Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone
The phone rang and displayed Carmen's name in flashes. "Carmen." Linara still sounded soft and kind. "Why have you lied to us?" demanded Carmen in a voice full of anger. "Carmen, what are you talking about? I don't get it," replied Linara, sounding confused. "What is Seraphina's real identity?" Carmen asked seriously. A wave of discomfort came over Linara as her heartbeat stuttered. "Did you get wind of something?" she questioned carefully The sadness in Linara's voice made Carmen unable to bear to push further despite her anger. "Go look it up on the internet yourself. I think every Pyrin citizen has heard of the issue with your family by now." Linara immediately looked up the latest news after hanging up. Twitter and the major media outlets were overflowing with news regarding the real and fake Whitewood heiresses, making her heart sink. Embarrassment overcame her, and she wished she could conceal herself from everyone's mockery and sympathy. The top-ranking Pyrin citizens were likely briefed on this already, and even her fellow students had probably heard something. Just imagining facing their judgmental looks engulfed her in humiliation and embarrassment. Why has Seraphina returned? Why has she come to get her identity and belongings? Linara was completely to blame. She deemed herself responsible for bringing the humiliation upon herself. "Seraphina!" Linara's expression twisted with hatred while muttering the name. The following day, Seraphina was told by a servant that Linara was sick and currently fighting a constant fever that completely concerned Chloe. The Whitewood doctor was treating her, while Chloe kept Linara company and would not leave her alone. Jasmine asked, "Miss, would you like to go see her?" Linara had probably seen the internet reports which brought about her condition spontaneously, compelling Seraphina to go see her close friend. "Yep, I'll head there when I finish eating," answered Seraphina. Jasmine gave an approving smile at her sincere expression. After having stayed up all night tending to Linara, Chloe went into the dining room to see Seraphina placidly having her breakfast as if nothing was wrong, infuriating her. She marched over, grabbed the bowl from Seraphina, and threw it to the ground, splashing hot porridge on Seraphina and spilling the food across the surface of the table. "Don't you have a conscience? Linara is ill, yet here you are having breakfast so uncaringly," reprimanded Chloe angrily.Conscience? A small smile appeared on Seraphina's face as her eyes flickered despondently. She had suffered through torture by Linara's pursuer in her past incarnation by being pushed into a pond and gaining a constant fever. She could clearly recall him going with Linara to the mall and her holding hands with him through the window as they disembarked from the car. Had Linara ever thought of Seraphina then? What had she been concerned about? Seraphina looked down for a moment, the scalding pain from the hot porridge on the back of her hand unable to overcome the cold ache she felt in her chest. All traces of emotion disappeared when she lifted her head to eye Chloe coolly. "Should I get sick too if she is? Should I accompany her to the grave too?" Jasmine and the rest stared at the mess and the duo confronting one another, maintaining a tense silence. "How could you behave so evilly and wish her dead? Have you always been dreaming of her dying?" Chloe became angrier and more disapproving with each word.
