The Wolves Beneath the Sanctuary
Jocelyn’s p.o.v. I am too tired to open my eyes, but something tells me that I am moving. I would almost say that I am in a vehicle, but Indigo and I didn’t leave our territory in a vehicle. Fuck, did my Father catch me after all and why doesn’t it feel like Erylis is on high alert? I try to move, but then I feel something weighing down on my chest. It doesn’t feel too heavy and it doesn’t feel uncomfortable, but it is a foreign feeling for me. “Are you awake?” A soft voice beside my ear asks and I try to open my eyes again, but they refuse to respond to my attempts to open them up. “It’s okay, you are safe. Please, don’t move to fast. My baby Sister is sleeping on your chest.” The soft voice says and I smile as I finally hear what the weight on my chest is.“My friend?” I ask in a breaking voice, afraid to find out what might have happened to Indigo. For a while it is quiet and then I feel a small hand on my cheek, “Our Alpha is on his way back with her.” The soft voice speaks and a single tear slips from the corner of my eye, relief washing over me. The memories of earlier coming back to me at lightning speed and I know that we will at least have a better future. I listen to my surroundings as I lie there with a baby on my chest, not exactly what I was expecting to find when I woke up and I hear someone humming a tune I know. “Angels will watch over you and soon beautiful dreams will come true.” I sing softly as I remember the lyrics to the tune and I keep singing softly, while the others in the vehicle with me keep humming. Indigo and I know quite a few of these songs, they helped us get through the days back home. “How are you feeling, Erylis?” I ask and I hear a soft growl in my head, sounds like I woke her from a peaceful sleep. I listen to the others humming an instrumental piece of Celtic music, waiting for Erylis to answer my question and I eventually join them in humming. Erylis is taking her time to get back to the land of the living, she must have been exhausted from running and fighting. “I am fine, my Human. I can’t wait to see Indigo again and to ask Kardia what happened to them.” Erylis says and I know we will stay close for a few hours, giving Erylis and Kardia the time to answer the other’s questions. I place one hand on the back of the baby on my chest and with the other hand I push myself into a sitting position, looking straight at the golden Wolf. I lean out of the window a little and whisper, “Thank you for saving me.” I turn in my seat to lean back, being careful to let this little one on my chest sleep. A girl, that looks about two years old, moves closer to my side and I place my arm around her shoulder.“My name is Jocelyn. Can you tell me your name and that of your baby Sister?” I ask her and I see her looking at the golden Wolf. “My name is Jenna and that is Faye Jordan. We named her after our parents, no one knows where they are.” She says, but I can hear the pain in her voice and I look at the Youngster in the passenger seat for more answers. “We don’t know much, but Doc suspects that they were chased when Beta Faye went into labor. They cleaned their new-born up and hid her with Jenna in the high grass, that is where we found them. No sign of their parents, like Jenna said.” He answers my unspoken question. The SUV comes to a stop and I see a huge Wolf approach the SUVs with my best friend on his back. I quickly open the door and slide out of the backseat, holding Faye tightly in my arms. I step away from the SUV to give them space to place Indigo into the backseat and Jenna climbs over to the front passenger seat, leaving enough space for me to sit. I take another step away from the SUV and I feel fur tickling against my cheek, giggling I turn around. The Golden Wolf is towering over me, but it doesn’t intimidate me at all and I decide to tease him a little. “See you at the next stop, Golden Boy.” I say as I walk around the SUV, quickly stepping in and closing the door. The driver of the SUV just stares at me, while the others are giggling and chuckling. I turn towards the golden Wolf and he has a rather dumbfounded look on his face, he didn’t see that one coming. The SUVs start driving again and my attention is on Indigo, like me she just needs to rest and with a decent meal in our stomach we can run in Wolf form again. Keeping the unmated females, Pups, Youngsters and elderly safe, if they will let us that is. After a few minutes I look up, but the golden Wolf is nowhere to be seen and I think the disappointment is showing on my face. “Gamma Joseph went back to his position at the rear, he will protect us from anyone that tries to sneak up on us from the back.” The driver tells me. I divide my attention between Indigo and Faye, both of them still out cold. One from exhaustion and the other just because it is what she does best. I smile at Jenna when we hear the little snores from Faye and every now and then I hear Jenna giggle. I look out the window to my right and I can see movement in the tree line, I place my head against the window as if I am getting ready to go to sleep. It takes me a few minutes to count the Wolves and Lycans in the tree line, there are twelve of them and I know for sure at least four of them are Lycans. “Does anyone have a map of the route we are taking?” I whisper and it turns out that the map is our SUV. “Joey, tell the female Warrior that there is movement on the right side of the convoy.” I tell the driver, before I give him the rest of the information about the group in the tree line. I trace our route with my finger and my heart skips a beat when I realize what might happen. I turn my eyes back to the tree line and the group is gone. I give Joey the additional information and I hear him repeat it to the female Warrior next to our SUV.
