Chapter 17 What Game Are You Playing?

Elaine leaned wearily against the sofa, not even bothering to lift her eyelids at the sound. Alora hadn't expected Elaine to completely ignore her, and the fake smile on her face was starting to crack from frustration. But she held back her anger and approached Elaine. Staring at Elaine's still beautiful face, despite her lack of expression, Alora bit down on her teeth. That sweatshirt, so plain and childish, looked adorably cute on Elaine. If she wore it, it would look terrible on her. It doesn't pay to compare yourself to others! Pushing those thoughts aside, Alora got straight to the point. "Elaine, can I stay in the room for a bit longer?" Elaine smirked, her expression full of mockery, but she still didn't look up at Alora."Elaine, please don't be upset. I like the room I'm in now. Just give me a few more days, and I promise I'll move out and let you have it. Is that okay?" Alora's delicate face was full of pitiful pleading. Finally, Elaine lifted her eyes and sneered, "Alora, what game are you playing?" Alora looked like she was the one being bullied here. Wasn't it Alora who said she'd do anything as long as Elaine and Terry broke off their engagement? All Elaine wanted was to reclaim the room that was hers to begin with. Why was Alora suddenly acting so wrong? Alora was momentarily stunned. Elaine must be doing this on purpose! Alora had joined the entertainment industry at sixteen. As the beloved little princess of the Currans, she'd had countless resources at her disposal from the start, always landing the lead role. Over the four years since her debut, the Currans had poured billions into her career. Yet, despite all this, she had never even been nominated for an award at any film or television festival. Winning the Best Actress award had always been her dream. And here Elaine was, deliberately rubbing salt into her wounds. How vicious! "What's going on?" Rebecca came over, carrying a cup of honey grapefruit tea she'd made herself. Seeing Alora's less-than-pleasant expression, Rebecca asked with concern. "Mom!" Alora immediately tried to throw herself into Rebecca's arms, full of grievance. "Hold on!" Rebecca raised a hand to stop her, worried that Alora might knock over the tea she'd made for Elaine. She handed the cup to Elaine. "Elaine, try this. Let me know if I added enough honey and if it's sweet enough." Elaine took a sip, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "It's delicious. Thank you, Mom." Rebecca ruffled her hair affectionately. "Silly girl, no need to thank me. Whenever you want some, I'll make it for you." "Okay," Elaine replied, smiling with contentment. The resentment she'd felt earlier, thanks to that j*rk Terry, was greatly soothed by Rebecca's overwhelming motherly love. "Mom ... " Alora's jealousy and sense of neglect grew as she saw how thoroughly she was being ignored. Rebecca finally turned to her. "What's the matter, Alora?" Alora glanced at Elaine before cautiously asking, "Mom, can I not move out for now?" Rebecca looked confused. "Move where?"Alora, sounding wronged, explained, "I mean moving out of the room I'm in now. I know it's the room you and Dad prepared for Elaine, but I've gotten so used to living there. I just want to stay a few more days before I move out. Is that okay?" "Who told you to move out?" A raspy, angry voice echoed from the stairway.
