When the Galaxy Wept

Chapter 99 Fight!

To Emerald’s disappointment, she reached the open region without any sight of an airplane or any kind of spacecraft after driving through the night. The only thing she had was some other SUVs with Zergs. She put on a Zerg uniform she found in the back seat and lowered her body, using the two tentacles to block the side windows. She managed not to attract the attention of the Zergs. The road became wider. Along the hard, frozen ground, Emerald saw rows of buildings several miles away, smoke rising from some buildings that looked like factories. Several planes swooped down and landed there behind the buildings. She pulled over and lowered her head, trying to come up with a strategy. How could she get an airplane? How could she lose the ground soldiers and fly up to the sky after getting into a plane? She suddenly heard something coming from behind. Emerald shrank in her seat and grabbed the machine gun. From the rear-view mirror, she saw two ergates crawling to her from the road back. Should she shoot them? While still trying to come up with a plan, she saw docent humans following the ergates. Most of them were young men whose dirty faces were pale and blue from the cold. They followed the ergates walking in line with their hands above their heads, passing Emerald’s car silently. **** On the battlefield outside the Zerg planet, Patrick looked at the force distribution map of the galaxy. His black eyebrows were sharp, and his eyes bright and focused. Only his black stubble on his chin and the dark circles under his eyes were signs of him holding on for a long time. The directors and officers behind him were also exhausted. Some took their chance to lean back in their chairs and sleep for a few minutes, while others drank black coffee to keep themselves awake to analyze the data from the enemy’s army. They had launched three frontal attacks in 16 hours. The mercenary was under tremendous pressure, fighting with a different species. Three of the eight space fortresses were severely damaged and retreated to the home front for rest and maintenance. Half of the hundred medium-sized warships were destroyed. Although the Zerg had suffered more casualties than the mercenary, they had more and more soldiers coming in. The mercenary would have faced more pressure if the forefront hadn’t destroyed the Zergs defense fortifications to keep part of their force on the ground. “How is the Alliance?” Patrick asked. “Commander, the army of the Alliance, has landed on two invaded planets, fighting fiercely to take back their control of the ground.” Answered the communication officer. Patrick didn’t ask further, and Bruce Green added in a low voice, “The time we planned for is now.” Patrick nodded. Suddenly, a technical officer who was staring at the radar console desk turned around, “Commander, four Zerg space fortresses just struck out.” “Commander, should we leap now?” Bruce asked. “Fight.” Patrick said calmly, “keep attracting more Zerg army and win this war as soon as possible.” The fierce space battle ensued again. Nuclear bombs and missiles were blowing up in space like fireworks, enveloping the third Zerg planet in light and shadow interchangeably. Red and black fighters passed each other like two stocks of fish. After a short clash, countless debris and lives fell like dead leaves. The battle in space was completely different from the one on the ground. Though the power used in the war could destroy a galaxy, the process was silent. Many fighters were flying silently and staunchly out in the vacuous space for their own belief, which was the survival and freedom of their own species. On the ground in the first Zerg planet, it was 8 o’clock in the morning. On the west side of the labor camp was a range of short hills which looked like a crouching dragon from a distance. The Zerg citizens camp was built facing the sun, in a place that stretched to the plain area. The chaos caused by the air attack yesterday had subsided. Only a couple of humans were pushed by the ergates from the road to the labor camp. The light behind the clouds started to flash again, making Emerald feel more relieved. “Officer, what should we do now?” Emerald turned around and looked at the dozen young men she had saved this morning. Holding the weapons they had recovered from the dead Zerg soldiers, they had followed her.“Where were the planes parked?” Emerald asked. A young man answered. “When I ran away from the labor camp, I saw two planes parked in an open space in the far north, but that’s the place where the Zerg guards live.” “Are you sure they were black planes with a silver cross?” Emerald asked... “I’m sure.” The young man responded. “Under the bright searchlight of the Zergs last night, I saw them clearly. Madam, could those be mercenaries like you who got arrested by the Zerg?” Emerald nodded, “How is the guard situation in the labor camp?” Another middle-aged man answered. “There were about a hundred worms, but at least half of them went away after the attack yesterday. Only two or three Zerg planes were still in the north.” That young man said excitedly, “Madam, is the Alliance army coming to save us?” Emerald nodded and pointed to the sky,” They are in their final battle.” Everyone was happy now. When Emerald said she needed to save her comrades and rob a plane, almost everyone volunteered to go with Emerald to protect their relatives and friends in the labor camp, except for a few people who preferred to hide in the forest and wait for the rescue army. Ten people stayed with her. Although most of them hadn’t fired a gun before, all of them were happy to have the Zerg’s weapons after what they had suffered here. They killed several ergates with Emerald along the way. Emerald’s leg was still extremely painful. She injected molecular anesthetic medicine, which she had found in the first-aid box in the SUV, into her leg to be able to keep walking, though she was limping heavily. There were security cameras around the labor camp and two guards with heavy weapons by the gate. Emerald suggested they hide their guns and pretend to be the “captives” of the ergates, which made the young men hesitate. Not having a better plan, they finally went along with her plan and buried their submachine guns somewhere near the labor camp, hid their small weapons under their clothes, and intentionally bumped onto several ergates while pretending to run away, and they were successfully pushed into the labor camp. A young man gave Emerald his cotton coat to conceal her soldier identity.
