The Apocalypse Wolf Queen

Chapter 194 More Than Worth It

"Back then, because she was angry with me, your mother disappeared for two days. I was scared out of my mind and searched all over Starlance City. Thank goodness I finally found her safe ... " Evren's face showed deep weariness as his eyes looked into the distance, as if he were staring through the air at the past. After speaking, he fell silent and didn't say anything more. Thora also stayed quiet, thinking through the key details on her own. "Thora ... it's a good thing you found out the truth about your mother's death. If Diane had died wronged and the real killer walked free, then she would probably blame me too," Evren sighed, his voice full of regret. "It's just a pity that I couldn't take revenge for your mother with my own hands." Thora nodded. "It was what I should do." After a pause, she added, "Grandpa, I hope you won't tell Felix what I asked you today." Evren nodded. "Don't worry. I'm old enough to know what should and shouldn't be said." In his eyes, both Thora and Felix were his only blood relatives left in this world. What Thora was suspecting or investigating didn't matter. All that mattered was that Thora was Diane's daughter and his granddaughter. Thora smiled and nodded slightly. Evren gave her a few reminders to stay safe, then prepared to leave with his bodyguards. With Felix out of danger and Thora watching over him, Evren felt at ease. Before leaving, he arranged for two guards to stay and look after Felix, then turned and went on his way. Thora watched Evren's strong yet slightly unsteady back, and a faint emotion passed through her eyes. Humans did not live nearly as long as werewolves. Evren was already close to 70, which, for a human, was already old age. But in the next second, Thora pulled her feelings back under control. Life, aging, sickness, and death were things no one could escape. Rather than worrying about things that hadn't yet come, it was better to cherish the present. And she still had many things to do. She couldn't afford to slow down. ... Darius had never slept this deeply before. He had no idea when he had drifted off. The first thing he did after waking was look beside him, only to see Carl instead. "Why is it you? Where's Thora?" Sensing Darius's obvious dislike, Carl quickly composed himself and answered respectfully, "Ms. Green has already left. She should be in Mr. Green's room now."Seeing Darius frown in displeasure, Carl hurried to add, "Ms. Green was worried about your injuries and specifically told me to stay by your side and take care of you." Sure enough, Darius's eyes lit up. "She really said that?" Although Thora's exact words were not like that, the meaning was close enough. "Yes, Mr. Blackwood," Carl nodded quickly. Darius grinned from ear to ear and waved generously. "Alright, you can go rest. Later, go to my private storehouse and pick up a crate of high-grade beast cores as your bonus." Carl was overjoyed. "Thank you, Mr. Blackwood." He bowed respectfully and left, smiling from ear to ear. After Carl left, Darius slowly rolled over from his face-down position onto his back. He reached for the mirror on the bedside table, turned slightly, and carefully looked at his back. The once terrible wounds were now evenly covered in ointment, the redness and swelling greatly reduced, with a cool feeling soaking into his skin. He closed his eyes and quietly guided what little wolf power he had left, drawing his natural healing ability toward his injuries. In an instant, the wide area of burns on his back began quickly healing at a visible rate, fresh skin slowly growing in. He hadn't lied. Lorcan had indeed overexerted himself fighting that other presence and needed a long time to rest, which had greatly weakened his self-healing ability as well. Even so, healing burns like this was not difficult for him at all. He had simply chosen not to use it. After all, a little temporary pain in exchange for Thora personally applying medicine made this deal more than worth it.
