The Wolves Beneath the Sanctuary
Unknown I haven't seen my Sister since her Mate took her with him, but something tells me that she isn't in a good place, and from the bits and pieces I have heard around the Pack I am not going to like what is happening to her. A branch snapping draws my attention to my left, and I see a young male sneaking through the bushes and trees. He keeps looking over his shoulder with a look of fear in his eyes, and if I had to guess I would say he is going to run away from the Pack. The small backpack on his back indicates that he is prepared for his departure and that his journey might take a while. At first I want to ignore him to find another way to reach my Sister, but then I hear him whisper, "I will get help, Denali." I doubt there is more than one shifter in that Pack that carries the name Denali, and I decide to follow the young Wolf to his destination, no matter where that might be. He will have more information on her situation than I do, and something tells me that he will get more done as a young Wolf than me. He keeps a good eye on his surroundings, and he is able to avoid the Warriors that are on patrol; it takes him about an hour to sneak his way out of the territory. I follow him at a safe distance, and I see that he is smart enough to stay clear of the main road, traveling through the trees and bushes. He stops a few times during the day, but never longer than is necessary, and by nightfall he finds a place to sleep. Makucha keeps watch over both of us as we both rest for the night, and just before dawn he wakes me up to danger getting closer; I smell the scent of Rogues. I see two of them slowly approaching the cave the young Wolf is in, but I also know that there are more of them close by, and I allow Makucha to take care of these two. We follow the scent of two more Rogues after he has killed them, and soon we find the other two Rogues, only minutes away from the cave. It doesn't take us long to kill them, and just as I reach my hide-out the young Wolf emerges from the cave, ready to continue his journey to wherever this road may lead him. The young Wolf is smart because he doesn't run or stop for too long; it feels as if he has had training from someone with battle experience, and I am glad that he is unable to smell my scent. There is no doubt in my mind he would have noticed me if he could smell my scent, and then I would have a lot of explaining to do. After two more nights we finally reach a huge building, and I know from my Father's stories that this is where the Council of the Werewolves and Lycans reside. He promised Denali he would get help, and here he will find the help he needs to keep his promise.Three hours later, eleven males walk out of the building towards the waiting SUVs, and Makucha follows them at high speed. It doesn't take us long to realize that they are not heading towards the Pack Denali lives in, and we both start to panic a little. It takes me a few minutes to realize where we are, but soon I recognize the territory my family once lived in, and I wonder what they could possibly need to do out here. My family abandoned the territory after the last Werewolf Pack died out, and to my knowledge no one has ever settled down here again. Makucha nearly runs into a tree when we see a diner and motel in the middle of the forest; the sign above it states, "Crystal Blood Diner & Motel," and I recall Dad mentioning that Pack a long time ago. I softly chuckle when I hear the Werewolf growling at the Lycan, but I am stunned when I hear someone refer to her as the Alpha. "Sounds like things have really changed around here," Makucha says. I follow them to an area that is all too familiar to me, and I wonder if they have found the rest of the territory. I am able to get close to the small Pack-house, but I can't hear what is being said inside the office, and we decide to wait near the diner to see if and when they are leaving. Most of the Wolves and Lycans that get into the SUVs are male, except for the Alpha and another female. She sniffs the air as she looks around, but apparently she can't find what she smelled, and I wonder if there is danger around. When the SUV the female is in passes us, I know what she was looking for. She was looking for me, her fated Mate.
