When Love Is the Only Thing Left

Chapter 886 The Leader

He gazed coldly at me. “Eat your food. Hmph! You're just stingy.” With that, he went upstairs. Seeing that, I shook my head. This man is indeed weird. Soon, I continued with my food. It was already dark outside when I finished doing the dishes. Almost four hours had passed, yet Boris still hadn't called. I wondered if Ashton was alright. For some time, I waited while holding my phone. When I finally decided to give Boris a call, the latter called. As soon as I answered the phone, I asked eagerly, “Boris, have you found Ashton? How is he?” Boris hesitated for a while before he answered, “Ms. Stovall, from what we found, those who kidnapped Mr. Fuller didn't take him to another place. They killed him on the spot after asking him some questions. You should go back to the police station to have a look at the body. Perhaps that body really belongs to Mr. Fuller.” Hearing that, I felt the world around me spinning while everything seemed to be appearing double in front of my eyes. As tears trickled down my face, I could taste its saltiness in my mouth. How could this happen? How is this even possible? “Boris, that's not Ashton! There must be something wrong! They lied to you! Could you please investigate further? Ashton won't die! He won't leave me just like that!” I started recalling the body I saw in the police station. I was sure that was not Ashton. It couldn't be, as I wouldn't mistake it for my husband. Boris said helplessly, “Ms. Stovall, I know it's hard for you to accept it, but I've captured those who kidnapped Mr. Fuller that night; this is the answer I got after interrogating them. If you're still unwilling to believe it, why don't you come over and ask them yourself?” I readily agreed, “Alright. Where are you? I'll come straight away.” “There is no need. I will bring them to Mr. Taylor's. I have something that I need to ask him anyway.” With that, Boris ended the call. For a long time, I stood rooted to my spot, feeling dizzy. My mind wouldn't stop buzzing. Holden had come downstairs without me realizing it. In his bathrobe, he gazed at me while saying, “Oh, look how you're crying your heart out. Are you sure Ashton is dead? I told you the chances of him surviving are slim to none. Well, now you know I was right. It's just a piece of advice, but you'd better cooperate with the Taylor family. As you know, it's hard for a woman to govern Fuller Corporation.” The man seemed to care little about Ashton's wellbeing. Seeing his carefree manner, I felt all the more reluctant to talk to him. After all, Ashton is my husband. Of course, Holden doesn't need to worry about Ashton's safety since it has nothing to do with him. At this moment, I understood that I was on my own in finding Ashton. No matter how dangerous or difficult it would be, I knew I could only count on myself. I let out a sigh. Without bothering to talk to him, I walked toward the door and waited for Boris at the entrance. “Ms. Stovall, are you mad? Why are you going out?” Holden's voice rang out from behind. Ignoring his questions, I sat by the staircase near the entrance and waited eagerly for Boris's arrival. It wasn't long before Boris's car drove into the villa. I rushed up as Boris got out of the car. His two subordinates brought a man, dressed in black garments, out of the car. The man looked terrible with bruises all over his face; it seemed like he had gotten the third degree. When Boris saw me, he spoke up, “Ms. Stovall, he is the leader of those who kidnapped Mr. Fuller.” I glared at that man, my fists clenched. Although fury was boiling within me, I managed to suppress it. “Thank you, Boris. Take him into the house. Put the screws on him and make him talk.” Boris nodded and complied. Meanwhile, Holden was sitting lazily on the couch with his legs crossed. Seeing Boris and the man, he raised his brow while commenting, “I see you've caught the leader. It seems like the people from the Moore family are all competent and efficient. I'm truly impressed!” Boris instructed his subordinates to bring the man to Holden. Then, he asked, “Mr. Taylor, do we need to leave the two of you alone?” Hearing that, Holden let out a soft chuckle. “There is no need for you to leave. I only have one or two simple questions for him; it won't take long. I suppose Ms. Stovall would want to interrogate him later, so I'll end this real quick.” Boris simply uttered a response. After that, Holden bent over and approached the man. Narrowing his eyes, he said tauntingly, “Dude, you'd better answer every single question I ask, or you might get a beating or even lose your life. Do you understand me?” “Mr. Holden, is that a threat?” the man asked nonchalantly. There was no sign of panic or horror on his face. As a matter of fact, he seemed to look more like a guest paying the villa a visit than a captive. Holden shrugged. “Well, not really. You know what, many people go missing every year in Moranta. The police are too busy, so they won't bother to search for someone like you, who has no background. If you're found dead, they will only contact your parents or wife to collect your body. Who knows, maybe the person who kills you might drag your family into this as well.”
