When the Galaxy Wept

Chapter 75 Daily Report

Two days later, Emerald went to a pub in the city, wearing a military uniform. She was followed by a plain-looking young man, who was a military policeman employed by Patrick Lewis. She saw Robert and Foxy sitting in front of a small table from a distance, seemingly anxious. Their expression intensified at the sight of Emerald. Emerald walked to them silently and took two shots of alcohol without saying a word. Robert couldn’t maintain his calm and said cynically to Foxy, “It’s weird that the Commander’s woman still wants to do tasks. What’s wrong with her?” Foxy gave him a hard look and said, “Just shut up. We can’t stop others from being crazy.” But this was exactly why Emerald liked these two. They would still be harsh to her, even though they knew her relationship with Patrick. She didn’t want to be treated special just because she was Patrick’s woman. Otherwise, who would she be the day Patrick didn’t want her anymore? “Alright, I’m crazy. I apologize!” Emerald looked at Foxy with a smile, “Didn’t I leave my Cheetah to you?” Robert became even angrier. Ignoring Foxy’s wink, he grunted. “Damn, how dare you bring this up?” Emerald was confused. Infuriated, Robert started talking. That day when Foxy and Emerald had managed to steal ten nuclear bombs from Harrison’s ship, they had permission to get in, and no one believed that anyone was brave enough to steal Harrison’s things. But when they found that there were nuclear bombs on the robot planet, everybody knew that they had been stolen from the ship. Although the bombs were found, at last, the officers in charge of the arsenal were still very angry. They hadn’t known the relationship between Patrick and Emerald, and since they couldn’t find Emerald, they had blamed it all on Foxy and Robert. Foxy and Robert had been unable to hold up their heads anymore in the space fortress and hadn’t gotten any money. Once, they even had been tied and beaten up in the arsenal, where someone had taken all their money, leaving them with just Cheetah. They had to come back to Freedom City in embarrassment. Emerald felt guilty hearing their story. After being silent for a while, she said honestly. “I will compensate for your losses. Robert rolled his eyes. After thinking for a second, he said straightforwardly, “I want a promotion. I want to be captain. No, I want to be a colonel!” Foxy glared at him and turned to Emerald. “I want a house.” “No way!” Emerald answered gracefully. “My relationship with the Commander is not what you think.” “Then what is it?” Foxy didn’t believe her. “The Commander could be generous enough to use ten Cheetahs for your sake.” Emerald smiled lightly, “I won’t be worth one Cheetah after he loses interest in me.” Robert and Foxy looked silently at each other. Robert forced a groan, and Foxy stared at her with her hands under her chin. “I’ll help you do tasks.” Emerald said, “But this time, I’ll split the money with you.” “Why?” Robert didn’t agree. “Are you stupid?” Foxy patted Robert’s forehead and looked at Emerald, “You need to get us another Cheetah, or we can do nothing.” Emerald smiled and thought that this was the real reason they had been willing to meet her. They had only one Cheetah and could only do simple tasks, making too little money. With two Cheetahs to change shifts, they could take up bigger tasks and earn more money.“OK, I’ll figure it out. Give me the phone.” Emerald called her comrades in the Phoenix to borrow some money and ask for help. She rented a Cheetah from another space fortress. Unfortunately, half of the Cheetahs were not used during peace times, and some were rented out to individuals due to sloppy management in some space fortresses. Foxy and Robert were stunned how Emerald could get a Cheetah so easily. Where could she get a vacant Cheetah when all the properties belonged to the mercenaries themselves? “Did he allow you to do tasks?” Foxy asked. Emerald was a really good partner, could rent a Cheetah, and could fly better than both herself and Robert. Besides, Emerald didn’t mind hard work or losing some money, and they had a pleasant cooperation with each other before. “He did.” Emerald blushed. “But I could only take tasks that can be accomplished within one day so I can go back home at night.”Robert understood and looked at her ambiguously and excitedly. “No way! I thought the Commander liked men. But now he wants to be with our wild kitten every night!” Foxy also laughed and suddenly held Emerald’s arms. “Did you just say that he would lose interest in you? You are the Commander’s first woman. Answer me quickly. Was he strong? He must be vigorous!” The military policeman sat in the corner and quietly drank a refreshment while the three were talking. When Emerald high-fived Foxy and left, he only lowered his hat, smiled, and bid his goodbye to the two. **** The next day in the afternoon, Foxy and Robert were staying in another inn, waiting for tasks from an infirmary. A team of military policemen showed up in black clothes and wearing cold smiles on their faces, telling them that someone wanted to meet them. Before Robert realized what was going on, Foxy said. “Oh, no... I already regret getting involved with Emerald.” “Stop fucking second-guessing yourself,” Robert said. “Did you dare to say no to her yesterday? The Commander allowed her to do tasks.” Foxy was even scarier than the last time when she saw the Commander, but Robert felt he was closer to the Commander now since he was Emerald’s friend. The Commander was sitting calmly, standing out from the military police who were standing behind him with murky faces. Foxy and Robert looked at each other before Foxy stepped up, saying.” Commander Patrick, Emerald came to us yesterday and told us that you allowed her to do tasks with us.” Patrick nodded. All military police left, except one who stayed right next to him. After everyone had left, the policeman stepped forward and gave Robert a big wad of money. Both Foxy and Robert didn’t dare to take the money. “I have a task for you,” Patrick said flatly. They immediately took the money with a standard salute. “Commander, please give us your order.” “Daily report.” He said naturally. “I want a daily report of Emerald Wilson.” Before Foxy and Robert understood what Patrick meant, the military policeman beside him explained with a smile, “You need to report everything that Mrs. Lewis says or does and about everyone she meets.”
