The Wolves Beneath the Sanctuary
Orion I listen to Umayza as she is talking to our Father, and I feel anxious the moment she starts turning the phone in my direction, but the moment our eyes connect, I know he is my Father. I see all sorts of emotions running through his eyes, and I see realization in them the moment Umayza shows him our faces next to one another. Jasper is jumping up and down while my heart rate is increasing the moment he says "Son"; there is no doubt in his voice as he says that word, and the anxiety disappears immediately. Ma is going to be so excited when I tell her I found my Father and that I have a twin Sister. I am glad to hear him say that the choice is up to me on what I want to call him, as long as I don't call him Sir ever again. I see confusion in his eyes when I tell him that Mom is buried on Pack territory and that Ma looks after her grave when I am not around."Ma is the only parent I have ever known, but she knew I wasn't hers. She didn't want me to call her Mom, as that title belonged to the female that died protecting me, so she chose Ma as an alternative title," I explain, and I see him nodding his head in understanding. He doesn't judge me for spying on his Daughter for her so-called Grandmother, as he explained that Calliope is Mom's Aunt, but Wenonah is Mom's Sister, and I don't like the thought of being related to either one of them. "We may be related to them, but there is no bond between us and them," Jasper responds. After we disconnect the call with Dad, I ask Umayza if she can explain why she introduced Conri and Evander as her Mates; she tells me about the day they picked her up to be brought to the Council, and I growl as I hear about Dolion attacking her. My jaw drops when she tells me she has the gift of perception, just as Calliope suspected all these years, and what she found out the next morning. I am not sure if I should be pissed at Conri and Evander or if it was a good thing that it played out this way. "Sis, this might sound a bit strange, but I think it might have been a good thing. If you had accepted that first invitation, I doubt we would be sitting here today, and I doubt you would have been where you are today as a Warrior, for that matter. I have no idea how Calliope would have reacted to you being mated to Conri and Evander, but I think she would have come for you with guns blazing, so to speak," I tell her, and for a moment, I can see her Wolf present, her eyes coloring towards turquoise. "Yade thinks you might be right; my life would have been different if I had gone to the Palace. I am not sure what I would be doing today if I had gone, but I probably would still be helping the Council in any way I could. Yade also thinks it would have pissed Calliope off enough to bring war to the Academy," Umayza responds. Everyone growls at her words, but I know she is probably right. Calliope would have gone to the Academy to get her if she had been marked by Conri and Evander, and I think it would have ended badly for a lot of Werewolves and Lycans. A shiver runs down my spine as I think of Umayza getting caught in the middle of the fight. Evander Conri and I watched as Umayza slept in her Brother's arms; she had a smile on her face as her head lay on his chest, and a few minutes later, Orion had drifted off to sleep as well. When Umayza finally woke up, she came to the realization that Gray needed to know about Orion, but she didn't inform him about Calliope being here, and I am not sure if I agreed with her on that. He is her Father, and he has a right to know that she might be in danger. Axel and Theron had made a schedule for patrol around the cottages, but I hadn't seen Alexia and Blaze for a while.I am about to ask where they have gone off to when they walk back into the cottage. "Captain Armand, Calliope checked into a Hotel on the other side of Blue Crystal Pack. Kendrick and Wenonah are with her; there is also a male that we didn't recognize, and she has posted a lot of Warriors around the Hotel," Alexia reports. I remember Orion mentioning that Calliope asked a male to forcefully mark Umayza; he was also the one to make Orion come clean about why he was watching her and that Umayza was not his type. Someone clearing their throat pulls me from my thoughts; Armand is looking at me, and I know he expects me to say something. Umayza and Orion are on the back porch with Theron and Yonatan to make sure their Wolves learn how to communicate without affecting Umayza or Orion in any way. Armand is right to make sure their Wolves know how to communicate without distracting Umayza and Orion; I just hate that he doesn't want me or Conri around. "The male must be Orion's friend, the one that made him realize that this assignment wasn't going to turn out well. I have an idea that most of Orion's assignments were to gather information about chosen Mates or business deals, and something tells me he would withhold information if it could cause harm to someone. Umayza can't be the first assignment in which he didn't reveal everything he found; there must have been other times he would leave out vital pieces of information," I say, and Armand agrees with me; he has been thinking the same thing. Blaze informs us of the amount of Warriors Calliope took with her, and we know that we will be outnumbered if it comes to a fight. We talk about how we can help to keep Umayza safe; after all, they have been working with her for years, and they have developed a way of working together. "Alexia or Boris will inform you when she gets pulled into a memory; one of you has to keep an eye on her while the other is there to protect the two of you. The rest of us will make a perimeter around the three of you to keep anyone away from you.Orion can stay in the first circle with Alexia and Boris; the rest of us will be the outer circle, and we will be the first line of defense," Axel says, and Conri and I just nod our heads. Callan and Blaze take care of lunch as we are still discussing how to deal with Calliope and her entourage. "We could inform the Alpha from Blue Crystal Pack; he knows that we are coming here to investigate what happened to White Horn Pack, and he might be willing to lend us some of their Warriors. After all, we are here to find answers for his Cousin, Princess Taliyah," Callan suggests from the kitchen.
