Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone
Jason offered a gentle smile, his tone unusually soft. "It's quite cold out here. Let's go inside," he suggested. "Right, right, let's head in," Oberon eagerly responded, his voice full of enthusiasm. As the group moved forward, Aidan's gaze shifted from Linara, who seemed preoccupied with her thoughts, to Jason. The admiration that had once been so obvious in Aidan's eyes had faded. Evelyn led the way, guiding Seraphina toward the entrance, while Jason followed behind them, his presence solid and protective, almost as though he were acting as their personal bodyguard. Upon entering the venue, they were immediately greeted by the patriarch of the Lowell Family. After exchanging pleasantries, the younger generation of the families quickly scattered, heading off in their own directions. The adults found their own circles to mingle in, while the younger guests sought out each other's company.Dora spotted her friends and walked over to them. "You finally made it! If you hadn't come, I swear I would have been bored out of my mind." "Dora, aren't you going to introduce us?" a young woman in a light-yellow dress piped up, her voice sweet and eager. Dora turned toward the girl, her smile widening. "Of course! This is Evelyn, and this is Seraphina. They're both my close friends," she said, gesturing to the two of them. Then she turned toward Seraphina and added, "And these are my cousins and nieces." The cousins, a bit taken aback by Dora's casual introduction, exchanged glances. Yet, despite their discomfort, they refrained from saying anything, sensing the importance of Evelyn and Seraphina's presence. Meanwhile, in the corner of the room, Yvonne stood alone. Her eyes immediately found Seraphina as she entered, her attention captured by her radiant presence. Yvonne watched, feeling a pang of jealousy rise within her.Not long ago, she and Seraphina had been on equal footing, both in the same world. Yet, in the blink of an eye, one had soared to new heights, while the other had remained grounded, as if they now existed in entirely different realms. Seraphina was so lucky to have such a wealthy father. Watching the crowd surround Seraphina, laughing and flattering her, Yvonne's frustration grew. She could hardly bear the sight. Her gaze moved across the room, taking in the men present. Most were older, either middle-aged with sizable bellies or elderly gentlemen with gray hair. The few younger men who stood out were average in appearance, while a small group of handsome men were surrounded by a gaggle of beautiful women. But then Yvonne's eyes landed on Jason. Among all these people, one man stood out. His presence was undeniable, his appearance impeccable, his family background pristine. Yvonne watched him from a distance, her gaze lingering on him, growing more fixated with each passing moment. The more she looked, the more admiration bloomed within her chest. "You're wasting your time," a voice interrupted her thoughts. Molly had approached her once again, and the reason was simple: those around her disdained her lowly status and were unwilling to include her in their activities. Left with no other choice, she turned to Yvonne, seeking to regain a sense of superiority through her. "Do you even know who he is?" Molly asked, her voice dripping with disdain. "That's Jason, from the prestigious Pearlpoint Drakon Family. Do you know how many daughters of the noble families in Pyrin dream of marrying him? And yet, none of them have the status to enter the Drakon Family." Molly retracted her gaze from Jason and sized Yvonne up. "Do you really think you have what it takes to enter the Drakon Family? Even I don't dare to dream about it. All you're doing is wishful thinking."Yvonne snapped back, "So, does that mean Seraphina doesn't have the status to enter the Drakon Family either?" Molly didn't miss a beat. "Of course not," she answered quickly, her tone smug. "In terms of status, Seraphina might manage to fit in with families like the Lowell or Silverbrook families. But the Drakon Family? They're a level above those so-called aristocratic families. And above those are the Great Eight of Pearlpoint—the true elite." Molly leaned in slightly, her eyes gleaming as she spoke. "Jason belongs to that elite. He's on a whole different level." She smiled, clearly pleased with her own knowledge of the upper echelons of society.
