Reborn as the Baby Sister Everyone Spoiled—and the One He Loved

Chapter 16 Come Home Now

Elaine drove the car back into the garage. As she entered the living room, she saw Rebecca coming down the stairs. The moment Rebecca saw her, a gentle smile spread across her well-maintained face, her eyes brimming with affection. "Elaine, you're back." Rebecca had just returned from running errands, and the first thing she did was look for Elaine. When she found out Elaine had gone out, she went to her room to wait. But when she spotted Elaine driving up from the balcony, she quickly came downstairs. "Mom." Elaine, feeling a bit worn out, called out softly. Rebecca descended the stairs, immediately noticing the fatigue on Elaine's face and grew concerned. She quickly guided her to the sofa, her voice full of worry. "Elaine, what's wrong? Why do you look so pale?" Elaine gently leaned against Rebecca's shoulder. "Mom, I'm fine," she said softly. Rebecca, heart aching, patted her shoulder. "How can you say you're fine when you look like this? Are you feeling unwell? I'll have your sixth brother come over and check on you." Before Elaine could refuse, Rebecca had already picked up her phone and called Jay. "Hello, Jay, you need to come home right away." At that moment, Jay Curran was in the hospital control room, his brow furrowed. He had hired several expensive hackers to help recover some surveillance footage. With just a bit more information, he could find that girl faster. But after all this time, they still had nothing. Useless fools! If Odin wasn't abroad, he wouldn't have to deal with this bunch of incompetents. As he grew increasingly frustrated, Rebecca's call came in. Jay forced himself to answer, only to hear Rebecca's anxious voice. "Mom, what's going on? Is everything okay at home? Who's sick?" Jay was already on his feet, ready to rush home. Family was the most important thing to him. Just as he reached the door, Rebecca's voice, full of urgency, came through the receiver. "Your sister isn't feeling well. You need to come home and check on her." Jay stopped in his tracks. "Sister? Which sister?" Even as he spoke, Jay was already turning back toward the control room. There wasn't a sister worth leaving his work for. Rebecca snapped, "Which sister do you think? Of course, it's Elaine." Jay stared at the computer screen. "Oh, I'm busy." Rebecca was furious. "You brat! What do you mean you're busy? Elaine is sick! Drop whatever you're doing and come home now." Without giving Jay a chance to argue, Rebecca hung up. Jay's expression darkened instantly. He irritably tugged at the collar of his lab coat. Annoying! Rebecca put down her phone and turned to Elaine, still looking slightly angry from her exchange with Jay. But her voice was gentle. "Elaine, Jay will be home soon. I'll go make you a cup of hot tea." Elaine smiled faintly. "Thank you, Mom." At the corner of the stairs, Alora stood with a grim expression. Her fingers were clenched so tightly that her long nails dug into her palms, causing pain. But the pain in her palm was nothing compared to the ache in her heart. "Which sister? Of course, it's Elaine!" The mother who once loved her so much now seemed to have no room left for Alora since Elaine came back. Elaine! Alora took a deep breath, calming herself down, and adjusted her expression to a more delicate, pitiful smile. She slowly descended the stairs. "Elaine, welcome back." As she spoke, her smile grew a bit wider.
