Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone

Chapter 34 Pressured to Apologize

After exiting the office, the secretary promptly called home and discovered that Chloe was away for a beauty treatment. She attempted to reach Chloe on her cell phone, but there was no response. Ultimately, on her third try, Chloe answered the call. "What's going on?" Chloe asked, a hint of irritation in her voice. The secretary stated, "Mrs. Whitewood, Miss Seraphina is in trouble at school and requires your presence." "Fine, I'll handle it," Chloe replied dismissively. Noticing the call, the beautician asked with a polite smile, "Shall I speed things up, Mrs. Whitewood?" Completely unbothered, Chloe set her phone aside and replied, "Just carry on." The beautician continued her work at a leisurely pace.Back in the school office, Alina's and the others' parents were arriving after hearing their kids had been attacked. Juliette's mom, Adelyn Fletcher, came in first, her expression sinking upon seeing the bruises on her arm. "Who did this to my daughter?" Adelyn demanded, her voice tight with anger as she glared at Xavier. Juliette swiftly indicated Seraphina. "She did it—she attacked me." Adelyn charged ahead, hand raised, but Xavier interposed himself between her and Seraphina just in time. Slap! Adelyn's hand struck Xavier's face, catching everyone off guard. She looked momentarily surprised, then glared at him and accused, "You're protecting her? You're a teacher, and yet you're standing up for this girl? Is this how Bloomington School handles things?" Xavier started to respond, but Seraphina cut in coldly, "Quite the display of manners, Mrs. Thorne. Coming in and slapping people right off the bat—you'd think the Thornes were running a gang, not a business." Adelyn's eyes narrowed. "You've got a sharp tongue, don't you? Listen up—this isn't over. I raised my daughter with respect; I would never hit her, and here she's being bullied at school. You and this school owe me an explanation." "Then maybe the affluent Thorne Family ought to hire a lawyer rather than cause a scene here," Seraphina replied with a shrug. Adelyn jabbed a finger toward Seraphina, her tone fierce. "Where are your parents? They should be here to answer for you! I'd love to know what kind of lessons they're teaching you!" Unfazed, Seraphina replied, "15888..." "What?" Adelyn asked, looking as baffled as everyone in the room. Seraphina smirked. "You wanted my dad's number, right? Go ahead, give him a call yourself." "Please calm down, Mrs. Thorne. Let's wait until her parents arrive," Xavier suggested, trying to ease the tension. Eventually, the other parents showed up, but Seraphina's parents were still absent. One parent asked, "Where are her parents? Did she call them?" Despite his obvious concern over his son's injuries, Daxton's dad took note of Seraphina's expensive-looking outfit. Unlike Adelyn, he chose a calmer approach and asked, “Where are your parents?” "The lady already called my dad, so he should be here soon," Seraphina answered. Hearing this made Daxton's dad feel calmer, and the other parents appeared to reflect his ease. They believed everything would be smoothly resolved if someone took the lead. On the other hand, Adelyn kept redialing Oberon's number. Just as she was about to lose her patience, he finally answered. Once the call connected, she burst out, "Your daughter attacked mine. What are you doing about it? If this isn't resolved today, it won't end well."Unaccustomed to such an outburst, Oberon took a beat before curtailing, "Please calm down, madam. My wife is en route to address the matter." "Calm down? Every other parent is here. Why should we keep waiting for you? Don't think for a second that our time isn't valuable, too!" she snapped. "I'll be there shortly,” Oberon replied, hanging up before she could say more. He pressed his intercom and instructed, "Get the car—we're off to school." Witnessing Adelyn's heated display, a few parents intuitively backed away. The Thorne Family was known around town, primarily as newly wealthy rather than a longstanding name. Rumor had it Adelyn was raised in the countryside and didn't complete elementary school. Typically, it was her husband, Andre Thorne, who represented the family at school events and was recognized for his polite and amiable nature. Observing Adelyn in action, the other parents soon grasped the reason behind it.They thought, We're all prominent people; even when angry, we don't make a scene like this. Why act like an unleashed dog, barking at everyone in sight? Thirty minutes later, Oberon arrived at the school. The instant he stepped into the office, the waiting parents immediately shifted from frustration to polite smiles. "Mr. Whitewood, nice to see you," Daxton's dad greeted, his tone respectful as he approached. The other parents followed, greeting Oberon with friendly enthusiasm. Seraphina watched the scene unfold with a cold, knowing expression. She knew exactly where this was heading. Incidents like these were common at Bloomington School. As long as someone had a powerful family behind them, there were always ways to smooth things over. This time, she had enough backing to stand her ground. Chloe's relentless "training" led her to submit in her past life. She constantly avoided conflict and allowed others to mistreat her. Seeing the parents who had previously sided with her now greeting Oberon with warmth, Adelyn quickly realized the influence he carried. Once Oberon had exchanged polite greetings, he turned to Xavier and asked, "Mr. Donovan, I apologize for any disruption. Could you please tell me exactly what happened between my daughter and the other students?" Adelyn interrupted, "What happened? Isn't it obvious? Your daughter attacked our kids. Whatever the reason may be, we deserve an explanation from you." Only now did Oberon take a closer look at the students. He noted their minor injuries before turning to Seraphina, who appeared calm and unbothered. In a firm voice, he instructed, "Seraphina, say sorry to your classmates." Seraphina's expression darkened. "You're asking me to apologize without even knowing what they did? Even a judge looks at the evidence before making a call.""Regardless of their actions, using violence is wrong," Oberon replied, his tone hardening at her defiance. Seraphina scoffed, a bitter smile playing on her lips. "When I didn't have parents, I never let anyone walk all over me. Now that I do, you expect me just to take it?"
