I just couldn’t tell if it was physical or mental and we decided it was best to grant her request.” A blood curdling scream stops him from continuing and we walk into Elder Chelsea’s office. We are faced with a Lycan, with what looks like fur on fire. Her Lycan howls in pain and in mere seconds other Shifters join her howls. It only lasts a minute or so, than she collapses to the floor in her Human form. Chelsea grabs one of my spare shirts, pulls it over her head and once it is in place Josiah picks her up. We wait outside her room in the infirmary, while Doc is examining her. I already know what happened, but my main question can only be answered by Meadow. “How did she shift” Josiah mumbles, but I doubt I have to explain it to him. “I think the better question would be; who is her fated Mate?” Chelsea responds. “I knew she had her Lycan, she used her claws on those Rogues. I just didn’t think it was my place to reveal that secret, I doubt there is anyone that knew she had her Lycan.” I say and I know that Josiah and Chelsea understand my reasoning. “Elder Morton, she will wake up soon. Everything is fine, just make sure that she shifts every day. I would hate to see this forced shift become a problem for her. If you want to talk to her that is fine, but I will be there to monitor her.” Doc says and I know there is nothing I can say to stop him from being there. It takes half an hour for her to wake up and I decide to bite the bullet, “Who is your fated Mate?” Chelsea asks and each of us take a seat to listen to the rest of her story. “Rebel showed up over nine weeks ago. I was surprised to hear her and I made the decision to keep it a secret. We used all our private time to talk and during my schooldays she would go through my memories, to say she was pissed is putting it mildly. Six weeks ago we were gathered in front of the Pack-house, our future Gamma was turning eighteen and we were all to witness his shift. It would also be possible for him to find his fated Mate and his girlfriend, Stella, was telling everyone that he would finally be able to sense that she was his fated Mate. There was only one problem that night, Stella wasn’t his fated Mate but he did announce her as his Mate and yes, he didn’t use the word fated. I was his fated Mate and he chose to ignore what the Goddess had decided.” She closes her eyes for a moment. “Florence knew immediately that something was wrong and Rebel confided in my friends, I was in no shape to answer any questions. Hayden made sure that Alpha Hank signed my application the following day, he wanted me to have a back-up plan if Rufus would keep lying. I had to wait six weeks for Stella to turn eighteen and I don’t have to tell you what happened that night. Not with Stella and not with Alpha Hank, I left in the early hours that morning and I have no intention of going back.” She says, finally allowing the tears to escape she tried to stop.
