The Apocalypse Wolf Queen

Chapter 26 A World With No Rules

Thora's POV: "But I didn't sense any fluctuations in your wolf power. You haven't awakened it, have you?" Ashton said. Hearing Ashton's words, Harvey also looked at me with curiosity. I met their stares calmly and gave a slight smile. "Don't forget, the Greens aren't just the Alpha family of Silverleaf Pack. We're also a family with a military background. Even if I haven't awakened my wolf spirit, I still know how to hold my ground in a fight." As soon as I said that, I clearly saw Harvey's eyes widen in shock. The usual scorn in his eyes faded, replaced by seriousness. It was obvious he was reevaluating me—their so-called "useless mixed-blood." After a moment, he thanked me sincerely. "Thanks." Ashton, always the easy-going one, grinned and said, "Thora, we've fought side by side. From now on, you're one of us!" I shot him a look. "I just helped since I happened to be passing by." I wouldn't consider people my allies that easily. I stepped in for two reasons. First, I really was just passing by. Second, we were classmates, so it felt right to back them up. "Let's go." I was about to leave when Harvey called out to me again. "Thora, can you look after Ashton for a bit? I'll go get him some medicine." I glanced at Ashton, who was slumped against the wall. He was covered in injuries, and healing on his own would take forever, but ...I frowned. "We're going to be late for class." They both fell silent, and their eyes practically shouted, "Since when do you care about being late?" "Hurry up." In the end, I didn't leave. What really interested me was the cause of this fight. Harvey and Ashton were hardly ordinary students, so whoever targeted them wasn't ordinary either. If I were going to build my own power, I'd need allies I could trust and a place where I could act freely—without the Greens' influence tying me down. Maybe these two would lead me to just what I needed ... After Harvey thanked me again, he dashed off.The alley was quiet again. But Ashton, being a chatterbox, couldn't stop himself from talking again. He stared at me and said, "Harvey's acting weird. I've never seen him try so hard to talk to someone who doesn't care ... " I frowned. What a weird way to put it ... He looked like he wanted to keep talking, so I cut him off. "If you have the energy to talk, you should use your wolf power and heal faster." "Fine." Finally, some peace and quiet. In less than 10 minutes, Harvey returned and gave Ashton first aid. Clearly, this wasn't his first time getting into a fight. "What's wrong with your right hand?" Ashton sounded worried. I followed his gaze and noticed Harvey's right hand was hanging a little weirdly, so Harvey used his left to help Ashton. "It's nothing. Probably just a dislocated bone." I walked over, tossed the medicine onto Ashton, and said, "Apply it yourself." Then I ordered Harvey, "Give me your hand." He froze for a second, then stretched out his hand. I grabbed his dislocated hand and propped his armpit with my other hand. "Relax." Harvey followed my order and loosened up his muscles. "Brace yourself." I slowly rotated his forearm. Pain flashed across Harvey's face, but he didn't make a sound. Crack! Once the joint snapped back, I let go."Try moving it." Harvey flexed his right hand, and the pain on his face turned to pure shock. "Thanks!" He thanked me again, with a strange look in his eyes. I watched as they both expertly applied the medicine and joked, "You guys are so good at this. You must be pros by now." Harvey chuckled. "You know what Astralis College is like. Everyone's from some powerful family, and no one wants to back down. Most problems can be solved with a fight—it saves a lot of trouble. Some people are just born fighters, but in college, you've got to keep a low profile and be more careful." I raised my eyebrow but didn't argue. The law of survival of the fittest applied everywhere. Even Astralis College, the empire's top academy, was no exception. Classes S through F were just the school's official rankings. But there were always rulebreakers in the shadows. Still, that wasn't what I cared about right now ... "So, you get to let loose outside the campus?" Harvey's eyes changed. He hesitated, but under my stare, he finally answered, "Last week, I fought in an underground match. I accidentally tore the tendons in my opponent's arm. He's probably crippled. That's why they came for me." I smiled. "There's more to the underground than just fight clubs, right?" "Of course. Whatever exists aboveground, you'll find it below. The difference is, there aren't as many rules." I nodded.A world with no rules just might be the perfect place for me to grow fast ...
