Reborn as the Baby Sister Everyone Spoiled—and the One He Loved
"I have no idea," Hannah said, shaking her head honestly. She had forgotten to ask Elaine and Yosef for their names since they had moved too quickly. On top of that, their faces were hidden. She couldn't identify them at all. "How can you not know? You don't know how she saved your sister? Do you really think I'm a fool?" Jay insisted. "I truly don't know." Hannah was so terrified that she was nearly in tears. Observing her reaction, Jay realized she was telling the truth and stepped back. He tightened his fists.I needed to find her! I had to locate that girl. "Get the surveillance footage from the operating room for me," he instructed the assistant next to him. He was eager to find out how that girl managed it. "Understood, Dr. Curran," the assistant replied with a nod. Jay went back to the deputy director's office. Ten minutes later ... The assistant knocked gently on the door. "Come in," Jay called out. "Dr. Curran ... " The assistant entered with shaky legs, swallowing nervously and wearing a troubled expression.Jay, frustrated, snapped, "If you're feeling not good, get some medicine. Just show me the footage." The assistant hesitated before saying, "Um ... the hospital's surveillance system has been hacked." Jay was left speechless. ... As the city lights flickered on, the darkness of night enveloped the city. Elaine shut her laptop and stowed it in the trunk. She then parked the car in the underground garage of a luxury six-star hotel. Afterward, she and Yosef made their way through two alleys to their favorite street food stall. The stall was lively and filled with noise. People were smoking, drinking, and chatting animatedly. The place buzzed with vibrant life. The two of them ordered a table full of grilled meat and four bottles of beer. Yosef lifted his glass and took a sip. "You're supposed to be the Wilsons' daughter-in-law. Why are you eating here? Aren't you worried about your reputation?" Elaine didn't say anything. She paused with sausage kebabs in her hand and gave him a smile. Her beauty was already striking. But when she smiled, her almond-shaped eyes sparkled with a captivating light. Yosef felt a slight shiver in his heart. She then said, "There's nothing wrong with this place." What's wrong with this place? Is this the kind of spot where people like Terry, who were born with privilege and have exceptional talents, would never visit? In her previous life, she had given up so much to become the kind of Mrs. Wilson he would like. In the end, she failed utterly. To hell with this d*mn love! "I'm no longer planning to marry Terry." Elaine said slowly, finishing the sausage kebabs in her hand. Her voice was strangely serene. "Ugh ... " Yosef, on the other hand, choked on the beer he had just sipped, tears pouring down his cheeks. The beer in his glass spilled over. He was in utter shock. His heart raced faster than ever. He leaned in, gazing at Elaine with intense focus. "Elaine, what did you just say? You're not going to marry Terry? Did I misheard you?" "You heard it correctly." Elaine confirmed with a nod. "Is that true? You're not joking with me, right?" Yosef remained in disbelief. He had seen firsthand how much she admired Terry. Hearing her say she wouldn't marry Terry was as shocking as if she had claimed she could fly. "Indeed. So, does this mean we can stay friends?" Elaine asked with a smile. "Sure."Yosef nodded enthusiastically. He kept nodding. He nodded once more. A smile slowly spread across his face. He then asked with a hint of irritation, "Aren't you meant to marry him?" "Do you actually think I was serious about that?" Elaine shrugged. Yosef was lost for words. He felt like pointing out that her earlier demeanor had seemed far from a joke. But he chose not to confront her. As long as she had changed her mind, that was enough. After finishing their meals, Elaine and Yosef agreed to visit Anna at the hospital together the next day and waved each other goodbye. She went back to the underground parking garage of the six-star luxury hotel. From a distance, she spotted a man standing next to a sports car.
