Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone
"Isn't that just perfect?" Seraphina replied nonchalantly. Seeing her unrepentant attitude, Oberon's temper flared. "Without business, what will you eat, drink, or wear? Do you think everything you have falls from the sky?" "Well, you'll have an answer to that after you hear what I'm about to say." Looking at her defiant confidence, Oberon couldn't help but laugh in frustration. "Go ahead then. What exactly is it you want to say?" "Are you sure you want me to discuss it here?" Seraphina glanced around the room. The living room was filled with Whitewood Family members and several servants. After a moment to compose himself, Oberon surveyed the room and said, "Let's move to the study." The two made their way upstairs, one after the other. Linara, watching from the side, furrowed her brow. She doubted that Seraphina, no matter how clever, could turn the situation around and calm Oberon's fury. … In the study, Seraphina casually walked over to the seating area and sat down, ignoring Oberon, who was nearly bursting with rage behind her. "Go ahead and sit. Standing must be tiring," Seraphina gestured dismissively. Noticing her calm demeanor, Oberon felt his anger ease slightly, though it still simmered beneath the surface. "Speak," he said, sitting down across from her. "You probably don't know where I've just come from," Seraphina said playfully, piquing his curiosity. "I was just at Heartlake Island. I've been going there often lately and have run into Jason, Evelyn's uncle, a few times." At the mention of Jason, Oberon's interest was immediately piqued."Did he tell you something? No, that can't be right. How could he possibly tell you anything?" "He didn't share much, but about half a month ago, I overheard something about our family's partnership with the Hall Family. At first, I didn't think much of it, but after observing the actions of the city government these past few weeks, I've become more convinced that what Jason mentioned might be true." "What did he say?" Oberon was now completely focused, his curiosity fully engaged. Seraphina's eyes flashed with a cold, ominous light as she spoke with concern. "The land in the western suburbs that we're developing with the Hall Family might be expropriated by the government to build a train station." "Are you sure?" Oberon's voice rose with urgency. Both families had paid a hefty price to acquire that land, with plans to develop a high-end residential area. If a train station were to be built nearby, it would result in significant losses. "I wasn't sure at first, but now I'm almost ninety percent certain. Jason hinted at this half a month ago," Seraphina said confidently. "Are you really sure?" Oberon was still reluctant to believe it but was now almost convinced. Seraphina nodded firmly. If Jason had mentioned it, the information was likely accurate. Back then, he and Jacob had taken pride in securing the land from Jason. Now, it seemed that it wasn't so much a matter of taking the land from the jaws of a tiger but rather that the tiger had never intended to bid on it in the first place. "As for my fight with Bryan, it was just a matter of seizing an opportunity. If we had withdrawn prematurely, it would've alerted the Hall Family, and getting out of the deal would've cost the Whitewood Family even more. "Coincidentally, Bryan came looking for trouble. I took the chance to beat him up, knowing full well that Jacob's fatherly love for his son would make him relentless in seeking revenge," Seraphina calmly analyzed the situation.
