Reborn as the Baby Sister Everyone Spoiled—and the One He Loved

Chapter 50 Jealousy

Leon took a slow sip of his tea before he spoke."From now on, I'll decline evening engagements whenever I can and have dinner with Elaine." Money wasn't everything. Even a hundred-million-dollar deal couldn't compare to the warmth of sharing dinner with his precious daughter. Alora froze, biting her lip slightly, barely able to keep her smile intact. Elaine again! It was always about her! Leon used to spoil her, too. When she'd throw a tantrum and ask him to skip his business dinners, he'd agree on the surface, spend a little time with her, and then sneak off anyway. But why was Elaine treated so differently?Even though jealousy was eating her alive, Alora forced herself to smile. "Dad, you're so good to the family." "I owe Elaine too much," Leon replied. "I just want to make it up to her." Alora's smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly recovered. Rebecca glanced at the darkened sky outside, a trace of concern in her eyes. "I wonder when Elaine will return—it's already dark out." She had thought about calling her but didn't want to disturb her. Alora's fingers clenched tightly, her nails digging into her palms. Elaine, Elaine, Elaine! Was that all they could talk about? Trying to keep her composure, Alora smiled. "I heard from Elaine earlier today that you and Dad agreed to help her end the engagement with the Wilsons?" She had originally planned to ease into the topic, maybe chat with them a bit before bringing it up naturally. But they kept bringing up Elaine, and it drained her patience entirely. Might as well just ask directly. Rebecca nodded. "Yes, it's what Elaine wants. Your father and I respect her decision." Hearing this, Alora couldn't stop the grin spreading across her face. This was amazing! It's actually true! That idiot Elaine was seriously trying to break off the engagement with Terry. Leon noticed every flicker of emotion on Alora's face.As a veteran businessman and a seasoned strategist, he saw through her thoughts in an instant. He threw cold water on her excitement. "Alora, the engagement was arranged by both of our family's elders back then. It's specifically between Elaine and Terry. Even if she wants to call it off, whether the Wilsons accept you or not depends entirely on Terry's decision." "Dad, what are you trying to say?" Alora was about to question him further when a housekeeper entered to report. "Mr. Leon, Mrs. Rebecca, Ms. Alora, Mr. WIlson is here." Ever since Elaine returned to the Currans, Leon insisted that the staff refer to Elaine as the eldest daughter. Elaine was now the eldest daughter of the family. Alora hated Elaine to her core. She was the true eldest daughter!Sooner or later, she'd drive Elaine out of this house. But her mood flipped when she heard the latter part of the message. Ter was here! This was perfect! Her parents did not need to go to the Wilsons now—they could settle the engagement right here and now. "Where's Ter?" she asked eagerly. "Ms. Alora, Mr. Wilson is at the entrance," the housekeeper replied. Without a second thought, Alora dashed outside, completely forgetting to act reserved. "This child," Rebecca sighed, shaking her head. Then she turned to the housekeeper. "Invite him in." "Yes, Mrs. Rebecca."The housekeeper nodded and hurried to follow Alora. What unfolded next was a slightly awkward scene. Alora practically bounced to the front door, her excitement palpable. "Ter!" she called out, her voice reaching the door before she did. But when she arrived, she was met with Ryan. Her face immediately fell. "Where's Ter?"
